That's crazy. Years and years of driving in dust. Are you replacing it or just doing a deep clean?

My Carlinkit 5.0 box finally showed up. I reinitialized my Kenwood and plugged her in. Phone connects and I have Wireless Android Auto. Woot! Woot! I'll be driving the Tundra for work this week so we'll see how well it works.

So I decided to install my upper and lower control arms this weekend. While I'm at it, this would be a great time to install my new Bilstiens as well. It turns out I have to drop the rack to get to the rear cam bolts. While I'm at it, I may as well install new rack bushings. While the spindles are free, I may as well install new upper ball joints (bought them on sale...just in case). And a good time to install that steering shaft seal as well. Easy peasy, right?.

    4 days later...

    - Thank god the upper ball joints were still nice and tight (been watching @shifty` s trauma with the UBJs). Pain and suffering postponed for another day.
    - I knew that I would have to saw the lowers off, but nothing prepared me for just how big a pain this would be! It's easy if you have a lift (like the numerous YouTube videos), but when you're up on jack stands there's not so much room. Hours of contortion.
    - I knew Diablo blades were the best, but I did not anticipate how quickly they would wear out. 3 trips to Home Depot, and I finally returned with Diablo Carbide Blades for thick metal. I burned through 4 of these:
    https://www.homedepot.com/p/DIABLO-...hick-Metal-Cutting-3-Pack-DS0908CF3/207192133
    - I used anti-seize on the new cam bolts. Why doesn't Toyota do this at the factory?!
    - It was a great time to remove and treat rust that I otherwise would not have been able to see or reach, so that added some time.
    - Turns out that my rack is not OEM, but must have been replaced by a prior owner. Never heard of 3F before.
    3F.jpg
    - I did remember put the tires back on and drop the truck to the ground before torquing down the upper, lower, and strut bolts.
    - Quick test drive was uneventful. Didn't want to go far until I get an alignment. But the new steering shaft seal is AMAZING! Sofa King quiet!! Well worth the effort.

I wonder if I can find an alignment shop open tomorrow?

It had much to be desired for awhile but would still cool. Gonna blow ice cold now hopefully!

Just a good cleaning with a soft toothbrush and some dish soap and water, gonna foam it in the truck later on. The top layer of junk came off in a sheet almost. I did replace the thermal expansion valve on it with a Denso unit. Trucks all back together now and will try to get it recharged tomorrow if the shop is open.

Can't shakedown test to see where I land 'til I run to the LAPS for grease. I didn't realize I was at the end of my tube, can't grease the new UBJs. Ah well.

Probably get to it tomorrow. Gonna hold off on the AAL. I suspect I'll probably land within 1/2" of level.

Good job buddy. I knew the second side would be easier haha. Always is.

I drove about 30 minutes before I realized I didnt put any grease in my SPC UBJs. They're still holding up alright. Lol

Thx. After having two kids, I've got the patience of a saint in most nooks and crannies of my life. I can wait a day.

Second side only took 2ish hours, and I was definitely way more methodical. Honestly, I'm just sore af at this point. I definitely had to use muscles I'm not working out or utilizing in any regular sense. Traps, lats, erectors mostly.

Let's see who is open tomorrow. NAPA has a special, Valvoline Palladium #3 is on sale for $3.99/tube for some reason, so I bought 2 tubes for store pickup tomorrow, and beat scAmazon's price of $13 by nearly 50%. I'll be shocked if it's actually ready for pickup tomorrow

Much better than the gangsta lean to the driver side. I've had that on a few trucks before.:D
The only thing the turd gens got right imho is moving the gas tank to the passenger side.

    Soon…..

Oh this was another fun one from the drivers side I had no idea I’d be up against. I’ve never heard anyone complain about it. UCA pivot bolt smacks into the brake line cluster. This just seems like poor design to me. Apparently my lines aren’t seated correctly either. The little clip isn’t in its spot. Even if it was, the head of the bolt still hit it and made it nearly impossible to get the damn fastener out.

Yeah it's a pain. I broke that little plastic clip on John's truck. It was brittle from old age. Toyota charges out the ass for it too.

Boooooo. Surely there has to be a better way, to relocate or something. Did Toyota really make these into rollers with suspension on the assembly line before they got the brake lines installed? It makes no sense. Surprised nobody sells a relocation kit or something. Even if it’s just moved 1” toward the center of the truck it’s solve the issue.

What I can say, with the SPC arms, if you push the bushing insert outward on the headlight side, it gives you a little extra play, which gave me just enough to send it home. Once the pivot bolt was in, pushed the insert back to flush again, and done.

I didn’t. And at full droop, wheel on, there’s still slack. I’m not opposed to installing braided lines, my lines are a little dry, crusty.

It’s the damn ABS sensor and bracket that had me concerned. Not enough slack for my comfort.

Yeah, with the way Wheelers handles stuff, they’re free, but you gotta pay $58 shipping. Or $30 for 10oz worth of brake lines that would fit in a $7 flat-rate USPS Priority box but after shipping and tax it’s $81. I was so disappointed in their shipping rates when I looked mid week, I doubt I’ll ever shop with them.

Exactly! I had tor un-clip the lines and persuade them to move ~ 1/4" or so. This reminds me I have to go put them back where they were.

Some people do it every other oil change.
I believe the instructions say every 5-7k miles
