Blue Ribbon 4x4 Build Thread

No problem. You can see here on my old taillights, they arrived leaking. I had to fix them.

 

8T5 Blue Ribbon is down. 2k clear goes on tomorrow, then a little matte black to break up the color (maybe).

 

We’re in business!! 2k clear coat is down, new spray gun works fantastically. The clear I purchased lays super flat and smooth. Couple days from now I can seal them up, after they gas off completely

This is random but have you ever seen this paint? Thought it was cool being blue metallic. I might grab a can and try it out see how it looks maybe for some interior accents

I haven’t used that one. But it may look greatin the interior, seeing as it’s separated from the exterior color.
I have used this one. It would look great on the interior. Blue Ribbon looks kinda purple when applied in the interior. It’s just too dark.

My local HD doesn't carry that particular color anymore or any of the Rust-Oleum Metallics I think they have switched over to the behr metallic paints. So I think I might try it out and see how it goes. I had no clue about it being to dark on the interior. Do you think I should go even lighter?

Your choices of blue metallic are gonna be pretty limited. I would try it out. Spray a test piece and see what it looks like in different angles in the truck. Also, make sure it’s compatible with plastic, not all spray paint works well with plastic.

The paint has gassed off, the light bezels have been assembled, just doing some test fits. After making a few tails, I’ve noticed to get the best fit results, it’s best to mount the bezel to the truck. I apply some adhesive, then place the lens over the bezel and tape to the truck. That way the reveals should be as good they can get.
The lens surround is currently black. I’ll be painting it Blue Ribbon when everything is sealed up.

 

Silicone going down. I really should have used black, all I had is clear. Once dried I can paint the outside edge of the lens.

 

Taillights are assembled, ready for the second paint stage.

The scary part. I sanded the lenses with 400 grit so the paint will stick. I masked the outer edge of the light, then painted. Later, the whole lens will get clear coat.

Thanks! Couple coats of clear today, and wiring up the chase light harnesses, they’ll be done.
