GEN 3 (2022+) Wheels and Tires Photo thread

Anyone running stock SR5 TRD OR wheels (18") on 34 or 35's? As I understand from reading this thread, stock wheels come with a pretty large + offset so was wondering if there would be issues rubbing or excessive poke. I'm looking to get rid of the stock michelin and upgrade to a bigger size and don't particularly mind the black/silver Toyota stock wheels so want to keep them.

 

Lots of us are running that setup. I'm running 295/70/18 (~34") on the OEM 18s. I've ran them both bone stock and now with a 1.75" front level and 1" rear spacer.

No rubbing or issues whatsoever with either setup. The high positive offset keeps the wheel/tire inside of the fender. An offset closer to 0 is when you start to see poke.

These are for the Airstream! The Goodyears are 5 years old now so time for some new tires.

 

Hi all long time lurker finally made an account and joined. I’ve upgraded to 35x12.5x17 tores and 17x8.5 0 offset wheels. My question for those others with upgraded tires is has anyone stuffed a 35x12.5x18 or 17 in the factory spare location?? Seems it’s very hit or miss. If you do have them could you post a pic of how they sit to see how low they stick down? Don’t want to get caught 1000s of miles from home without a matching spare to get me back. I understand 295/70/18s fit but was trying to go for an exact match.

 

Nope have to get a BMC for sure along with some trimming. Not particularly difficult to fit but does require some more modification

I’ve got a 35x12.5x20 Toyo MT on a stock tundra wheel in my spare location. I cut the rear centering mounts off so it centered up better

Dexter, I must have totally missed it if you posted it up. But you were able to mount the 12.5 on the stock spare rim? I’m totally jumping on this if ao.

 

I asked discount tire if they would mount a 35x12.5 on the spare and they said no. The company wouldn’t allow it. I’m sure some private shops would do it though

 

Many people are doing a 295/70/18 as a spare. Discount is willing to mount it up as the width of the factory rim falls within the specs of a 295 tire.

The height difference from a 35x12.5 vs the 295/70/18 is negligible. Basically, the difference from a worn tire to a new one. There is a video floating around YouTube of a 3rd gen tundra guy doing exactly this and he shows the height difference. Very helpful video.

 

Would you, in case of a rear tire flat, still need to run the 34" spare in the front to avoid any issues with the vehicle or will the negligible size difference make it work even in rear wheel drive applications?

Looking for some advice. I have the 3"TRD lift. I'm looking to go to a 17"or18" rim. (Leaning towards RRW or Methods).I don't want crazy poke, I prefer slightly more than flush. I'm not sure what tires to go with. I want as close to stock weight as I can, and don't want to absolutely ruin my fuel economy. (i'm having a hard time breaking 12.3mpg now)

What are your thoughts??

 

Unfortunately as soon as you get to about a 34" tire in the commonly preferred brands (Falken, Toyo, Cooper AT3, BFG KO2 etc.) you will also get into a much heavier LT/E rated tire.
I love the Cooper AT3 XLT which is heavy, but the AT3 4S is the exact same tread pattern but lighter side wall that comes in bigger sizes before going to LT/E only.
My wheels are 20" so I can't give you the exact sizes in 17" or 18", but check out the AT3 S4 Coopers.

 

Personally, I think it's a negligible difference and would simply place it where the flat was. The overall difference is much less than a new vs worn mud tire. Those suckers can lose an inch in overall height, were only talking roughly 1/4" in height.

An even better option is the 285/75/18. Little more narrow which will fit better under the truck and measures out almost identical to most 35x12.5 options.

 

I put it on a stock TRD off-road wheel I bought off a member here that had been scratched up, so wider than the stock spare dinner plate

 

So I finally selected a size and got the new tires fitted this afternoon. I ended up keeping the stock Off Road 18" wheels and chose a 305x70 R18 (34.8) tire size. Wanted to keep tire weight under 70 lbs so went with E rated Micky Thomson Baja Legend EXP's (66 lbs).

No noticeable rub either on the mud flaps or front liner in the front by the bumper. I don't think I'll need to remove flaps or trim the liner. I backed into multiple tight parking spots and took a couple of u turns to test out the tires at full lock and couldn't hear or feel any rub. They sit extremely close to the UCA's given the wheel offset especially at lock but I don't feel any discernible resistance at full lock (either side) nor hear anything. Is there a better way to test this? I don't think I've ever had rigs where the tires sit so close to the UCA's and I am a bit worried about this. The vehicle is not lifted but I do plan on getting a 1.5-2" lift with Toyota TRD UCA's. if there was rub on the UCA's would it be really noticeable like increased resistance when at lock or do I have to pay attention to this over time to see if there is discoloration on the UCA's?

 

I got some 1” Spider tracks spacers that would complement your setup. Get you further away from the UCA, but you’d have a small rub on the front mud flaps.

 

Thanks! I will definitely consider spacers but want to first determine whether this is a problem. I didn't have a passenger with me who could have hopped onto the drivers seat and moved the vehicle on full lock so I didn't have a great way to tell whether there was any contact. I certainly didn't feel or hear anything so am thinking that they clear since some significant contact at lock would have been felt and heard while making the turn. I would much rather let this be as is and deal with the spacer issue when I install the lift.

 

Just curious… what size tire do you have in these pics? Also, is this with the 3” TRD lift?

Drove around some more including roundabouts, more u turns, and backing into parking lot. I do not feel any vibration, tire on metal contact or any different sound coming from the tires than normal. There's about a finger width between the edge of my tire and the closest point on the UCA. I'll continue to monitor it. Would welcome some advise on what else I can do to test out the clearance under various conditions.

 

I'm doing an overland cross country trip around April, so put a lot of thought into tire choice and size. Will be camping remotely at times, so wanted a durable tire with solid traction. I know 18's wheels are better, but I have the 20" TRD wheels and I'm cheap, plus I like the look and am not a fan of altering offset and scrub radius with aftermarket. I chose Yokohama Geolander M/T in 275/65/20. Basically a 34" tire, 1/2" wider. I considered roll resistance and want to keep good mileage. Don't care about 4% error on speedo, Escort radar detector displays gps speed anyway. I'll just add 4% to trip comp mpg. Also should raise top speed 5mph. Already ran an F150 with my stock tires up a grade in AZ and got him by a couple mph. F you Ford LOL

 

it is a 285 65r20, Yes with the TRD3" lift from the dealer.

 

Can I see some pics of some trucks with aggressive offset 17 like some -10 or more trying to order wheels soon want some poke about 2” or so. Also would like to know what trimming you had to do. I’m going with a 3” lift with 17x9 and 35 but not sure if I want to do 35x12.5 or 35x10.5. So far I’m looking at -10,-12,-38 offset wheels

 

Should be able to find a white TRD pro with 17" TE37 with -10 few pages back
