2011 Transmission

So I run a 2011 Tundra TRD Rock Warrior package. I have the typical Tundra tranny slip. My question is........what is it going to cost me to have a tranny guy drop the tranny and fix the problem?

 

Dude, do a Google search. Many, many, many people have the slipping tundra transmission before it warms up.

 

How many miles on your transmission? A fluid and filter change can fix or improve the issue.

 

I read they are closed systems. Have to take tranny out to access fluids and filter.

 

Not really , they don’t have a dipstick to check fluid level. What they usually do is remove the transmission fluid oil pan to replace filter and change the fluid.

My truck is currently in the shop after having the transmission drained and refilled a couple weeks ago and a new filter installed. It was a little overdue for service, but I wasn’t experiencing any weird behavior. After getting it back, I noticed the truck would roll backwards on inclines before accelerating from a stop where it had never done that before. And shifting from 1st to 2nd was noticeably delayed from what I’m used to, and the engine would stay revved up for much longer than it used to. I took it back in and the shop says everything looks normal, except the fluid was foamy when they checked it. Today they’re supposed to put a Toyota transmission filter on it to see if that fixes that issue. Idk what they put on it initially. But I’m worried I may have created problems where there were none before!

 

You can pull the Allen key out of the transmission pan and check your fluid in the garage.

 

Little more to it than that.

The trans must be in a specific temperature range in order to use the leveling procedure (overflow from the hex plug). This temperature is NOT operating temp.

A quick search of the process will yield a few acceptable methods of performing this level check.

Transmissions are expensive. I do not recommend anyone unfamiliar with the process mess with it. That would be a good means of achieving an incorrect ATF level which will cause shifting problems just like the person a few posts back seemed to experience.

Many do not recommend pulling the pan and messing with the filter unless it's a last resort. Drain and fills with the correct leveling procedure has a well proven track record.

 

Then again you can check it in the garage just follow the procedure for the fluid level checking. I have mine serviced every 100000

The Tundra 6sp Aisin transmission doesn't have a slippage problem, unless it's been abused or neglected ....... dude.

 

Not arguing the check/service can't be done at home in one's garage. That's where I do mine... But I've educated myself on the correct procedure.

Just didn't want anyone reading the post and unscrewing the overflow to "check" their fluid level, only to lose fluid out of a transmission which was already at the correct level.

Simply attempting to limit confusion on a process which is not very straightforward.

 

If the fluid was foamy, perhaps it had low level?

 

Guess I should respond at this point. Since the shop put in the Toyota ATF filter, my truck has run like new and now has over 160k on it. The last 45k or so have all been on 37s.

I have been thinking it is about time to do another drain and fill, specifically ordering a new Toyota filter rather than whatever budget option the shop would normally put on.
