Backup camera, camper shell, double din stereo, amp, sub, blind spot cameras, modest lift, newer Tacoma rims, large AT tires, interior lighting upgrades, in bed, under hood, as well as leds in cab, blue foot well strips (night driving)or bright white strips if need to see, 3 additional white leds on ceiling front L/ R and center, toggle switch's and added accessory fuse box.
Been trying to find someone around New Orleans to change out my timing belt, water pump, cams, tensioner ECT, on 2004 tundra 5.7 V8 DC with 250K. Seems no one wants to tackle this, I keep getting asked why do I want it done? What issues am I having? The only issue is finding someone to do, 250 k on a well maintained truck with an interference engine. That hasn't had this major maintenance done in 100k. Been looking at kits to order and tackle it myself. Kits seem to range from $100-$400 everything included. Am thinking GATES OR AISIN, any recommendations? Any special tools worth picking up? Guess I'll figure that out myself regardless.

Howdy and welcome, be sure to read this thread's section on timing belts. Aisin kit will be great, general consensus is not to buy those on Amazoon or Eabay because of the risk of fakes. Search online for "Toyota specialist" mechanics/shops, you'll find one. This one's in Jefferson, for example. THEY will definitely be aware of timing belt replacement schedule and necessity; I would avoid any shop that doesn't immediately know that the TB/water pump etc. is a standard maintenance, mileage-/year-based replacement item. You can definitely also DIY if you have the tools and time, lots of threads on here to prepare you and, once you're knuckle deep in it, lots of folks who will give you advice.

    I think you meant 4.7 V8 :D

ONLY use Aisin parts for this job. DO NOT buy your parts off scAmazon or fleaBay, counterfeit/gray market/white box kits are a reality out there and this is not a part you want to risk getting anything less than QC'd original Aisin parts.

This is the kit you're gonna want, specifically. Your local stores likely won't carry it. RockAuto is a clean parts source, no issue of subpar or fake products. I can get you a 5% off coupon if you want it?

RockAuto often is similar to or beats other sources on pricing. If not, I'll typically run the part number with Summit Racing (link to kit over there) to see if they can beat it. They often have coupons floating around online also. Looks like Summit Racing has it $3 cheaper before any coupons. There's some seller on scAmazon $10 cheaper, but ... again, is $10 savings really worth something that'll likely cost you thousands to replace?

The thread link Jason gave you does have links to install videos. Word of advice: Bag/box and label bolts as you remove them. At least once every couple of months someone on here is, like, "Just did my TB and WP ... what the feck is this spare bolt?!"

Definitely doable. AISIN all the way. Watch the you tube vids.

PS - there has to be decent independent garage that knows Toyotas in NOLA

    Here you go: https://www.tundras.com/threads/1st-gen-lunch-table-general-discussion.60450/page-1631#post-3259936

    Expires 8/18

To use the coupon, copy/paste the code into the 'How'd you hear about us?' box at checkout. I know it sounds weird, but that's what they tell you to do. I don't think the discount actually shows up in your order, they apply it after.

@assassin10000 they don't seem to update the damn codes in their vendor forum. Lots of members have been complaining about it recently. I see @texasrho83 added a code expiring in a couple days, I added mine there also.

I'm gonna state it again as I usually do, you can always find a code by googling "rockauto 5 percent". Been doing it that way for years.

Honestly, just bookmark RMN and save the extra step. https://www.retailmenot.com/view/rockauto.com

There's always at least 2-3 active codes there.

Rockauto has a cheaper price than Amazon. Just picked up a timing kit water pump fir a 4.0 1UZ and was $40 cheaper than Amazon

Dumb question, but if it comes down to getting work like this done at a toyota dealership vs an independant shop that “specializes” in toyotas, where do yall feel safer putting the money in the bank. of course theres outliers in both directions, but just curious.

I'm always choosing the small independent Toyo specialty mech. The reality is, the guy at the specialty shop is going to give more shits than the (most likely) younger, potentially less-experienced tech that's trying to meet quota, and he's undoubtedly going to charge you less. He has more on the line than the dealership too, the dealership can call out the tech as the problem or throw them under the bus in an effort to save its reputation, and own up to nothing. The technician at the dealership will likely be dealing with a higher volume of newer vehicles and may have less experience with the older, whereas your private shop is where folks with older vehicles will end up going, and probably have more experience with those.

As long as it's truly a shop specializing in Toyota, I'm going there over the stealership. But I'd still check their work, specifically on timing belts, to ensure the crank position harness actually got tucked away properly!

I live in Baton Rouge, we could do it at the shop I work at, but you'd have to leave the truck with us for awhile, we stay pretty backed up

I got a quote last week from Toyota Dealership and a local Indy shop the specializes in foreign autos (Lexus/Toyota, BMW, VW, Audi, Mercedes). Indy shop charges $115 an hour for Lexus/Toyota work. Indy shop was about 1/2 what Toyota quoted for same work. Indy shop was $1,434.52 total labor, parts, and tax for Aisin Timing Belt/Water pump kit, Fel-Pro Valve cover gasket set, and serpentine belt install. Dropping it off on Wednesday.

Yes 4.7 not 5.7 fat fingers. Going to tackle this myself. Ended up adding a ton of other work/maintenance/upgrades.
