Mine's pretty much the same...I can't afford and won't pay someone several thousand to do what I could for a tenth as much when I'd be more conscientious about it, because it's MY house, and I'll still have the tools when I finish!

Once I get another mailbox (I need to redo the post/setup and get another mailbox), I'll prob do that then. At least something at our address will have some protection then

OK it's not a horse barn but small victory.
Been having problem with a breaker tripping often, had a large storm blow in the other day and it tripped again. This time it wouldn't reset.
GFI but it's also really sensitive arc type..don't know the electrical term. I thought the breaker had gone bad. Called my electrician to come replace it, I'm in the list. ok.
    upload_2023-8-8_15-2-22.png
I got everything unplugged from that circuit which runs outlets to 4 different rooms, just a few in each. Really old house so who knows how it's routed. With everything unplugged I thought try the breaker again. Sure nuff, it reset.

I started plugging things back in and noticed a three way lamp with a REALLY old plug on it. Wire looked ok but the plug just looked old. So I replaced the plug and found this.

    AIL4fc-v7EehXkm8agxmtaJLAwZUZT2keeU4qmuA_f25dfc55a469363cfd2395fccf3815c9b382b2fa.jpg

Can you see the melted bit on the prong? Looks like it's arced more than once. Lamp works fine now.

And here I was cursing the breaker for doing it's job!

I'm glad you found the cause! We got lucky with this old house because it was rewired in the 1990's. They used 12 gauge wiring throughout.

Same, all new wire, been inspected a couple of times, twice before we signed, but the routing of the circuits is nuts. Most of the labels on the breaker panel is "Various Outlets". I got 3 outlets in my office and they are all on different, not dedicated mind you, circuits.

That sucks. Ours was all mislabeled too but the circuits at least kinda make sense.

If you are removing wallpaper, I used https://www.simplestrip.com/ . It was just called wallwik before and it was a significantly easier process than steaming and hardly any mess. You soak the wall in the solution then the fabric clings to the wall. We did almost our entire house using this. I did our dining room in an hour. If the paper separates from the backing you just use the sheets again.

It’s short so not sure I can…but our old house had none at all so I’m happy to have ANY cover for the truck/4Runner :)

Besides the entire basement is unfinished and the upstairs needs painting. :p

Well, not so much an improvement today, but we just bought 2.5 acres to build our dream home. It’s been a 10 year journey to this point with many offers and let downs. We are beyond excited.

That shit drives me nuts! And in fact the original owners did that with a lot of the trim.
    :annoyed:

I’m very much in the camp that believes you let wood show. Having wood doors and trim and then painting it drives me up a wall.

Couldn't agree more. Wifey and I are going to end up spending an ungodly amount of money basically undoing everything the previous owner did (painted everything white) right before he sold the house to us.
