    This happened yesterday.

    IMG_5836.jpg

I think the new valve stem got sheared off by a rock, since it stuck out, let all the air out, then popped the bead.

Went to a tire shop to get a new valve stem and pop the bead back on but found out that the wheel broke at the valve stem opening. Apparently the valve stem cracked off a couple pieces of the wheel and the shop couldn’t put a valve stem on. There goes the rest of this trip.

I would have thought you'd have 2 full size same wheel spares?
Shoot, I have that as my "plan" and I'm not nearly as aggressive. At the very least, for sure one spare exactly matched to the other corners, yeah? Did you already burn through one wheel?
To me, when out and about, 6 is the right number of wheels.

Driving home on my one full size spare. I can hear @Sunnier now telling me I need 2 spares. I’m a believer now.

As was explained to me: one spare gets you home; 2 spares lets you continue the trip. All the hassles to get trucks ready, time off work, trail buddies committed--> totally justifies running 2 spares.

FYI, I'm throwing money at gears and a rear locker this week, so I won't leave you hanging at Mottino Wash. This peer pressure works both ways.

Damn. We just added the Colby emergency valve stems to our gear for shit like this. Well for valve stems not the wheel issue.

Glob some silicone on the valve stem and seat it. She'll hold.

And those are off my list…i was worried about those for a few reasons, primarily getting trolled by none other than @TRDFerguson …I barely accept the OEM TPMS units but I can attest to the frail nature of those…not as catastrophic of a failure but annoying nonetheless…

Is that spare staying up there with just the front runner spare tire mount and no other additional straps? If so, that’s pretty impressive

Yup, it is. Although I’m getting rid of the rack altogether in order to fit 2 spares standing upright.

Feeling a little naked. I figure with the rack and water tank swapped out for a 2nd spare I’ll actually be net lighter.

More changes. Got 1 of the 2 storage bins installed that I picked up from @Djayyykiddoh

Chopped the end off so that I can keep my bed stiffener.

Kiiiiinda having regrets. Gonna give it another chance. But if I snag another valve then I’m putting these up for sale. I realize now that my fake beadlocks did a very good job protecting the valve stem.

I deleted my tpms system and added really short standard rubber valve stems so they wouldn’t get snapped off if they got hit by a rock or tree.
