AC Issues

And THIS is why I just ordered one. I have the same issue as everyone else. It's humid as heck here in NE Florida, and I have been shocked at how the truck won't cool as well as any of the other vehicles I've owned in the last few years, even with the newer refrigerant.

 

I too adjusted my ac -2°C and ambient air -2°C using Carista app obd2 and all is well. I keep mine at 73° F now and it's very comfortable.

 

I traded the 22 Tundra Plat. for a 23 Ford f150 Platinum a couple months ago, best AC I've ever had in a vehicle. The Tundra was never off of Low or heat would blow. I often find myself a little cold with it set on 68 now! Best trade I've ever made.

Ironically, I got a Camry loaner while my truck was in for service and I had this thing set to 72 degrees, and was still getting cold!
That thing has a commercial fridge somewhere under the hood.

I should trade for Camry...

 

For anyone doing this in Techstream, here're the customizable options in TS, under "Air Conditioning."
I changed 2 things:
-adjusted temp as all of you, by -2 degrees
-turned OFF the automatic "blow up" function when turning front defrost ON
(always pissed me off that the fan goes full speed once you press that button; now it won't!)

 

So, does this do anything except spoof the system to make the temp is 2 degrees different, so that now when you set it at 70 it would be like having to set it to 68 before the change? If that's all it does, I don't see the point in doing it. Easy enough to bump it to whatever number you need to be comfortable. I don't care if that is 68, 70, or 62. Or does this also the blower operation somehow?

 

I believe that's all it does, fooling it (and you) to think things must get colder than they really should.
That AC compressor won't work any harder than it can, due to this change.
It's a mind game, for those who keep their setting on "low" and now feel it's as cold as it should be. LoL

 

Lo is the only setting that really makes a difference. It even changes the blower output. It's too bad that Toyota doesn't have a MAX button like everyone else and we have to scroll through all the settings to get there. This is similar to aspects of the infotainment system that just aren't user friendly.

 

It seems that Toyota really made an effort to move some things forward with this gen, and some backwards.
Thanks for making me press that stupid temp up|down button 100 times now to go from "low" to "high" Toyota engineering team...that old fashioned round dial was really too hard for all of us to use!

Thank you very much for sharing this. The whistling air noise actually makes the white noise start to sound like static. Drives me crazy.

Anyone know if the snap on Zeus has the ability to adjust the temp setting everyone is talking about ? I find it odd it takes my truck 20 minutes to cool down the cabin . If all it takes is adjusting that ain’t bad

 

That's funny you mention that. I actually did keep it on LO constantly both before, and after the -2 degree adjustment was made, but it gets colder faster now that it's been adjusted. I don't really have any logical explanation as to why.

 

Placebo effect.

 

The Tundra AC is way better than my 2nd gen Tacoma but neither will freeze your balls off in the middle of the summer but it will be cool enough at least with the Tundra.

 

My (‘23’s) AC isn’t great on ECO drive mode, but once put into normal or sport, the AC works like a charm.
I’m assuming you’ve tried in various drive modes?

 

I'm never in Eco mode. 99% in normal. Mine works well, but setting it to 68 to keep it cool isn't anything like any other vehicle I've ever had.

My last two GM trucks were always set to either 73 or 74 and maintained the temp quite well. I've got the Carista ordered and will report after I get the setting swapped, but honestly, I know there's a huge difference. Human bodies can detect a 1 degree difference in temperature (I can always tell when the wife sneaks the house thermostat to 75 from 74), and the difference between my Tundra and any other vehicles I've owned (or my wife's last 3 vehicles) is huge.

 

The adjustment is 2°C or 3.6°F
