Are leaf bushings/ mounting points/ bushings greasable?

I'm trying to chase down a mild clunk when backing out of drive approach and on some bumps in the road. Sounds like it is almost like a loose bed bolt. I've checked that , as far as I know the leaf springs are original. Are they greasable? Any common areas back there anyone can think of for this sort of noise?

 

Metal on metal sound? Check body mounts.

 

No, not really. But its worth checking all the bolts you can find.

Are you sure its bump related? A drive shaft clunk is pretty common in the rear if you haven't greased the slip yoke.

 

I've grease it within the last 3000 miles, popped the zero and everything.jumped on bumper etc. It's fairly new sound.ill check bolts to be sure as it does sound like something is loose. Seems to be less noticeable when I air up the bags a little which is why my mind went to leafs

 

Are your shims/isolators still intact on the leafs?

Yup, that stuff is still intact from a quick visual inspection. Just tightened the bed bolts, not much turning to be had. Gonna remove tailgate next see if maybe something to do with that?

 

Note sure. You have a cat guard? Are you running extended swaybar links?

If you're dicking w/tailgate, good time to grease up your damn latches etc.

 

Cat guard hasn't been on for quite a while because it was making a noise and just never got around to figuring out how to make it stop. I don't have extended sway bar links, think I read that they are for up to like 3" of lift aftermarket and I haven't found any for my set up but I haven't looked much recently. Are you thinking maybe my links are worn and could be the culprit and it may just sound like it's coming from the bed area?
I suppose I could just disconnect them and see if it goes away...

 

It could be your u bolts holding the leafs to the axle . My dad had a clunking noise when he would hit a bump in his tundra .Turns out one of the u bolts managed to get loose.

 

Any new wiring in the back? I added a trailer harness and had extra wire which would bump into the side of the bed and make a clunk on bumps. I also had one of the tailgate hinges break and the tailgate bumped around some. Also check the brackets for the airbags. I had one bolt snap when I first got the truck and couldn't tell anything was wrong until I checked the inside bolt and it caused a noise.
Another thing I did was spray the leafs with fluid film. Got them nice and lubed and helped some.

 

May not be your issue.....but yesterday I was adding trailer wiring, and I discovered half a dozen large rocks trapped in my rear bumper between the heavy internal tow frame, and the chrome outer bumper.

 

The sound literally sounds like the damn bed is loose. Which it's not, gonna go through this list of checks tonight. Who knows off the top of their head which cab mounts work for our trucks? I saw a post somewhere or video for I think a tacoma kit ? Thanks yall.

Nothing super new but a good idea to check for something like this (wiring) I've only got the splice back there where the rear camera got tied in but maybe my zip tie job shifted loose. As far as the airbag bolt, are you talking the cradle it sits in? the bolt to that which holds it to the truck snapped? I'll get a picture of mine. I don't know what sort of cradles I have.
Got plenty of surface shield to spray the leafs with, will give it a shot.

I'll check, probably not an issue she doesn't get of pavement much but I suppose anything is possible. Thanks for the input.

 

Yep and yep. Quick test to make. And I'd argue, we've had confirmations from users that, after measuring on slightly more than a 2" lift, the swaybar links became a limiting source.

Not trying to send you on a wild goose chase or anything, but given the ease, seems like something to check.

 

Sooo do you have a link in your brain for extendos for a larger than 3"? Or do you just search way mo betta than the rest of us?

 

This is what I've got and what many others here are using. Price point actually isn't that bad. They also make a stock-length unit, the part number is exactly the same, just change the '7' to a '6'.

I chased a clunk for the longest when going over bumps in a corner and the sway bar end links are what fixed it…I have a 2” level on my setup…for now..I did get the extended ones because I plan on replacing the leveling spacers in the near future (have been planning that for like 2 years now lol)

 

I got all my suspension stuff around black friday 8 months ago, still haven't installed. Got the links lightly used from a kind member who didn't need them anymore. Hoping to get them installed when the rest of the family heads out of town this month.

 

I know you said the leaf-spring shims are still in good shape. If you are sure that is true, then before you spend more time chasing this problem, sepatate the leafs so you can get a needle-tipped grease gun in there and grease them up. I spent a bunch of time and money chasing this problem, and in the end it was simply a matter of replaces the worn out shims with new (very cheap) shims from Amazon, then greasing them up.
