F4578DD2-019D-48EB-B608-EC4D4E870777.jpg Just finished a 14 day trip from Maryland, All over Florida and Myrtle Beach SC. Total I drove 2353 miles in the tundra. Worst tank was 14.72 best was 16.1 in Florida flatlands. Very happy with these aggressive coopers, cruise set at 83 most of the way, some stop and go, some 90-100 speeds. The wife wasn’t sure about the cash I spent to buy this truck last august but she’s sold on it now. Looking forward to many more road trips in it. Ran 156 gallons of gas through it in the last 2 weeks, The truck performed flawlessly.

Good to hear. I've had my '06 about a month now and haven't put 1k miles on yet, still wondering about what the average mpgs will be.

The only other trip of any real distance was 200 some miles to PA and back, It had the stock t4r street tire on it then. It got 17.8 on that trip. I knew these coopers were going to bring that down. Plus the truck was loaded with all the beach gear and luggage for the 2 week trip. It’s amazing how much stuff a 15 year old girl needs for vacation lol.

I did Cali to Arkansas 4 times in mine. A little over 2300 miles each way. That was over 15 years ago. I’d do it again today in the 2000 if I needed to, no reservations.

All it took was a road trip and now she knows why you picked a Tundra. I had the same experience. My buddy and I took his 2002 AC to Georgia for a work seminar and I was sold. I found me one as soon as I got back

She knew why I wanted one, She was just worried about the money for something that old. She was ok with buying a new one but I didn’t need that. We have 4 vehicles and just her and I right now as drivers. I have a company vehicle that I drive the most, Our 15 year old will be driving the Corolla in the next year or so. We couldn’t fit all the gear in her Acura so I took the truck. Last summer I had sold our 4Runner and not bought her car or my truck yet so we rented an infinity qx80 for that same trip.

Hard to believe the first gen is nearly 20 years old now. I drive mine everywhere, cross country, across town. Every single part on the truck is still available at auto part stores, so you know there are still thousands of them on the road.

Very cool. You stay in hotels? I hear paw caps help on road trips, much cheaper than a hotel.

I took my first long road trip in my 2006 last October. Memphis TN to Cheyenne WY. Had a great time and my truck served me well. I have next road trip lined up for this coming October.

I just like road trips. I try my best to avoid driving in/near metropolitan area to avoid traffic. I like to stick to highways driving through the sticks. I makes the trip take longer but for me, the time on the road IS the vacation.

Well your states are a lot bigger. You have a lot to see in AZ alone.

Hopefully we can get a trip to Utah planned. I'm slowly gathering data and trying to plan something out. It's hard planning a trip like this to a state I've never been to but YouTube is helping.

My brother lives just north of Slc. Being a huge car guy I couldn’t wait to see the salt flats. That was extremely disappointing, unless they’re racing I wouldn’t bother with that. Next time I’m in Utah I hope to get to Moab. We’ve traveled north a few times to Yellowstone and the grand Tetons from his place, definitely recommend those.

No more Antique tags for old cars here. Only reeeeaaaaallly old show cars.

"Eligibility: For historical or special interest vehicles or any vehicle that is forty five (45) years old or older, which is essentially unaltered from the original manufacturers specifications."

There's also language about how much the car can be driven. Think it's less than 2000 miles per year.

Ooof. That's probably a killer for most people, and probably kills about 95%+ of who'd normally be eligible. I'm assuming they did this to avoid people taking the original chassis of a vintage frame and slapping a body kit on it, or taking a modern frame and bolting a classic body onto it, but ... Ooof, man.

Just got back from a 5500 mile road trip through Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana then back to CA. Truck ran great the entire time! Not a single issue came up. I have a camper shell and slept in the back with my wife the entire trip, saved quite a bit of money. Only big expense was gas, but I averaged 16.5 mpg on the trip so am satisfied.

Awesome, and welcome back. I seem to remember you may've had a concern or two as you were preparing to roll out for the trip? Or am I confusing you w/someone else?

I think you may be confusing me with someone else, as I haven't been a very active poster here in a while. I do have the annoying front diff leak from the passenger side oil seal, that I have done 2 times now and it still leaks. I replaced the seal for the 2nd time right before my trip but noticed a few drops on the 2nd day haha. Luckily the leak is slow enough that I still felt comfortable using 4WD on my trip but want to get it fixed sooner rather than later. I'd hate to run my front diff while dry.

Probably, knowing me. I think it was someone planning on road-tripping soon, and were worried about their radiator.
