I think this is where the disagreement on the reliability argument hinges. You are (nearly?) a singular sample size. There are So. Many. high mileage 2nd gens with no issues.

I’m glad people are out there piling the miles on their 3rd gens. The more problem free miles y’all aggregate, the better people who place a high premium on reliability are going to feel about joining you when the time comes.

Without using rude analogies that will ruffle feathers I will just say The Gen 3's looks completely transform from polarizing to pretty much universally sexy and beefy with a decent lift. There is a bigger contrast than other makes in my opinion and it has something to do with the shape of the headlights. If I were to ever buy one I'd need a small lift and big tires to be completely satisfied looking at it, it could not be left stock. The Ram front end is not quite to that level of "meh" but to a certain degree I feel a same way about it.

When things in the front end get this slanted and angular and horizontally stretched out design language some designers gravitate to in pickups it starts to take away from things. Cool on a Highlander or Chevy Traverse but will always get mixed reviews in pickups.

I bought a Ford and stay a member here and do not get offended when people suggest I may need a tow truck at any given time. I have come up in communities and groups where people get along and love eachother but have Thick skin, can handle some blunt honesty and good natured ribbing without going off the deep end.

I waited 6 months to get my Tundra Capstone. I left the Ford community because I fell in love with the looks of the 3rd Gen Tundra. I absolutely love this truck, looks, room inside and I'm a big guy...at least the scale tells me I am at 375lbs and 6'1". I've never felt like I was in a compact car. Best truck I've owned hands down. I'm honestly baffled that people think these things are ugly. I think pre-3rd gen are the ugly ones. One mans junk is another mans treasure I guess???

You hit the nail on the head Sir. I've owned Toyotas for years but when life dictated I step up to a half-ton I couldn't stomach the looks of the 3rd Gen Tundra. I considered a 2021 but didn't want to drive a new, 15 year old truck, plus I never much cared for the look of the 2nd gen either.

I'm glad you are happy worth your truck. There is no perfect one for everyone. I saved quite bit going with a 2021. Carmax offered about 5k more for an old daily CRV I was driving until I could find a new truck, and the 2021 SR5 they had had upgraded 20 inch limited wheels, power seat, large fuel tank, and color matching back bumper, so it looks good enough, so think I saved at least 15k by doing the deal and finally back in a nice truck. Had I waited I think I would have lost 5k on the trade in. But there is always something, as it turns out the cats had been stolen and replaced with aftermarket. They are a working just fine, not any issues, so hopefully hold up at least 5 years. I also have appointment with Carmax service center to see what options I have. I could return it for full refund but think I'll keep it. Right now I'd rather save the 15k up front and take my chances on exhaust repair later on. Truck has 31k miles, all the maintenance records done at the dealership, new tires, balanced, aligned, fully inspected.

There are a few colors and trims that really look good one both the 2.5 gen and 3rd gen.

A few people are also jealous because I got a newer truck. I was driving a CRV for 3 months until I could find another truck. I think they just enjoyed thinking I was broke or something. What a rat race. I work hard and have a budget for my transportation. Some of these people enen tell me I don't even need a truck or ask what I"m gong to do with it. Gasp, is also 2 wheel drive.

I renovate properties and rent them out, and also do all the maintenance and repairs that sometimes includes renting equipment to tow. I just also use it as a daily driver so some to the people I see I'm just hauling toys.

A lot of people just jealous you have a newer truck! Just be happy and enjoy!

So why does your profile say you have a 2023?

I rode past my dealer, I guess they have a few in stock now.

SR5 and 1791 in front. Once again, thought there's no way I could live with one without a 2-3 inch left and a tire upgrade. Or at least an off road oriented stock version. Proportions and profile just off for me with stock height and base tire package.

I had a 2023 on order, or waiting list, whatever you want to call it. I'll change it. Forgot about that and didn't realize people looked at profiles. lol

Thanks it says 2021 now. When I joined the forum, I ordered my 2023 and gave credit card # for 1k deposit was led to believe I had ordered one but in reality was just on a waiting list as you prob know. Anyway that's why I listed 2023 and totally forgot about it. That's what I said in my first post that I was interested in the 2023 but decided to get the 2021 for the reasons I mentioned. Feel free to comment on any of the content of my post. Sorry that upset you or anyone else.

I’m not the one who questioned it, just letting you know that nobody dug into your profile. It was plainly posted on your signature.

It's interesting that this is still such a heated debate topic.

In 2022 and 2023, Toyota has manufactured and sold 140k TTV6 Tundras. That's both years combined so far, or about 98k and 40k respectively.

That's about 3/4th the number of 2gen Tundras manufactured and sold in 2007, which was something like 190k. That doesn't include years 2008-2021, which are 1.5 million combined by my rough estimate.

Bonkers if anyone thinks a sample size of 140k against a sample size of 1,500,000+ is enough to either prove OR disprove the equivalent mechanical reliability of a set... unless the failure rates of blown engine bearings start piling up and we collect a bunch of these stories in a thread to track the issues... But that's neither here nor there.

No problem it's fixed now. Didn't mean for the discussion to become so off topic. Created profile after ordering a 2023. For reasons I stated I opted for the 2021. Hopefully discussion can be back on topic. No one really cares if there is a typo or someone forgot to update their profile.

ETA: This was the 2023 I ordered paid 1k deposit. Great deal but ended up being just a waiting list that may have been years. Forgot to update profile. Just got the 2021 two weeks go. Still may return it.
