You definitely are going to need a F350 or Ram 3500 for that camper

FYI: After adding tow mirrors, adjustable air shocks, helper springs, and a rear sway bar, we purchased the Cirrus 620.

No more drive through stops! Watch out for tree branches and such! I'd also get busy on a brake upgrade like yesterday.

    This.
Personally, I wouldn't keep a 1500+ camper in my Tundra. Airbags, shocks, helpers, yada yada, don't change the axle ratings, or body and bed mount ratings, etc. The bed is thin spot welded sheet steel that's only attached to the frame in what, 4 spots on those little beds? There's a lot more that goes into payload rating a vehicle than how much the leaf springs sag when you add weight.
However, I'm not as concerned about carrying the camper as I am about about the brakes. Especially if you need to stop quickly on the interstate while doing 60.
At the very least, replace the stock brakes 2-3 times as often, if that thing will be in the bed all the time.

Thanks for all the great advice guys! (Buys slide in camper that puts him 800# over payload anyway) :notsure:

Such a great feeling to troll the troll. I wondered if one would take the bait, and got my answer. Truth is the camper went up for sale within a week of buying it. LOL. Buyers regret!

Unfortunately, we were instantly upside down, the moment we drove it off the lot. Once equilibrium is met (aka: camper sold and loan paid off), we are looking to make use of the 10k lbs tow rating with a somewhat overlanding trailer with all the amenities to keep the Mrs. happy. We are researching things like the Black Series HQ15, or maybe even the HQ19. From what I can tell though, even though you can get a brand new 2022 model right now at 50% off retail, making it nearly a good bang for the buck, after close inspection, I am not quite convinced the quality is there... so still looking. At least with this route the weight (even wet) is within the capabilities of the Tundra.

A wise man once said, "Sometimes, you can't tell the people, you have to show them.." and although costly on the pocketbook, sometimes this rings true.

Bait? Not sure what you mean by that. I hate you had to go through the purchase and now the sale of the item that was almost unanimously recommended against here. We have zero skin in the game, just offering what you came here looking for, wise council. Hopefully you’re able to sell it and get something that will safely do the job. Good luck man.

    Nice.

Fakebook has lots of overland / off road trailers for sale.
Bed racks and roof top tents look pretty cool also.

Just messing with ya, brother. The wise counsel was very instrumental in the nearly immediate camper sale and now research toward an overlanding trailer, since Tundra tow rating is far more palatable than payload.

Great choice. You’ll be immediately over your payload numbers. Once you add any of the equipment needed to camp in it, people and gas, you’ll likely be over rear axle rating. This will put continuous strain on the suspension and braking components. Will it fail? Maybe not. Will the components wear out early? Probably so. Wheel bearings and suspension bits will likely be the first to go.

That's assuming a stock truck. If it's already got armor, bumpers, and 35s it's even worse.

Hope you're borrowing a 3/4 ton truck to pick up your new camper. Are you buying new? Any dealer that's half concerned about your safety and his liability isn't going to stuff that in the bed of a Tundra.
