Console lid creaking and loud power step retraction

I’m looking to reserve a Tundra Platinum and had a couple of questions for the current owners.

    1. I tried 2 different Tundras and both of them had center console lids that would creak when resting my elbow on it. If I apply slight pressure…I can actually push the center console lid down like a quarter inch after it’s closed. There’s a lot of give…very flimsy feeling.
Is this normal? Possibly resolved on newer builds?

    2. The power retracting running boards were very loud and noticeable when retracting. This is after closing the door and inside the cab…and it’s still very loud.
    Is this normal?

    thanks for any feedback!

What he said, my past F150 was 100 times worse.

That’s disappointing. Maybe I can make some mods to the console to solidify it. And deal with all the cheap plastic.
The new F150 Platinum feels much more solid and high end in the interior.
But I prefer the Tundra drive, handling and seating position.

I added the console safe to mine and the whole console feels super stable. The heavy duty metallic safe fitting just inside the console has given the space a more solid and weighty feel. YMMV but I feel that the safe is a superb addition.

Ok so I have been dealing with the creaking console issue. After seeing this post I decided it was time to experiment. I found that the passenger side latch was greased but drivers side was not. So I greased it and it got a little better. Then added bumpers below the latches for a tighter close and it does seem more solid. I’ll report after I have it for awhile.

Ya the console lid is a known issue. I even took it to the dealer. They told me it was working as designed. I guess the creaking is a safety feature?

I used barstool felt pads to close the gap when seating the console. That alleviated the problem, it still creaked quite a bit, but less.

I’ll def get some bumpers or felt pads.
    Will install the lock box.
And will also try applying some sound deadening inside the console.

Ok creaking is better, but gonna try a thicker bumper. When I figure it out I’ll post pics

I have a 2023 Platinum. There is no creaking in the center console. The power steps are quiet, even from the outside of the truck. The only thing I do not like about console is the cup holders. Hope this helps.

Ok great…that’s good to know that the steps should be quiet.
One more thing for my checklist before delivery.

I contacted Toyota Corporate this last weekend about the center console issue. Small sliding tray and both the release buttons constantly rattle when the truck is in motion, very annoying. Find myself driving with my right hand on the driver’s release button or in the small sliding tray to cut down on noise.
I was going to dismantle the lid myself and add some felt and bumpers at select areas… I read somewhere where Toyota replaced someone else’s lid for this very issue so I thought I’d try that route first. Well see

I had the console creaking too. I bought stick on weather striping at a hardware store. Creaking is gone and it feels more solid, no play at all. I forget the size but it was the biggest they had and it was like $7 for the role. Simple fix that is unnoticeable

Like anything else that’s exposed to the elements the power running boards need some maintenance . I spray waterproof lube on all the hinge points and pins.

I’ll be taking mine in to dealership soon to address my passenger side chip guard vinyl that wasn’t correctly installed at factory. I’ll let them replace my console lid and hopefully that will solve my issue.
Kudos to those of you that have remedied your console rattling issue yourself..! But this rattling lid thing from three different places isn’t my problem.. it’s Toyota’s problem

I copied the weather strip this weekend and it made a big difference. I also added felt under the release button to take up some space and eliminate the rattle from the button. I would say I got about 80% of the noise with these two fixes. Thanks!!!felt.jpglid.jpg

Wanted to chime in as I was also having creaking in my 2022 tundra and it was driving me crazy. This thread was a life saver. Thank you all for posting! I used the same 5/16" weatherseal as noted above on the underside of each side of the console and it drastically helped the noise. I bought mine in Black at Home depot for around $10.

Also wanted to mention that after I installed the weatherstripping I was still getting some creaking from somewhere in the cab. It sounded more like from the dash area in front of the passenger seat. Turns out it was the divider/shelf thing in the glovebox. It was loose and the weight of the owners manuals was making it rub/creak. Removed the owners manual and clicked in the divider/shelf and no more noise. Thought this may help someone in the future.

My creaking is pretty much gone now.

What size felt did you use? Or where did you buy it?

@SiXGUN…everyone on this forum should be doing this. I ran to Home Depot this morning based on your rec and got the black weatherstripping… $9.88. It’s like I have a new truck…whisper quiet. I may run it around the window jams
