I actually found it to be quite easy. They popped out without too much fuss.

Bypass kit will be ordered along with two pressure sensors so I can ignore the block off plates because there’s no way in hell I’m willingly messing around with old bolts and studs on a 16 year old exhaust system.

Installed a Hewitt secondary air pump bypass kit to get my truck out of limp mode after a switching valve had gotten stuck in the open position. Success. Easy install.

Not sure how I'll sleep at night knowing it'll take a few minutes longer for my cats to fully heat up. Sorry penguins. A bit less ice to dance on but I didn't feel like taking my intake manifold off.

Got my alignment done. Was a little off, but not terrible. Drove into town just fine, without any pull. Only issue I had with the install was breaking the spanner and having a wheel weight come off.
Talked with the guy at Big-O and I'll be taking my truck back in at the end of summer to take the Bigfoot AT 275/70R18 off and put 285/75R18s on. Just need to decide AT3 or something else. I'm at 16k miles on my 60k tires and they are no longer safe for driving in the heavy rain and definitely not snow.

So much. I catch myself ducking when those little tufts of cotton from the trees drift toward me when I'm driving because it looks like there's nothing to defend me from them getting sucked up into a nostril.

I am trying like hell to install this bypass kit for the SAIS, and can’t get the connector for the Air Switching Valve on either bank to come off. What a pain in the ass.

Fuck this kit, and fuck Toyota for the design of this shit.

    LOL. Yeah.

I’m not tolerant at all of things that are poorly designed or piss poor instructions, and the instructions for this kit are laughably bad.

I’m so damned mad right now I can feel my pulse pounding.

That issue seems to be getting quite common now with the age of these 2nd gens. Mine appeared last year and I could clear it. Now it got worse and won't clear and I'm in limp mode all the time. So damn annoying

My state does emissions testing. I'm assuming that because it tricks the computer into thinking the system is working normal, and it's designed to look inconspicuous, it won't cause the truck to fail emissions tests?

I think that depends on which kit you get. At least for my 4.7 it did. The scanner the emissions place uses would see some faults with the cheaper kit that uses the jumper from the starter relay. The more comprehensive kit allegedly shows no errors if scanned.

If installed cleanly both look pretty inconspicuous but if the emissions tech is sharp and/or well trained they could definitely tell the bypass was installed despite no codes. Maybe rub some dust on the split loom and connectors to help camouflage it a bit after installation.

Finally got mine done. They sent me an incorrect pressure sensor replacement wiring harness that will have to be swapped out. So I just put the good PSR on bank 2 and plugged the bank 1 ASV and bypass connector together and it works.

Plan on taking off way more of the main vehicle wiring harness anchors back on the passenger side to get access to the connector you have to remove from the bank 2 ASV. I also disconnected a sensor on the fuel rail (I think) back there and moved it out of the way too. Finally got it off with one hand releasing the clip and the other using long angled needle nose pliers to gently work it off the connection. It helped to push it in and then pull it back off by the way.

Once I figured out the PSR connector was wrong (for a different kit) Hewitt is overnighting the correct harness.

I prevailed in the end. Laugh it up.

Turns out my hands and forearms are too big to get to those connections without removing more stuff than the instructions indicated.

About the air pump crap. I've noticed that it's mostly 07-08 guys talking about this. Is it less of an issue with 10-13s?

Why do our trucks even have this? I've never owned another a vehicle that has a similar system. I know it's for emissions, but why?

It's a lot of $$ for preventative maintenance, but I've considered installing a hewitt kit before anything breaks.

I've also considered doing it preventatively but it seems like a lot of money and a challenging install to do if not needed. I am lucky to have a second car in the family I can use if necessary to buy me some time. Obviously, it could happen while out of town but 95% of my time is spent withing 30 miles of home.

The system is there to help the catalytic converters heat up faster. The cats aren't working maximum efficiency until they get hot.

Maybe I'm being paranoid, I would consider just ordering the kit in the event it is discontinued as our trucks age. I believe aftermarket support has been propped up by the 2.5 gen. I'd image we see it decrease with the 3rd gen out.

My truck has 58k and gets driven around 5k per year. I should be driving this thing into my retirement
