Hi all, I'm new to the Tundra scene and i am trying to figure out the best low-cost way to add keyless entry to my 2000 Tundra. I see some kits on ebay, but I am also learning about the OEM RS3200 system. Is this something I can just plug-in on my year model Toyota?

If you go to My Toyota and register an account, it will give you a build sheet on your truck. After that, you can see if it was an option and then it’s figuring out which fob you need (there is two).

Very cool, thank you. I don't see anything about an alarm being on the options for my truck. I see some download manuals for rs3000 and rs3200 though. I'm wondering if this would be a plug-and-play install for my truck?

Don't want to assume wrongly but do you have power door locks presently ?

That's a plus but that's all I got right now. I know it can be done but have not found the link showing how that I ran across one time. Surfing Tundrasolutions at the moment, perhaps that's where I saw it. What I do know is that most refer to the 2000 using the RS3000 when installed. This link is not much help unless you do indeed get a RS3000 installed.

    Good luck !

Thanks a ton! I'll start looking at rs3000 instead of rs3200.

If you have power locks and windows you most likely already have keyless entry. Are you wanting the alarm system?

Depending on cost, you might look at aftermarket. My truck has the factory security system but I still opted for an aftermarket system with remote start. It cost $300 installed, 1/4 mile range and life time warranty on parts/labor.

I don't really care about an alarm, I just want a keyfob to unlock/lock the doors remotely.

Since there are at least 3 systems one could have….what year, cab type is your truck and any other particulars you wish to share.

Thanks for the reply. It’s a 2000 limited access 4x4. I have torn this thing apart looking for the ecu and it’s just not in there. So assuming it isn’t, I’ve only been able to track down rs3200 kits. There are plenty of rs3000 modules but no harness

I’m not doubting you but only ask that you double check the 2 known places they attempt to hide it, lack of a better description.

This is a 2000 owner showing the RS3000 tucked in driver side area somewhat above fuse block

Also another location is described in this post from a TSB where they relocated some

    IMG_4775.jpg

General location if installed on right side of steering wheel.

I took all of that apart, checked under the seats, above the gas pedal, behind the left drivers ac vent, above the fuse box, I looked in the manual and there is no mention of key fob so I figured it’s not in there. True it may be in there but as far as looking where others have found it I’ve tried. It does have power locks so I don’t see why it wouldn’t be in there but here we are.

Were you able to find a solution for a fob? I also have a 2000 Toyota tundra limited, 4wd. Seems like there was no fob prior to 2003?

There is. It's the rs3000 system.
Looks like the ones linked HERE

Do you have the little glass break sensor by the fog light switch, left side of dash? Little black rectangle with a red light.

I don’t think I have that switch. This is all I have by the fog switch. Pic below or attached.

I tried doing the process of the lock switch 5x etc, but could never get the click sound (automatic lock) to say it was in programming mode. Like the car’s computer would never engage in programming mode.

    what is the square switch?

I'm gonna just drop this link here: https://www.tundras.com/threads/so-you-wanna-buy-just-bought-a-1st-gen-tundra-eh.115928/

@Xixthfret the thing atomicnugget pointed out is just part of the TVIP system which isn't required for keyless entry. Did you review the pics above from Bubba to confirm if you have the ECU or not? It's a pain in the ass to get into programming mode, but the proper way to enter programming mode is in the link I pasted up there ^^ just search for KEYLESS or KEYS.

Thanks for the valuable information. Haven’t got a chance yet to look for the ecu been busy with work. I did go to the Toyotas owners page and put in my vin to see the specs of the truck when it came out and I couldn’t find keyless entry, which is weird because I would’ve thought the the Limited trim would have it? Pic below. I will look through the truck soon to see if I can find anything.

The info there has been a little off since Toyota updated their Owners site a year or two ago.
