4.56 if not towing, 4.88 if towing.

Eh. Tires are heavier and more wind resistance when lifted, so doing 4.56 instead of 4.3's for 33's is better. IMO.

4.3 is goldilocks only by pure numbers which don't take into account the above.


Also better gearing wise for those with the 4sp trans as 2nd is taller.

4.88 for 34-35.

3.91x for most v8 4wd auto. 4.10 on the 04 DC (and all sequoias). 4.30 on early manual v-6 iirc

Yes. Way better accel and torque. It'll be like the truck woke up.

That chart is misleading unless you read the fine print lol. The green is with a 1:1 ratio but we have O/D so the gears we should choose would be near the edge of the red and green.

All the RPM numbers wouldn't apply to O/D.

I don’t quite have 33’s but 4.56 feels like everything and then some for my rig. Can’t see wanting 4.88 without two OD’s.

 

The way I see it, it just depends on your preference, fuel economy vs low end power. That's why I chose 4.56 over 4.88. I actually wanted 4.30, but couldn't find any because of supply chain issues. But I'm very happy with my 4.56's on my 295/75r16's.
I don't do any towing with my 4x4 now that I have another first gen with stock tires and a four speed. However I been considering 4.10's for it. Just for funsies.

Yes. You're a candidate for 4.88 especially if 34-35's are in your future.

You're the original owner of your tundra. Let's be real here, by the time you sell the Raptor, it'll be in the same predicament as your tundra unless you plan on being in debt forever always "trading up" every few years.

 

I doubt I’d have the Raptor for more than 10 years with current technology unless I learn the nuisances of the truck inside and out. After the Raptor it’ll probably be something a little more reliable and easy to fix (if that ever happens). I don’t want to go through life without having at least one vehicle that’s exciting to drive.

 

Sounds like short term, you need a tacoma.

For 80-90 I’d probably get a GR ‘rolla, a used diesel full size and a UTV w trailer.

I honestly don’t understand why buyers are so keen on paying so much for a midsize pickup.

4.10's probably would have been fine too.

Kinda counter intuitive but higher rpm doesn't necessarily mean worse gas mileage. It's about finding the efficient range of the motor. Our 4.7's point is a bit higher than an American v8.

I went from stock 3.91 on my stock tire 2wd to 4.10's and got 2 freeway mpg and 3-4 city mpg.

3.91 18/13 mpg before
4.10 20/15-16 mpg after

Yessssss.

 

Tire math is strange. This prolly explains the situation. Next set I’ll go bigger I think.

I think I paid 600 for the 4 of these. They aren’t small.

 

Pretty sure mine measured 32 after they were on the ground. 33 with no weight on them.

I would think mine would squat more with more sidewall. Maybe it's just psi? I'm at 35. Or just different compounds. Who knows?

I could probably tell you if my tire tread wear indicator wasn’t stolen when some guy rifled through my trucks one night a couple weeks ago while we were all sleeping. Stole some headlamp and camping light and tire tread / pressure. And my reg too.

 

Planning to hit the trails this weekend in the RZR. Convinced my girlfriend to sleep in the truck bed so we'll see how that goes. Got an air matress that just hardly fits in the bed and every inch of the bed as well.

Got two of these ryobi fans at $25 each to run on both sides. Couldn't find a great way to mount so I improvised and just used cord holders attached to the window mount bolts and put a zip tie through it. Should be good enough. (I'll only have them mounted while we're in it then remove before I drive)

I was under the impression that my 265/75s were almost that tall. Think I'm gonna have to measure tire sizes just for fun. I'm sure my 33 inch side by side tires are about the same. Especially since they stay at about 10 psi.

 

Wait, seat bolt torque is 27 lb ft? For reals? That seems ridiculously low

 

Picture it: the seat connects to the cab floor... not a ridiculously thick bit of metal. I think the seatbelt holds more weight in place than the seat bolts.
