But with those two issues this truck would only sell at a value much less it’s worth, which one will regret. Dad sold his LS 400 due to needing a timing belt and heater core for 5k when they went for 12k in the late 00s… it would still be worth 12k in today’s market.

I can attest to Cerakote, did the wife's headlights last year, still look great, and when they finally yellow and haze up again, the only thing I will use is Cerakote! Good Stuff!!!

Remembered another one: grandfather had a 90s 7.3 f350 dually with all the bells and whistles he kept mint (big red was not an allowed beverage inside). Traded it in for a new dodge in ‘12 or so and didn’t make it out of Texas in his new truck before the electrical issues sidelined their summer vacation. Repairs were so bad and problems kept coming up, so they sold the truck and camper for a ford edge and gave up the travel lifestyle.

One problem with this, Baby Momma probably not elligible to be covered on @Tundra2 medical insurance unless they get married & there might be a waiting period even if they do. Once the baby is born & Noah is listed on the birth certificate as baby daddy, he could add the baby. But momma hopefully also has a job with insurance. Valid points about insurance, but we can't impose our situations onto Noahs reality when offering our 4¢.

(and @shifty` how the heck did you get a ¢ character, where's it hiding?)

I've basically memorized most of the ASCII characters in the last 25ish years. Hold down the ALT key while pressing 0162 on the numeric keypad. ¢

It later came in handy having to communicate electronically with coworkers across the pond whose languages have umlauts and accents galore.

If you can't remember that, on any Windows system you can open CharMap - either pull up a run window and type in 'charmap' then hit enter, or click on the Start Menu and search for CharMap.

On Apple devices and many other mobile devices, if you press and hold the $ symbol, it'll usually give you other currency formats also. Same thing is true for the ` in my username here, if you hold down the apostrophe, you'll see the tick ` I use in my name there. Hold down on any vowel and you'll see all the non-English iterations of the letter.

I dunno, depends on the carrier or plan. With "domestic partnership" becoming more popular in the last couple decades for those with non-traditional marriages and/or relationships, it's pretty normal nowadays. Both my wife's work-supplied insurance and my work-supplied insurance insurance offer it as an option.

    Here's effectively my situation.

Previous bitch drained the whole savings.
I was working to pay off my 401K loan I took to buy camper. All my extra stacks were going towards that.

There isn't much of anything left in the savings. I am just trying to acquire down payment money for a house that's going to be livable by January for the girl, the 9yo the infant, and me. I will sleep in the car at work if I have to do so. I do not matter but I'll be damned if I hang them out to dry. They mean too much to me.

Anyways, I'll probably sell a lot of my unused tools here first. I have an unreasonable amount of mikfuckee shit that I just do not use but once in a while. I have an ass load of chargers, and ass load of batteries.

I will sell everything except what I need to acquire down payment money.

Regarding crackie, realistically, I have a 6ft bed that I can borrow for hauling stuff when home reno time comes. The inside of crackie is mildewy and moldy. I don't even like putting the 9yo in there unless absolutely necessary.

It's a fun truck, and I love it, but I love this little family that I stumbled my way back into more. I will be God damned if I leave them cold, wet, out to dry, etc.

I have major moves that pops and I need to talk about and make along with the girl before anything is set in stone.

I am not a soup like I was yesterday mentally when I was racking the finances trying to figure out how to make things work.

I do not want to get into the vicious cycle of renting unless it is my last option.

So I’ve done a lot of pretty serious automotive work… but this is a bit out of my comfort zone.

My ‘74 Fiat has slowly developed a rod knock in the time I’ve owned it. It has now gotten to the point where I can’t ignore it any longer.

The engines in these Fiats were designed with the rod bearings as a “sacrificial” part, and these engines will destroy rod bearings long before they damage the crank, rod, etc. So, that means I get to spend hours at a time under the car with oil dripping in my face. Lovely. At least I don’t have to pull the whole thing!

    FAFA7AD3-CBF4-42B8-8FB5-7111DAD0EB91.jpg

The engine needs to be lifted a couple inches from its mounts, but things can stay mostly intact. I didn’t even have to drain the coolant!

Here’s the “best” and the worst bearings out of the 4. Toast! Crank looks brand new.

I’ll post an update when I get it back together.

are they cracked mains or machined? ever used plastigage before?

Hows the nose of the trans? What caused the crank to flex enough to wear the bearings? My 22-re rebuild lasted a bit over a year of hard use. Slow car fast. But i think i remember an o-ring that seemed too small, or whatevs. Just pay attention to pressures, i guess.

The rods are machined, and I’ll be plastigauging them when it gets reassembled.

I think what wore them out is just a lot of abuse. The car can corner so hard that I’d imagine the oil pump really works hard to keep pressure at all the bearings. I really beat the crap out of the thing too- highway speeds are 4000rpm+, and I’ve taken it on a bunch of short road trips.

Happy Monday you mommy and daddy fuckers.
This week is ending on hump day for me. Thank god, I need these 4 days off coming my way. Think I might finally do some much needed work on the 4x4.
Time to wire the ditch lights (I mean pillow lights)... It's only been 5 years since I installed em to the hood.
Gonna wire the gentex compass mirror. That's only been waiting patiently for about a year or two.
Gotta install a new interior driver door handle. That's only been since T2S.

I think that's about it. Might try to straighten out my old Skid Row tranny skid and offer it up on the cheap.

What’s funny is that I should never need one, no matter how hard I run the thing.

I’ll save you the fine details, you can read the wiki if you want: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_Twin_Cam_engine

But these engines were designed to be racing engines from the start, and were used in Fiat and Lancia rally cars until the mid 80s with the same exact bottom end as what came in my car. Most were turbocharged and made over 500hp (some over 800) with a stock, wet sump bottom end. It’s got more WRC titles than any other engine.

Not really sure how I killed mine.

The girl, Pops, and I have a decent plan. Crackie is staying. The camper and the subie are getting liquidated.

If any of yall want either, I am open to reasonable offers on both, individually. Yall get first dibs.

I will cross post locally when both are ready to be sold.

Probably, they didn't have any at the Skyclub though.

Based on my wife's direct interactions with him over the years, I'm sure he'd get a kick out of that. To your point, they should have (and had in the past) some peach-oriented mixed drink at the SkyClub bars.

My boss' boss will be there later. Whereabouts you headed from here?

Typically don't do mixed drinks but I'm sure they do. Although I was in the T terminal club which isn't the best here.

On my way to San Antonio for a week to see my older brother.
