I'm sure some of you are aware that people have been modding their Tacomas in about 30 minutes to allow you to run 400W off the inverter even while moving. Guys have been running their trucks like that for years and I have yet to hear a single issue from it. I've been wanting to do this to charge my power bank and have been doing some reading into how it might be done on our trucks.

It seems we have the same or a very similar inverter to 3rd Gen Tacos so I think it's just a matter of figuring out how to apply the same logic to the Tundra. I'm no wiring expert and I can barely read the diagram, but from what I can tell, the inverter is in relatively the same location as the Tacoma and has the same Park/Neutral position wire. I'm not sure which one that will be once I get down in there or if there is also a speed sensor wire I'll need to cut as well.

Any help from someone smarter about these things would be greatly appreciated!

Here is the write-up for 3rd Gen Tacos: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/how-to-400w-anytime-mod-3rd-gen.436831/

Guess I'll post this outside the 3rd Gen section and see if it gets any more traction. I'll link the thread if I get any good answers

The Speed circuit is in Yellow, the Neutral circuit is in Green.

Wire color - a few examples are in light violet (purple).

The light blue is connector info. At the bottom you see N5(A) which is the connector, the pins with a circled letter A in them are part of connect N5. And N6(B) does the same with letter B.

The number next to circle letter is the pin position of that connector.
Connector N5 or A has 2 pins, one is W (white) and goes up to relay - and onward to 80A fuse. The other is WB (white w/Black stripe) goes to system ground. (should be heavy wires)
Connector N6 or B has 6 pins and are smaller wires where 4 are for signal and 2 are for 120AC sockets.

So I used my access to techstream a little cause I was curious on this mod as well. Decided to look up the a 2020 Tacoma wiring diagram for inverter, and like you said it's very similar. It's almost pinned exactly same, just different wiring color. Will doing this mod work? I'm not sure as Tundra is way more advance, but if someone wanna try and depin connectors, can give it a shot.
Both 3rd gen Tacoma and Tundra actually use same connector.

Here some diagram showing both tacoma and tundra wiring very close.
    3G Tacoma wiring:
As you can see, Pin 6 was grounded and Pin 2 was cut, these are the wires that was cut in the Tacoma thread that you shared.

    Here is the 3G Tundra:

As you can see Pin 6 and 2 is different color from Tacoma but basically same wirings. Pin 2 is SPD (Speed), Pin 6 is NSW (Neutral Switch)

@TakiEvo @Maharisc Thank you both so much for the input!

What I'm hearing is that in theory at least, we may be able to ground pin 6 (green) and cut pin 2 (light grey) and achieve the same result as the Tacomas.

All that's left is for a brave soul to try and test it.

Anyone know of any good how-tos on how to remove the center console?

    You can find that here:

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/rear-charging-and-connectivity-for-passengers.104747/#post-2779061

I don’t think you even need to take most of the console apart though. Pull the rear cup holder up and out, then the rear of the console towards the rear seat. The inverter and it’s connections are right there. You can see the inverter in pic #3.

The invertor switch only has an ON indicator.
Besides at idle and a drive, how do we tell what the output is between 100/400w?
The Tacoma has an LED to tell what the output is.

yeah I thought the same thing, one of the reasons I didn't order it, I guess only way would be to use a volt meter to check before and after.

I'd assume it does it behind the scenes w/o letting you know. If the item you are trying to run is trying to pull more than 100W while driving, it'll just shut off...guess that's another way of knowing the output capacity.

I just burned up my air compressor motor the other day, not realizing it was only getting 100w. How do we get it to 400?

Just checking in to see if anyone has tested the cable from ktjo4x4 or has a working bypass like older rigs have.

Taking some of the pressure off of @xeuxaz, I ordered it. I will report back when I get it installed.

@xeuxaz, congrats Tundra Bro, best thing in life are the little ones.

I'm running a Ausranvik, a cheap one off Amazon .
It must draw to much even though it only say 45 watts.

Here's my guess that I can't verify unless you can get a picture of the AC power supply so we can see the amp draw rating on it.

From a different brand fridge that I found on Amazon, the AC power supply is rated at more than triple the draw of using DC... If the same ratio exists for your fridge the AC draw would be in the neighborhood of 150 watts which would trip the inverter.
    upload_2023-5-24_12-14-18.jpg

One thing that I would be curious about, from the owner's manual that I found, it seems like there is a lower power eco mode on your fridge. I wonder if in eco mode it will stay under the threshold for the inverter to stay on.

I'll have to try it on eco mode when i get a chance. I actually forgot about that. Here's the power supply.

That power supply has a max input of 2.5 amps at 100 volts or... 250 watts
And an output of 6 amps at 14.5 volts or... 87 watts (that's 35% efficiency for anyone keeping track )

But, that does indeed exceed the 100 watts of in-motion power. Still curious if the eco mode will work but I don't have high hopes for you after seeing that power draw
