I have a 06 tundra with the backup camera from factory. I have checked wire going all the way front to back and it's in good condition, but the camera itself won't show a image. I have tried to find a replacement but can't seem to come up with anything. Would anyone know where I could find a replacement that would work? Or possibly wire in a aftermarket? The camera unplugs from inside the tailgate and it's a 6 pin almost like a mini XLR. Any advice is appreciated.

I'm not aware of these trucks coming with a backup camera from the factory and can't find evidence this was offered as a factory option, but maybe Toyota omitted it totally from the brochures I'm looking at?

I'm assuming it's a port option. Are you the original owner and buyer of the truck?

I am not original owner but I own it. It is the Darrel Waltrip edition, which I guess came with a backup camera. The camera lens just seems foggy/water damage and just displays white image. It threw me off too.. 06 with backup camera?? The image is displayed on the rearview mirror, which is also OEM from Toyota which is only reason I assumed it is factory as it is hard wired into mirror. Its like a 3-4 inch screen on left side of mirror. I see now it isn't very common, so it must be because of the edition I have. Its only 2WD but it has full TRD package with TRD BBS wheels, exhaust, etc. I have tried to do research on it and came up dry as far as fixing/ replacing it.

When I throw it in reverse the little square will just turn white. I will get around to splicing into cable to see how many wires it has.. but it's 8 pin connector so I'd think there's 8 wires. The wire is also not spliced into the reverse light at all, that was my first thought because I also assumed it was aftermarket at first. I just want to try and get it functional since I have it.

I don’t think that is factory.
You could try throwing the vin into the Toyota owners site and see the original build specs to see if a backup camera was listed.

I actually did that, and did not see that listed as an option. If so aftermarket, it was installed very well and professionally with grommets and all as well as cable routing. Im curious as to what is could be from then? I've done tons of research and came up with nothing at least to this specific camera and mirror. When I get time I will pull the cover on tailgate and get more info on it. Seems like im dead in the water finding exact replacement, I've been digging for a week and I cant find anything even similar to it but possibly because its old and depleted.

I want to add I did find ONE thing I forgot about to mention that I came across. I found this part, could be aftermarket or something but I know 2nd gen Tundras has backup cams like this right? But the camera in this picture looks almost 1:1 with the one I have. Possibly someone snagged one from a 2nd gen? This is image I saved from google as I was looking at 2nd gen stuff a few days ago.

I'm 99% certain none of these were stock options from the factory. We would've seen it on here from someone at this point, and it would show up in a catalog. I looked up several Darrel Waltrip edition 1GTs and I'm not seeing any with it. It's probably just a great install job from a shop. If the mirror was actually factory OEM, it'd have a Toyota part number on it somewhere, typically on the back. I doubt it's the case.

That said, you have a problem to solve and it doesn't get us closer by quibbling about whether it's OEM or not. Here's what I recommend, because I'm pretty sure your camera is dead and that's the brunt of your problem:

First, you'll want to pop off the plastic tailgate cover, then the metal plate, assuming you're not bedlined and just need to do the metal plate. Universal instructions HERE.

Once you get it off, you'll have a window into how the camera is mounted. I'm assuming it's drilled. You'll want to look at everything you can see to try and find a part number. Whether it's a tag on the wire, numbering on the wires, or something on the camera plastics (you may need to dismount).

Chances are you may just be able to replace it. Crutchfield sells standalone cameras.

Correct I just wanted to replace it with OEM camera if it was one, that was what I was aiming for really. My owners manual is also for some reason for the 07 model and it looks almost brand new which is odd. I've had the truck for a little over a month now and just figuring stuff out. I will definitely check Crutchfield out! Its also a 6 pin, not 8. Looks like what I attached.

Possible that someone put a 2nd gen cam on your 1st gen. Its not a factory install for sure. The camera is crooked. LOL
