I sure hope they fixed the trans programming and the seating position relative to the door entry size

Very surprised to say that I do like it, I was never a fan of the third Gen, looks or drivetrain.

I am stuck between being hopeful that Toyota is out for blood with the new Taco (protect that market share!) and thinking that it's going not be nearly as cool as it could be. GM twins are putting out 430 lb ft of torque from a turbo 4cyl that is by all accounts so far a reliable little motor.

I want to see the Taco return to its Hilux roots. Unkillable, go anywhere, 1 metric ton of available payload. But that would involve more payload than the 3rd gen Tundra gets, so I'm not holding my breath.

If the new Tacoma has better seat positioning with a tad more rear space, I'd honestly be tempted to trade the Tundra and go back.

There’s a solid 90% chance the new Tacoma is going to be super lame. Toyota had 15 years to redesign the Tundra and all we really got mechanically is an optional rear locker that only works in low range, coil springs on the rear axle, 4 more forward gears, and a TTV6 that makes an additional 8 horsepower and an additional 78lb-ft of torque.

So my prediction is we see the Tacoma get a 10 speed, coil springs out back, and a turbo I4. If the same percentage of power gain from the Tundra is applied to the Tacoma that means we might get 280 horsepower and 318 ft-lbs of torque.

Probably optimistic considering the bread and butter Lexus RX had the same 2GR-FKS in a higher state of tune making 295 horsepower, and 267ft-lbs of torque and the replacement I4 turbo T24A-FTS (which is the same model the Tacoma will get) makes only 275 horsepower, but torque is up to 317ft-lbs. Tacoma will probably get the Highlander tune for 265hp and 309ft-lbs.

Pretty freakin’ lame compared to the 2.7L GM I4 turbo.

My coworkers brand new Expedition broke down at 950 miles. Wouldn’t shift past first gear. Power Control Module went bad. Ford dealer fixed of course but didn’t seemed too surprised it happening. Toyota isn’t perfect, but Ford reliability isn’t good.

Minivans have better payload than some midsize trucks. Don't go knocking them. :p

In defense of the I4 turbo T24A-FTS the torque delivery characteristics are superior to a naturally aspirated V6 2GR-FKS, and probably better for use in a truck, SUV, or a minivan.

I will hold out some hope that Toyota will bring a slightly larger displacement I4 than 2.4L to match the GM for power, but they probably won’t. Toyota’s solution will be a hybrid to match the GM for torque and power. Unfortunately Toyota’s hybrid adds a lot of weight and eats up storage space.

The mopar exhaust on the Rebel GT was annoying. Every cold start was very loud and borderline embarrassing. Engine braking down hills(I was in Banff so I was doing this fairly frequently) was obnoxious. I dont feel like my truck needs to sound like im drag racing just trying to head to Tim Hortons in the morning.

The tires are an easy enough fix, and having suffered through a set of Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires I agree 100% on the excessive noise. Plus no matter how many times those tires were rotated and balanced they cupped, and vibrated like crazy at highway speeds.

The small fuel tank is a tougher issue to remedy though if you buy an AT4 with the 6.2L, I don’t think anyone makes a replacement tank with greater capacity for the gasoline engines. There is an aftermarket tank for 1500’s with the 3.0L Duramax though.

Personally, I don't want to hear the too much rumble at idle after the truck is warmed up. When I enter the trail section up north going through the forest I want to slip through unnoticed. My Borla can only be heard when on it. I live in the country on a large lake. Sound resonates and bounces. Yeah, everyone knows the sound of the RAM, they are loud even at idle. There are a bunch of new RAMS here and you can hear them from a distance. I thought the guy that buys a Limited trim RAM would want it quieter. Now if Toyota would allow me to upload the exhaust sound of my 993 into the algorithm, that would be a selling feature.

This is why I got a canopy for my truck.
I looked at a 5.5 ft bed with a tonneau cover and ascertained that all my wife's crap wouldn't fit in there on trips.

Hell no lol. If I could find one at msrp sure. It’s a showroom demo I found in Michigan. 2022 black with recaro interior for 79k . Still has front locker, heated steering wheel, and advanced security pack.

yeah really looking hard at the GH as a maybe replacement for the 4runner in my old age. have to really see how the 6th gen 4runner stacks up interior wise to a GH.

i will need a heated steering wheel and more tech and bigger screen in my 6th gen to make up for holding out on my 2014 for so long. gotten spoiled on the wife's 23 tundra.

I am in a loaner escape because the dealer needs tomorrow morning to finish completely rewiring my tailgate button as per the recall.

I'll say again, In my opinion hands down dumbest and most useless feature on higher end new pickups. I almost told them take one off an XL that has a regular latch and manual lock and paint it rapid red for me.

But how are you supposed to open the tailgate without spilling your latte on your flannel shirt. Imagine if you had to yank on a handle and the tailgate came flying down at you. Yuck.

You just have to spend more money on skid plates, rock sliders and ceramic coatings to keep it pristine.
