A bit over 13k. Going for an early oil change before we start getting busy with Summer trips. Oil and filter, early front and rear diff fluid change, wiper motor recall, and it turns out it really did need the tailgate opening recall. They said they can definitely do the tailgate. 50/50 as to whether they'll get the wiper motor parts.

If they don't I'm going to ask what the plan is if peoples' wipers stop working.

Looking back I see unintended tailgate opening has been a long running problem for Ford and to some extent for Ram too. The electronic tailgate button with remote release and close has quickly made the top of my list of most wasteful and useless features that I wish had been left out so that money could have made something that matters to me standard on a truck. Like, get rid of that, make power folding side mirrors on an 302a XLT standard. Not once have I said "Thank God I don't have to deal with a tailgate latch" or "I'm so happy I can drop it with the fob." But plenty of times I've found myself pulling through narrow openings and wished I had the power folding mirrors from the Lariat. If you want to save chips, make a manual tailgate latch standard on these trucks and I bet few if any people would care as much as they do about other stuff that's removed.

My coworker picked up a Limited the other day so we got a chance to compare them, I liked the interior (other than the screen seems like an afterthought the way it is not flush with the dash) but boy did it feel smaller than my Tremor. Felt like I was back in my Tacoma by comparison. I’m sure it’s much bigger than the Taco but just felt tight.

That door looks like a double cab, but I can't really tell. What is a Crewmax?

Yeah I remain convinced Toyota will get its quality problems squared away but a top issue that shaped my decision to stray was I could not see myself in a truck with a shrunken interior after 13 years of people telling me on road trips they felt like they were in a limo.

9 1/2 feet of legroom in the rear seating seems a little excessive to me though. When I first was shopping F150, I sat in a super crew first, and I was thinking this is ridiculous. so I went and sat in the super cab and it was the opposite.

I’ve always kind of wish somebody made one that was in between so it was like 6 inches shorter and i didnt have a 157” wheelbase. I really like that the ram HD’s are 149”

It's a 6.5' bed Crewmax. Double cab wouldn't have roll down rear window like this one have.

A full sized passenger or a rear facing carseat behind the front passenger seat while my wife was still able to recline her seat and move it far enough back to cross her legs and lay a magazine Or book on her lap was something I did not fully appreciate until I experienced the blissful peace and quiet it brought me on long drives. A cab full of adult passengers who can recline and stretch their legs on a long driven makes for a much better atmosphere as everybody goes to sleep and doesn't worry about your speed, the radio station, or fiddling with climate controls.

IMHO One good option for Toyota might have been a standard crew cab option with the 6.5 foot bed and the crew cab dimensions it has across the board now. Then a "Megacab" type option like the Ram where you get the 5.5 foot bed but a cab just as spacious or an inch or two more than the previous Gens. And Figure out a sliding reclining rear seat that also folds up.

My 157" wheelbase powerboost is mostly an easier drive than my 09 shortbed Crewmax was with the 360 system except that the days of making a quick stress free u turn at an intersection in heavy traffic in one shot are over, I'm circling the block.

    Re the exhaust
Well its very subjective. Its either noise or music.
Toyota voted for the later and determined something was needed.
So they piped in the Lexus 5.0 V8 sound into the new Tundra according to that MT review.
Based on this video I prefer an Octave or 2 lower. It has to at least match the purr Octave of my Savannah Cat which is truly relaxing.

To be fair, Ford has fake engine noise in my Tremor too. Equally lame.

Ran into a guy camping this weekend whose 2.5 gen Tundra with 65k miles was in the shop for a fuel pump. He was out of warranty, but Toyota extended warranty coverage on this to 90k miles. The dealership gave him a 2023 SR5 for a rental while they waited for the part to come in. His comments:

    • Torque delivery is obviously better.
    • Truck drives much larger (turning radius, extremely long hood) than the 2.5 gen, but has reduced visibility.
    • He said it feels like a larger Tacoma.
    • Interior seems cheap compared to the 2.5 gen. Maybe due to lower trim level?
    • It is bullied by his 7.5k-lb camper more than his 2.5 gen that has a modest lift and LT tires.
    • The ‘23 has the wind noise issue.
    • He got 15 mpg in the ‘23, and 14mpg in his lifted 2.5 gen.

I would’ve bought one of these in a heartbeat if it had been available. Same wheelbase, same frame, same overall length. Just 6” less cab length and 6” more bed length.

Not too small for adults in the backseat like the double cab, not so big that it cuts into usable bed length like the crewmax. In the absence of this nonexistent happy medium, I have no regrets going with the crewmax. My tailgate is just down sometimes.

Its 2023 at least provide the owners with update capability via SD card to use whatever recorded engine sound they want.

I have a loaded 2022 Lariat I bought new last July. It has been a mess with electronic gremlins, parts availability and a strained dealer network. 43 consecutive days in the shop. It’s probably my favorite design but it doesn’t matter if the company and dealer can’t support fixing a problem. Ford is buying the truck back.
    I’ve had 5 Fords in a row, mostly f250’s and f350’s.
I’m done. It’s between a Tundra and an AT4. I’m leaning strongly towards the Tundra.

I’d get the AT4X over the at4. Seats in GM outside the denali ultimate and AT4X are trash

My digs against the AT4 are the road roar tires and the too small fuel tank. The Denali is too pimped up for me. Anything will be a relief after the piece of shit Ford. Only Land Rover has a higher defect rate and it’s close. Ford warranty expense is 2x GM’s. So bad it’s mentioned on earnings calls. That says a lot.

The 36 gallon tank is so nice. 600+ mile range while turning 35s is awesome for road trips with little kids. Don’t have to stop to risk waking them.

Curious why you offer so many opinions on a Tundra forum when you have a Ford with no intent to change?

No, I have read where guys have got the dealer to turn it off.
All I am implying in this. Toyota or any manufacture should allow you to upload whatever sound through the speakers.
Same way you can upload pictures to the legacy head units going back many years.
The issue is they (Toyota) need to figure out how to make money on it first, (a monthly fee) before they allow you to do this - JMO

The seats didn’t bother me. I drove the the new one with the refreshed interior and I thought it was very nice. Miles ahead of the previous version.

Glad you like your truck. I’m anxious to make the move.

I’m only really active on this thread, I had a Tacoma for years, and was really excited about the new tundra because I needed a full size at exactly the time it was coming out. Pretty disappointed in it, so I ended up with a Tremor. I still like Toyota, my wife is on her fourth 4Runner, so if they never getting the bugs worked out of the tundra and maybe once they update it with a newer exterior that isn’t so ugly, maybe some updates to better compete with the big 3, I may come back to the fold.

I should add that it probably does make sense for a couple of pro-F150 guys to participate here. Since that’s the point of the discussion, to compare the trucks. Can’t have you guys circle-jerking each other too hard.
