My local dealer just quoted me $2,500 + tax just for the install labor. The service tech told me that ANY lift, even 2", requires very complicated recalibration of the Toyota Safety Sense systems. I haven't heard this before. Can anyone comment?

This is a good question. Although from my experience I didn’t have to recalibrate my TSS after I had my Toytec lift installed on my 2020. Not sure if Toyota did anything with the 22+ but my feeling is as long as it has similar rake after the level you should be good. I could be completely wrong and would be interested in hearing others that have done lifts/levels on the 22+ and if they had issues with their TSS

The instructions for the TRD lift do specify a recalibration is necessary. However I would imagine most do the westcott or similar and do not recalibrate and are just fine.

I know mine was recalibrated when they did the lift because the dealer tried to charge me separately for it…

I’ve had two alignments done by the dealer after I leveled then after 2” lift and there is no calibration needed, I have TSS. For them to say there’s a complicated recalibration is a big stretch and probably an up sell to get more.

I got my OME 2866 off eBay while they were still being sold as Land Cruiser springs. The dobinsons are nice

Great find on your 2866s! Yaboy, is that pic a comparison of the stock TRD OR rear coil spring with the OME? The Toyota spring looks so weak in comparison! No wonder the OME or Dobinson ride so much better. I’m excited to receive my set of C59-843V. I’ve heard Dobinson are amazing, just couldn’t get my head around the pale teal green. Red on the other hand

This is a comparison, now think of spending the money on the TRD lift that just adds a 2” spacer on top of those stock springs.

You are right Yaboy! That’s exactly what I did haha ;) while the TRD lift kit spacer is indeed red, it’s just a flimsy red piece of plastic on top of those already unimpressive coils! Having the Dobinson in its place will be a major upgrade.

Will Toyota consider replacing the rear spring (and 2" spacer that was part of the TRD lift) with 2866 or Dobinson as voiding the warranty? Obviously it would void the rear stuff, but will they deny a warranty claim (say a CV leak at the front axle for example) if we mess with the rear lift components?

I want to replace the rear springs as well, but wasn't sure on this.

Who knows…warranty battles are a crapshoot at best in these departments since most of the time the burden seems to be left on the customer to show that “the modification didn’t cause or had something to do with the failure”

The TRD UCA, is it adjustable or fixed? anyone know if it has increased castor?

Curious why TRD felt the need to replace the knuckle, tie rod ends. Any ideas guys?

is the front ride height adjustable? say you didn't want the full 3" lift, could you lower it?
Its obviously not a threaded coilover, are there circlip positions to allow different lift height

how does the TRD rear lift spacer work?
With all these new redesigned parts up front, i'm surprised they didn't include an adjustable panhard rod in the rear.
Is it not needed with a 2" lift?

We’ll just took my wheels off for the first time since getting installed and found this:

All over the back of the wheel too:

What worries me a bit is I just went on a 1500 mile road trip. Trying to get ahold of the dealer now. Shoot.

No bueno and seeming to become all too common with this lift. Anyone diagnose if this an install issue or just an issue with the parts? I’ve had mine for almost five months and haven’t had any issues with the seals like this

More issue. I just put on 1” spacers and still have rubbing on the sway bar. Obviously not as bad as before, but still there.

Again, how come Toyota says “this kit should be used with OEM wheels and no bigger tire than 285/65/20”. So I stayed OEM wheel and went with that tire size. And I still have rubbing…even with spacers. Very frustrating. Didn’t want to get new wheels but I might need to.

Any recommendations on offset? I don’t like poke beyond the flares.

Sounds like something might have gone wrong in the install. There some element of tolerance stack up here. I have almost the exact same truck as you with the same size tires and no rub. I bought spacers but never wound up using them.

Thanks. I’m dropping the truck off at the dealer now to have them fix the axle seal problem. I told them about the rub and they are going to look at that as well.

Has anyone installed the kit on a hybrid model with the circlip in the lower position? I'd like to keep a bit of rake for load carrying as well as reduce the CV angle so the boots don't explode.

IMG_8808.jpg Was about to order this kit today and found some of the online Toyota parts stores are starting to say that part no. PTCCY-34000 is “No longer for sale”…. And the places that still have it in stock, are starting to discount it… I like savings, but that’s not a good sign.

Wondering if there are perhaps further issues with this kit than we know.

Well… the “order it” part is simple. But
my guess is the members who posted the issues throughout this thread (and others) aren’t quite past the “be done” part. Wasn’t trying to annoy you (or anyone), was just pointing out that some Toyota parts depots are no longer selling PTCCY-34000. That, coupled with all the issues listed in this thread, should be a bit of a red flag, no? Maybe I’m just overly cautious.

Edit: my Toyota dealership contact just responded to my texts. Wouldn’t outright answer my questions about whether there are documented/known issues on the Toyota side. But essentially he said (friend to friend) it would be best to wait a bit before ordering this kit….

Well… sort of similar yes. In that case Toyota recognized the turbo issues and temporarily stopped production while they looked for solutions with supply chain hurdles complicating things further. Meanwhile any affected vehicles already in the field were being fixed at the dealerships as they encountered issues. Seems to be mostly sorted out now (some might disagree, but we seem to be seeing the bell curve of turbo wastegate issues die down).

And as we see here with the lift kit, there are “some” issues creeping up. Enough that some Toyota parts depots are no longer willing to sell that lift kit now. And recently I’ve heard from a Toyota mechanic that it is best to wait until they get some things sorted (like you mentioned, it could be because of faulty parts, or it could be that more dealership mechanic training is needed - they aren’t willing to go on record to say just yet).

Was simply trying to help others out with making an informed decision and share with the community what I heard (what forums are for).

All this to say, I tend to be on the cautious side with my hard earned money. So I might be making a mountain out of a slightly smaller mountain, but certainly not a “mole hill”.

Mine had about 1000 miles on the kit when I had problems. It’s fixed now…dealer said most likely came defective, but they couldn’t be sure. They said there were razor like cuts in the boot.

I have this kit, installed by a 3rd party so I’m only getting the 1 year warranty I guess since it wasn't installed by a dealer at the time of purchase. That’s the only way to get the 3/36000 warranty.

For wheels/tires…I went with a method 705…18x9 +18 et. Toyo R/T Trail 285/75R18. Nothing rubs—isn’t even close. I have maaaybe 1” of poke

Had sway bar rubbing on my OEM lift with 285/65r20 tires and+50 OEM 20" TRD OR wheels. Spidertrax 1" spacer fixed it but I then had to remove the mud flaps and pin the fender well carpet back.

Not sure why some have rubbing and others don't but so far I've had no issues with the lift itself. Looks and rides great.

Same lift, same size tire, same wheel…same offset…no rubbing. Tire diameter measures 34” under load once installed (34.8 uninstalled/unloaded).

There has to be something off with your install…could there be any other explanation?

cruiserhead, you get any resolution on the sway bar rub? I have the same issue, TRD rims though, but with 285/65R20 TAKO's like yours. Just had my passenger side CV shaft replaced, had razor like cuts in the boot like I saw mentioned as well.
