Exactly what kap1 said, there’s no definite answer to if it’s an issue, it’s more so a piece of mind kind of thing. I think for the ones that did have the transmission replaced, toyota corp told the dealers directly to take that action so they can get the old transmission back and do further investigation, as well as to not have a bad reputation since it’s a brand new truck/model.

I'm in the process of buying a new 23 Tundra SR5 Crewmax. At the dealership, Koons in Annapolis, MD a few trucks on the lot had that ticking / clicking when I test drove them. So they replaced all the transmissions. Heading back tomorrow for another test drive and hopefully take one off their hands. I'm told they still have their warranty.

    TRANS or Differential?????????

I was at KOONS Toyota in Annapolis, MD and a couple of the SR5,s had that same clicking. Since then they told me they have replaced a few transmissions & differentials. I'm headed back tomorrow to hopefully purchase one. Will definitely test drive it before hand.

They can keep replacing them, it’ll still be there. It’s on every hybrid I’ve ever driven.

    can’t say on non hybrid

Let us know if you find one without the clicking noise please. Seems like it's normal operation... Based on the info we have at the moment

My mid May build 2022 has been ticking since day1. Most noticeable when window open at a drive through. Hasn’t gotten worse so just ignoring it and assume it’s normal. Till it’s not.

Have the same problem here with my 22. Notice it more on hot day or after long drive. Definitely noticeable in drive thru.

Having mine replaced as we speak. Started with ticking sound and progressed to gear slipping from 1st to 2nd. Keep an eye out for noticeable hesitation/clunking when shifting.

2023 SR with less than 200 miles and less than a week old started making the same exact noise. Was fine the day I drove it off the lot. Kinda makes me sad ...

What made the dealership decide to replace it? Were they able to replicate? Mine has been having similar symptoms. I brought it up at 15k service, they did the TSB for hesitation/start up clunk. Now due for 20k service, and I’ve noticed some harsh shifts/with clunking noise that I’ve never noticed before.

Hi there, I took my 2022 Capstone in and they found metal shavings in the transmission- replaced transmission and any component that the transmission fluid touched. With the new transmission installed the ticking is still prevalent. I also have a slight burning smell after about 40 mins of runtime. Truck has 20,000 Km on it. Toyota stated that this noise is normal function for the transmission.

Is there any consensus as to whether this is normal or sign of transmission issue? Seems like I have seen both takes. I have the same exact noise from the video in first post. Has been like that since day 1, 15,000 miles on July 22 build.

Nobody knows. So far we don't have reports of anyone's transmission actually failing, many trucks on this forum make this noise and still drive without any issues

I Found out today my Ticking definitely came in from the transmission, it's interesting someone commented on the metal shavings, because that's what I presumed in my head after I started to ponder what thise noise could be or a loose valve

Same with mine, right now my transmission shifting not that smooth especially from 1st to 2nd gear, and I also have the ticking noise issue. The dealer will change my transmission after 4weeks because I am in Damn Canada and need to wait the delivery… so when you changed the transmission, could you feel the junk shifting from 1st 2nd gear again? And could you hear the ticking noise again? Thanks!

I heard from the grape vines that there is an actual investigation on the transmission at this present time with engineers, they may recall it.

Has anyone noticed a clicking/ticking noise coming from outside the truck, driver side when driving mild speeds 30-45 mph when the window is down? I just started hearing this the other day and thought it may have just been the truck warming up but it has been doing it constantly at around those speeds.

have you noticed this on a new gen 3. It’s almost like the sound of a rock being stuck in the tire or like a baseball card in a bike spoke.

I have, its a pretty distinct signature sound coming from the rocker arms. Similar sound to my gen 2 tacoma.

interesting. This is the first time I’ve heard it, although I don’t get to drive with the window down that often where I live. it’s a fairly faint ticking noise. It gets somewhat drowned out with traffic and wind noise but detectable at moderate speeds. It’s different from the ticking noise that others here are experiencing when stepping on the brake during a drive thru.

I have this noise as well. Only noticeable when a wall is there to reflect the noise back really. Happens in park and in drive for me but if you give it some rpm (900-1k or so) itll go away. To me it sounded like direct injection, but the noise in the OPs vid is exactly what i hear. Seems we havent come to conclusion if this is normal or not lol besides the noise my trans is fine, 2023 SR with 3k miles fwiw.

I’ve noticed this pretty early on with our 22 TRD PRO, initial cadence of sounds of irregularly regular, but it sounds more regular and nonstop now. Like others have mentioned only in drive through against a wall is it noticeable.
