    Too many, but not enough....
Yeah, black is really tough. My white truck is alot more forgiving, which is why i went with white, since I am really bad at keeping it washed. My last truck was black and looked horrible from the swirls and dirt perspective but it was old and i didnt care lol. The paint itself wasnt too bad.

    Lots of stuff!
I had a look at mine after 6 months and there are no apparent paint issues, just dirt.

I did notice that the spoiler moves if you press on it. And that there are 2 contact points where the spoiler contacts the tailgate. There seems to be a sizeable gap everywhere else.

All you need to do is sit on the open tailgate or put a load on it and that will start the process of paint removal.

A quick fix might be to take it off and grind down the 2 points (I think the spoiler is plastic or ABS) or shim the spoiler so it doesn't touch the tailgate. I will check this out soon when I put my flares on.

should be in the next day or two, I traded my 2016 in and they gave me a loaner while they make all the mods I wanted.

I then take delivery, maybe tomorrow

Toyota's paint (other than their single stage white) is decent.....But it is SOFT paint. Meaning it scratches, swirls and mars easily.

Does anyone know if the tailgate is steel or aluminum? I would be less concerned about corrosion if it is aluminum. I think the bed sides are aluminum.

TRD Air Filters, Front door windows tinted to match the rears. Wheel locks, Talons Garage cat shield, Tyger Automotive soft tonneau cover, WeatherTech floor mats with Tuff Skinz Custom Emblem kit, Toyota OEM Emblem Black Out kit. AVS vent covers on all four doors, Red Tundra letters on front bumper & TRD highlighted in Red on front grille. Tailgate Tundra Letters in Black.
Squeeze a small bead of automotive clear silicone caulk in there. Problem solved

Stick a magnet on the tailgate to see what it is. Apparently, some aluminum is used in the box but that could just be early marketing.

    2nd gen cons...

    Shit interior....
    Shit gas mileage...
    Shit power output...
Shit ride (compared to 3rd gen)

    2nd gen pros...

    Reliability

Oh...and I have actually driven both.

I do not have the paint wear issues OP described but Toyota corp. has been great in addressing the issues I have had so far. 24K miles only issue I had is with the rotors on this truck.

always wanted a gx460, but the deal breaker was that the nearest lexus dealer was 550 miles away for any warranty work or general maintenance. after talking with lexus financial, they explicitly stated that any warranty work or recalls, etc would have to done at a lexus dealer and it was my dime to get it there outside of the vehicle not being able to be driven. they could pick it up but it was my dime to come pick it up afterwards if it was a covered cost. in the end it was just to much hassle to deal with and just resigned myself to just buy toyota's since there is no lexus dealer in ND.

Yes, mine has the same paint wear in the same spot. Service manager is going to look at it next time I take it in. I was told they needed to send to the body shop and wouldn't see my truck for like 6 days. lol... Mine had it before I put a tonneau cover on it too.

Most of that piece has about that size of a gap except right by the handle. Sounds like either some need new spacers for the gap or were cranked down too tight.

I just checked my 23 that I got 2 months ago and it looks like I’m starting to get a small chip in the bottom corner as well. Not sure if I should try to pry out the spoiler a little bit to see if it pulls it away from the tailgate a little bit. The left side has a good gap, but the right side corner is basically touching the tailgate. I don’t want it to get any worse, so I’m stuck on trying to fix myself (maybe add silicone and touch up paint on the small area) or just take it to the dealer. I don’t really want to get something brand new repainted. Mine is very minor, but based on the thread it looks like it gets worse over time.

I've got the same wear around mine. Also, looks like the tailgate is steel, tested with a magnet, so would definitely see about getting the dealer to fix it before it starts to rust.

I have a Retrax cover but it doesn’t seem to influence the tailgate. With the tailgate and Retrax closed it doesn’t move the plastic around the tailgate release.

My Diamondback foam seal touches the top of the tailgate but doesn't push it down. I was able to get some movement of the spoiler just by pushing on it. Mine hasn't started rubbing the paint off and I will do something with it before that happens. Probably shims to increase the gap.

The dealer called me back today. He said Toyota was aware of the issue and was working on a fix. Said it would be a month or two.

Just looked at mine. Very late '22 build on a platinum. Trim fits tight and so far no issues in that location for me.

And yes, with a magnet test, it is steel.

One more thing. 9 mo in an 11k miles. Absolutely love this truck. It's not 100% perfect but nothing is and it's damn close. Many things I raised an eyebrow at initially, I've grown to appreciate the thought and features in the end.

Hands down, for my use, there's not another vehicle made in the entire world that I'd rather have right now.
