Great to hear! I know Matt had asked if I wanted to help test some things but the truck was in the body shop at the time, and now is in full use daily drive mode so I couldn't help out at the moment, glad YotaWerx has been able to, if development can keep holding a strong pace I can see VFtuner being like a house hold name for the tundra.

    I agree.

I really like the tools available to me/YW in VF for the tundra, especially on the transmission side of things.

I installed a standard 91 Octane Torque Modifer tune this weekend and adjusted for 33" tire size (thanks to this thread). Questions y'all might be able to answer:
    • What exactly is the Torque Modifier tune doing different than the regular?
    • What exactly is happening when I select Tow/Haul? It's definitely faster when I push the button! The product page describes being able to program a second tune and using it for Direct Shift but requiring you to put it in S-mode. I'm also unclear if Direct Shift works for my 2008.
    Thank you!

Programming a second tune (map switching) isn't available yet. Idk if it will still be done.

    GL/DS works for 2018+

Tow/Haul from factory has some sort of logic that isn't accessible in VF (yet) that multiplies throttle response and lengthens shift points.

The torque modifier tunes prevent the factory-set torque reduction during shifts. This is definitely an acquired taste however. In my opinion and that of several of my testers, these settings resulted in a harsh and jarring shifting experience, I really didn't like it. So between that opinion and feedback, I did not provide it to my customers.

Some people do like it, so VF provides it as an option.

Personally, I prefer to improve transmission control elsewhere, such as via torque targets, the shift logic itself obviously, and torque converter settings.

The way mine works is the GL works in regular mode (no Tow/Haul) with the shifter in the Sport mode. The Direct Shift works without Tow/Haul also. All the rest of the tune is in Tow/Haul and 91 octane. Without Tow/Haul it is 87 octane

Question: does adjusting the tire size in the tune change how speed or MPG are calculated? Here's why I ask:

    C292A471-48C5-4896-BD4F-FEDB97F48F59.jpg

That's on the highway but I normally get 15 MAX. Makes sense given I'm using 33" tires which propel me further with each turn than the stock tires.

I also started using 91 Octane and the tune so it could be that, or both, but I didn't expect such big results.

changing tire size only adjusts shift points appropriately

the speedo is governed by a separate ecu, likely related to safety systems, and not via the main ecm.

Anybody still using VFtuner...have you traded-in to the new wiflash device? Was a paid mailing label provided, or did you have to pay out of pocket to ship it back?

Is it worth trading in to the wiflash device?

Not really, unless fancy new tuning features come for the tundra that are exclusive to WiFlash software. Absent that, stick with your tactrix device.

The WiFlash doesn't support j2534 communication protocol either, so no using Techstream with it. We do sell compatible openport 2.0 devices though

I’ve had nothing but trouble with WiFi flasher. Only successfully flashed 2 trucks out of 7 with it, and one of those was through USB. Bricked a 2nd Gen Tacoma ECU because the flasher lost connection. I’d def recommend sticking with legacy dongle for as long as possible.

Oof. That is a terrible success rate, I'm really sorry to hear about that.

I've flashed my Tundra wired and wirelessly a few times with my WiFlash, because I needed to update our tune guides to reflect the new software and hardware, but I am not at all a fan of the WiFlash device. I also continue to prefer using my legacy dongle. Luckily I have both as I have one of the early kits that were available for people to snap up for testing purposes.

Additionally, using Bluetooth for flash introduces a very long flash time due to the inherent data transmission rates limitations of BT, putting flashes at 3.5min consistently (tested via stopwatch), while wired flash remains the same as the wired legacy tactrix device.

now that tech stream is being phased out for GTS+, the VF Tuner cable won’t work well with GTS+. I gotta get one of those $500 mongoose cables

Running a stock sequoia with a lift and 35's, but wanting to get a tune locally- $500. Number one concern in the tranny shifting especially while towing (need to eventually regear but unlikely to do that for a year or 2). What should I expect out of the $500 tune from our local guy? How long does it take?

    Where you located?

When I tune a truck, I typically take 45min to 1.5hrs. This includes hooking up the vehicle to GTS+ and making sure all ECU’s are on the current version. Then going through special functions like disabling seatbelt chime, the way windows roll down, lighting, ect. Then I’ll reset the engine and trans learned values so they have to learn the new stuff. Some vehicles also resetting the ethanol content value. Close out GTS+ and get in to the tune software. With a base tune, I’ll adjust trans and throttle response to what I think the person wants, I usually get close or spot on. Also take in account the engine performance mods and adjust a few parameters there. Flash the tune, then let idle for about 5min or at least until the Long term fuel trims come in. As long as fuel trims at idle look in spec, then it’s road test time. Collect data while the customer drives their normal way on surface streets, then hit the highway for about a mile. Flip a u turn and lay the hammer down till we reach at least the speed limit so I can collect that data as well. Review fuel and knock data, and if there’s any adjustment to be made, head back to the shop and make that, and any trans or throttle adjustments as well. Then, do test drive again until every mark is checked. Longest I’ve taken from start to finish was 2hrs, but that was because tech stream was being slow. Many traveling tuners will only take 20min, then you’re off. I don’t like doing that, but that matches about 75% of the folks out there anyway.

Cool. If they let you check out what they’re doing, def ask questions and make sure they run data for idle and on road

I still have this old OV tune 1.3.1 software from flashing my Taco many moons ago. I see I can still hook up and read my Tundra ECM. Can I still use this to unlock my Tundra ECM and flash it or do I have to update to 3.0 and buy the new cable? Literally want to just flash it and forget it.. It's always a bummer it gets pretty financially involved to make this happen.. On a side note if anyone has a discount code for going to the SEMA event feel free to PM me =) I seen they were going to be handing out a discount code there and a discount code is what I was waiting for to even do this since I'm not in a hurry.. Thanks

They just had a discount that ended on the 1st. And yes, you’re gonna need to download 3.0 but you should be able to use the legacy dongle.

I'm still using a mongoose cable, which I see doesn't work with 3.0... so if I have to use 3.0... I'll have to get a new cable as well.. Thanks. Just confirming that my 1.3.1 is too old to be of use. And the sema2024 code was only for pro tunes and wouldn't work. I saw they were going to be handing out a code at the SEMA event though I was told.. I'm about 30hrs away from there though so not sure the discount would compensate for the fuel cost lol. Thanks

Just got ship notification for the ECU interface for 3rd Gen Tundra. Next up will be tuning R&D. My question for 3rd Gen Tundra owners is what could be better about the truck performance wise, transmission, throttle, ect?

I spoke with a friend and he said the biggest complaint is getting going from a stop. I see that the 3.5L motor is trying to push a full size truck without turbos being spooled up. So that’s going to be a challenge to correct, but I see that it is doable. If any of you have input on this, with extra detail to add. Please I’d like to hear it.

Next complaint was transmission shifting. Seems the trans gets confused in some spots and doesn’t know what to do. I can clean thatup, but any extra input would be appreciated.

Then responsiveness from driver input. That’s an EZ one. But again, input here would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

So I saw VFtuner finally had a sale going again, so went to purchase a cable and tune and turns out.. they quit selling their premade tunes because of EPA/CARB compliance issues... Is it still possible to get there tunes via 3rd party remotely or what are my options for getting some kind of tune on my 2021 tundra, that'll up the torque curve..... I live a good distance from any sort of shop that can "custom" do this so was really banking on this... It makes sense they have a sale at the same time they can no longer sell premade tunes lol.. of course.

Just a quick shout out to hit up @texoma if you need a tune for your vftuner. Great dude and price. Helped me with this tune more than I expected. Truck is for sure peppier. Cruise control surges some but I assume that's just because theirs more power available than the cruise is thinking there is..
