Also it looks like my left high beam has a stronger hot spot than the passenger side. After firing the high beam solenoid several times, they even out. I believe the pass side shield was sticking a bit.

Generally when you get these from Ghyna, you should bench test them and fire the solenoid a good 20-30 times to eliminate the chance that it sticks.

Changed my oil today in preparation for T2S. I may need to stop buying oil filters for a while.

Guilty. This is from my headlight swap pic last week. Not as bad as you, and I just hit 75k, so I'm due for my 500-mile-since-seafoam-in-crankcase oil change this weekend, so ... shit, that reminds me, I need to get a jug of oil... :D

My pops and I just finished installing the Skid Row plate and cat guards. Noice.

We then went ahead and took care of the passenger side valve cover gasket. I noticed two of the 4 coils were missing the rubber gasket between the coil and head cover so I ordered a set of gaskets, boots, and springs to replace them all. Topped up the power steering fluid reservoir and she is ready to go.

I keep my filters in the basement. Read somewhere that it's best to keep them in a cool dry place so they'll last indefinitely. (Maybe you said you had a basement garage I don't recall)

So im gonna probably be going on a long camping trip for atleast a week maybe two soon and was thinking ill do my oil change before i leave as its due pretty soon.

Ive always used conventional, but thinking its about time to go with synthetic as it seems like its a better oil and conventional is getting harder for me to find in the stores.

Ive heard of possible leaks after switching though, but was just wondering if you guys had any input on switching. It seems most of you guys are using synthetic though right?

    Thanks guys!

It would seem my previous owner(s) used only dino. Only leaks I saw switching to full syn were at the valve cover, but that came from the corners which weren't cleaned/FIPG'd properly after previous person had valve covers off, potentially to fix the cam seals, I really dunno.

If you're really worried about leaks, put in 6qt and a full bottle of AT-205 at the same time. It'll rejuvenate your gaskets. Then top off with oil as needed. You should only need to do that once. But I wouldn't be too worried about leaks. Obviously YMMV since you've surely got higher miles. Just stick with a high-mile synthetic. Mobil1's is excellent.

I mean, kinda? My data closet is in the basement, and I'm venting climate controlled air out of the data closet (for heat reduction/air flow) into the garage. So, like, you remember when we had that 3-day bizarro cold snap where temps got down to 4, for 3 days having highs of 19-20? My garage was still in the 60s while it was below freezing outside.

I don't have a ton of humidity control because garage doors, but overall, the temps are pretty well regulated. My basement is climate controlled, and I'm pumping basement air out to the darage in metered amounts. It's about as good as it'll get.

    Hey me too :)

I switched from Valvoline conventional to Mobil1 Synthetic at around 150k, ~170k miles now and still no leaks. I switched on the recommendation of others on here and really have nothing else to add about the experience.

I guess having nothing else to add about the experience is a good thing. Sounds like the switch went smoothly and is going well! Thanks for that input, ill be giving it a go tomorrow.

Oooh definitely open to suggestions. Ive never gone camping in northern california, at least not since i was a kid so i know nothing about where to go. I will definitely look into that campground. Also ill be doing the "Avenue of the Giants" which has been recommended to me by a few people.

Sounds fun! Haha, Northern AZ for a week for T2S, then possibly southern UT elsewhere in AZ for at least a week after that.

No mods besides regular maintenance and up keep.
I did the valve cover gaskets today no pics on a count of how much a pain in the ass it was! And I speak for myself and the little patience I have in my “old age” i used all Toyota gaskets and bolts. Shout out to @shifty` for helping others and in turn helping me. One thing I was uncertain of was the torque specs the Haynes manual says 53 in-lbs seems like it’s not much so I torqued beyond that I figure I’ll check them after the first drive tomorrow.

Any reason you're not goin to Tundras2Sedona? There's going to be close to 10 first gens that I know of. 5 from CA. 3 from TX. and I believe a couple resident AZ boys. Even one of us from TN making the haul.

Ordered a replacement case for the locker. $287 total. Free shipping. Won't know if I'll have time to get it installed until I get a tracking #. The case should be identical right? I'll still measure backlash and check contact pattern when I swap the gear and guts over, but I can expect it to be good or damn close right?
