you sure its rubbing frame, or is it rubbing sway bar? Pics? I would think it would be hitting fenders and liners before frame.

He said it was rubbing the frame, I asked for pics of it because it sounds wrong.

I decided to have the 35s mounted and I’m taking it to a 4x4 shop on Tuesday to have it chopped to prevent the rub. I had them look at it with the stock wheels before I went back to have the new wheels/tires mounted.

I’ll post another picture in a bit at full turn to show the rubbing. No issues on the sway bar/control arms. It was just hitting at full lock at Discount.

So the passenger side does not hit at full lock, but the the driver side does. Method 705 18” +18 with Toyo AT3 35x12.5x18

It’s got to be the sway bar - or, at worst, the extension in front of the body mount. I did the TRD lift on mine (installed myself) and preemptively did the body mount chop. With 37x12.5 BFG KO2s on 17x8.5 +28 Icon Vector 6s, the only rubbing I get is on the sway bar at full lock

Yes, it’s the body mount that has a slight rub. I noticed I said frame, which may not have been correct. I’ll be getting the body mount chopped. My understanding is this is a type of crash deflector to prevent the wheels from going up into the cabin?

Apologies, as this is my first Tundra and lifted truck.

That’s an extension in front of the body mount. You can remove it easily with a grinder with a cut off wheel. Here is what it looks like after cutting it off (and painting):

Not sure why they included it… Toyota did the same on Tacoma, and, in some of those, you have to have a plate welded on to cover the resulting hole in the frame. In the case of Tundra, as you can see from my pic, the frame remains fully enclosed and intact, as long as you don’t cut too deep.

FWIW, people have been doing the body mount chop on Tacomas for years.

Truth! My Tacoma is chopped. Way harder (although still easy) than the Tundra. Mainly
Because the Tacoma requires a filler plate.

@Taikowaza first off thanks for the shout out. Second, great right up. Hopefully, that post will help some in the future that have questions about the install. I think having the experience of both setups will better justify the standard configuration to people looking to install. Glad to hear you are happy with the performance now.

I dunno about you all…but it honestly scares me (and I do know/respect each person making their own decisions) to remove that crash bar piece after widely reading that Toyota specifically included it prevent the wheel from intruding the cabin in the result of a crash.

To my knowledge this piece wasn’t on the last gen Tundra (I had a 2015 before this) and that the body mount chop (which was/is very popular) is something different than removing this added crash bar piece.

…so as much as I love that 37 look…and knowing that the added weight/rotational mass, Crap mileage and all the other stressors it can add when going 37’s, removing this piece is probably the only thing stopping me from going 37’s as I am in the corner of “Toyota engineers know something when they decided to add it in”

Again…fully respectful of each person’s decisions.

Agreed - and also comes down to priorities. If you need the clearance for wheeling, that body mount is sure a PITA.

@TundraLtdCO , I need to know the same. I will be adding a camper so I assume with the added weight the spacer isn’t required. I will keep you posted ,as I might install the bags prior to installing the camper, and please do the same.

Can anyone speak to the ride quality of the TRD Offroad Package coupled with the TRD Lift Kit? I'm torn between getting a 1794 with the TRD Offroad Package and TRD Lift Kit or a Platinum Non-Air Suspension with the TRD Lift Kit. I like the black interior better than the saddle brown, but I think the TRD Offroad Package will trump the interior color. Thanks!

BTW...Toyota, if you are reading this, offer the TRD Offroad Package as an option on the Platinum model!

If you wheel a lot where you think you think you are going to be using the TRD package main items (hill descent/crawl control/etc) then that’s probably one of the bigger draws.

If you don’t NEED those functions and will be tearing out the suspension anyway then get the look you want and modify from there.

Toyota’s thinking seems to be that you don’t need to be going all out off road wrapped in all that luxury…and they feel they provide options for those compromises (though we don’t all get all the matching parts we want).

so you may just need to “complete” the truck the way you want it but start with a base you like/love and go from there.

Agree 100%. I personally think the TRD lift rides great. After purchasing it I felt like maybe I wasted some $ on the off road package because I basically paid for a suspension kit I don't use. I do like the other features (locker, mts, crawl control, down hill assist) but won't use them all that often. Not sure they're worth $3k.

I agree with above, ride quality with the TRD lift kit has been great. I still see the value in getting the TRD offroad features impost importantly the rear locker.

This probably isn’t place to post my question, but here goes. I bought new take off strut assemblies, shocks and 20” TRD wheels off a 22 TRD Off Road Limited to put on my non TRD SR5, am I risking having trouble using my original black non-TRD CV Axles with the TRD Struts?

So am I understanding correctly that the TRD lift can be installed on a TRD Pro?
Would be so awesome if it can be.
I bought the Westcott lift but have seen a lot of bad reviews so I have not installed it.

Dropped the truck and kit off at a dealer yesterday. They said I can keep the fogs on and will be done by Friday. It’s going to look like sponge bob’s legs with the 18 TRD pro wheels and tires lol :)

Just picked mine up from getting installed. Looks sooo much better. Mpg hit definitely noticeable with the bigger heavier tires. But I am very pleased overall.

2023 1794 hybrid, not TRD off road. Tires are the recommended 285/65/20 (KO2s), but I am getting some rubbing at full turn with these. I was expecting no rubbing, given that I am using the size per recommendation. Are others having rubbing with this size? Or maybe the offset on the 1794 rims are a bit different?

offset is high on those, check some spacers 1”+ or new wheels is always good
