An oil leak has developed around the oil filter cannister/housing. Anybody have a similar issue? Nothing leaking from up above. Oil plug is fine. Changed and tightened the filter assembly. It only seems to leak when the vehicle sits for an extended period. Will change out the filter housing soon.

Mmmmm. Sounds like the oil filter canister cap O ring is in the wrong groove.

If you buy the Mama Toyota oil filter there is a picture/sketch right on the box showing you which groove the O ring goes in. I think it even shows you with a X where NOT to install the O ring.

Thanks, again. I will let you know what I find out when I do the removal and closer inspection. Maybe I did misapply the O Ring.

I'm not home today so I can't grab an oil filter box off my garage shelf. But I have found this which is the correct picture from the box. I'm correcting myself. They don't use a X but rather a NG (I'm guessing for No Good). Touche.

received. Thank you. The truck is in the body shop. The extended stay there revealed the leak. I get it back on Tuesday and will take it off immediately. I may have done the NG version. Thanks for all the effort and info.

After further review, I left the old oil filter gasket in place and also installed the new one in the wrong groove. So it had two seals. One in the right spot and one where your diagram is a NG. Probably just enough gap to cause the leak. Installed the filter today according to the directions. I can't believe I did that. I have been changing oil in that truck since 2012 with no problems. Live and learn. Thanks again.
