Click the shifter when it’s in drive to the left, should default to whatever gear is in at the time. Then you can click it forward and back to raise or lower the max gear

If you have a hitch and a plug for a trailer, it’ll tow. May not tow up to its max capability the way it’s optioned though. Toyota recommends trailer brakes for any trailer over 3-4K pounds I believe. If your trailer doesn’t have surge brakes but electric brakes instead, you need a brake controller. Tow haul button is unnecessary for towing, but a nice feature. Changes the accelerator mapping and transmission shift points. You’ll just have to mash the gas yourself to make it do what you want. S mode is still available to keep you out of overdrive and allow your to manually downshift for grades.

The payload rate ratings make no sense on These Tundras. The SR “should” have the highest payload based on the brochure but most of the door stickers are the same or much lower. Sorta a mystery

You can compare the two models side by side. not much payload difference from an SR to an SR5. No brake controller available on the SR. Same brakes. Same trans. Same ratios. Same rear axle. Depending on which cab config you bought, your payload will be lower than the max 1940, which is a mythical beast.

It’s been over 30 days and now they are appraising my SR 4x4 for 37 k when I paid 44 k.
I want the SR5 4x4 base no extra options which is only 49 k and would at least add the tow haul, drive modes, more towing capacity, the trans cooler, grill shutters….etc. But will cost me too much to get out of the SR so stuck for now I am afraid. Might as well ride it out until I can upgrade to at least a Limited

I have the double cab SR so it should be closer to the max payload but it says 1500 on the inside door sticker. That 1940 must be a myth or the sticker is wrong

Even the published numbers for each trim from multiple sources fail to show what trim and config gets 1940#.

Toyota engineer said SR doesn’t have the trans cooler. I didn’t see it. If you find it please let me know

Wow! Speechless! Looks like the SR has a trans cooler.

I guess it is a good thing that my trailer only weighs 4,200 lbs.

It will probably a short time before a tuner can tweak the SR programming to get the power up to the same or more power as the next trim.

The engineer explained it like this

“8000 lbs isn’t enough weight to push the driveline cooling. The torque converter will stay in lockup and the tranny temp will stay within the range.

Toyota keeps their engine temperature much lower then other companies. This is one reason why their vehicles go several hundreds of thousand miles.

The SR is only rated for 8300? They def de-tuned the heck out of it, toyota shouldn't do that, they didn't in prev gen. The SR still came with same v8 5.7 as all other trims.
