My Mountain bike addiction, it's just as fun working/upgrading the bike as it is to ride.
Any Stumpjumper fan boys here besides me? Lol

Have a buddy who has a new carbon one. Another friend just got a 5th gen Fuel EX8.

And here I ride my wife's Cali SL because it's far better than my old Specialized P1 All Mtn.

I dropped a class at Michigan State back in the early 90's. I used the refunded money to buy a Rockhopper (not quite the Stumpjumper). It went with me to Germany, somebody tried to steal it at Fort Hood when I was there - the handlebars wedged themselves in the storage unit somehow and the assholes couldn't get it out). :D

I have it out on my covered side porch right now, ready for me to work on it and get it back to being ready to ride again.

When I was a kid I wanted a rockhopper with some rockshox Judy S-something lol. I think I ended up with a decent diamondback though.

The new carbon SJ is the only bike you’ll need, can do it all. Put XC tires on it and it rips down the trails

Pretty good sales to be had on specialized website.
I had a rockhopper for 12 years and really enjoyed it. It was stolen during the pandemic (we were riding bikes a lot as a family so I needed to replace it and options were limited). Couldn’t find a stumpy in my size anywhere and ended up with a Davinci Troy full susp (alloy) and picked up a rip rock 24 & riprock 20 for my kids.
I’m still rocking the Troy, but I just got my 13 year old a rockhopper comp 27.5. Great bike so far. He rode my Troy and couldn’t tell the difference between his and mine. Lol. Glad I didn’t spring for the stump jumper for him, but did always want one. Still kind of do, but happy with what I got.

great sale going on now, but you’re essentially getting them at msrp price pre covid with 25% off promo.

I had a 2013 trek cobia hardtail before my 22 SJ. Being on a bike is all that matters, i loved both but man this new SJ is such a beast. i feel like this one will be with me for a while like the trek cobia.

So far so good. It’s by no means the limiting factor when I’m riding it, haha. I use it mainly for a fun fitness option. Does everything I throw from xc style rides, mild downhills, and everything in between. Honestly all these modern bikes with good geometry / travel/ and components will though. I got it from evo (ski shop) so it came with a few upgrades that help it out. I’m still not convinced the 29” are the end all/ be all, which is why I got my son the 27.5. I got no complaints really. A carbon SJ was what I was after though.

My 2019 Stumpjumper. Nothing special, just a FS Alloy 29er and no mods other than pedals (Chesters) and dropper post. But damn do I love this bike! I rode a hard tail for 16 years, and just going to full suspension was such a significant change that I never bothered to do any other mods.

    Also...
I picked up a Levo last year. Still a similar design, but different geometry. There were better options out there, but I guess my addiction goes beyond a Stumpy and to Specialized in general. I love this bike as much as the Stumpy! I still ride them both, but which one I bring depends on where I'm gonna ride.

Jumping in on this one, been working the ATX area recently and coming from working Big Spring Tx, seen a few Specialized MTB, and this one rider had a Stumpjumer and it was love at first sight, so I went to a Specialized dealer and saw me a SJ EVO comp alloy, this thing is awesome! So I'll be taking the plunge on one soon

Anyone here standing at 5'11" ? My Stumpy is an S4, I switched out the saddle for a bit wider saddle, I've tried all the way back and forward, I took out the stock handle bar and went up in rise to 35mm, I can't remember the width of them, I believe I knocked off about an inch off both ends, the handlebar is set correctly up, btake levers are kinda faced at 45 degree downward, so I'm getting a lot of wrist fatigue and right elbow gets numb and having to set my my palms and thumbs on top of grips, seat post is about maybe 3/4 of the way up, pedals are flat pedals, never tried clip pedals, never seen a mtb with bar ends, anyone try those ergon grips with the bar ends? Or try the togs?

Sounds like you're either doing a death grip on the bars or your wrist angle is wrong. Based on the information here those are the only things I can think of that would cause what you're describing.

I like flats, and switch them out for clipless when the trail I'm riding warrants them, or if I'm racing. Being able to maintain power and traction throughout the pedal stroke after some practice is game-changing.

Bar ends are sort of a way of the past, I don't think anyone really uses those anymore.

I used to ride and race when I was a teen (in the 90’s). I had a Rockhopper and I absolutely loved that thing despite how heavy it was. Specialized is a fantastic brand.

Just a lowly Rockhopper Comp for me.
My road bike is a Specialized Allez Sport with a bunch of upgraded that is so old when I contacted Specialized with pictures they could not even tell me its age.

It’s a great bike that fits my needs and the folks at the local shop always love when it comes in as they don’t see the older stuff much especially in such good shape.

Here’s my steed, Stumpy Evo S4. I recently went back to mechanical shifting, added Code RSC Levers, and a Cascade Components link. Absolute weapon of a bike

Yup my SJ is all mechanical, not fan of any batteries on my bike. You can’t beat the feel and shifting performance of XTR derailleurs.

Yeah I'm with you there. My bike came with a GX Axs set up, which I took off and ended up selling for twice as much as it cost me to go back to a mechanical set up. Better shifting and made money on the deal, huge win in my book.

So my whip came with the wireless setup, but the seller took off and put on his son's lower end model SJ and put mechanical on the one I bought, you prefer mechanical over the wireless???

100% prefer mechanical over electronic. I feel the shifting is crisper, and I have the ability to do small adjustments with the barrel adjuster on the shifter should I need it. Electronic shifting isn't supposed to need adjustments, but I feel like my old set up was never quite perfect. And there's about half the un-spring weight hanging off the back wheel now, which I feel helps ever so slightly with small bump sensitivity.
