Close....the full-open vertical slide back power window was a New Feature in 04 for all DC's(SR5/LTD/Sport Trac).

Here, let me Google that for ya :D

Seriously tho, the only "warchest" I have is the New Features post that I reference. I can't remember my name half the time much less all the new features of the Best Gens :eek2:

Yeah, there’s a nut in every state. I actually found a beautiful DC lifted in AL for $20k with 99k miles. It really is nice. I didn’t even try to talk him down. Simply messaged him and told him to contact me when he’s ready to accept “reasonable” offers. He sent me a laughing emoji, but then proceeded to immediately tell me he’d go no lower than $17k. So he laughed…but then dropped $3k without a second thought. I think that says it all. He knows he’s trying to shaft someone.

Re: style. I actually think the 1GT DC looks more balanced with the bed size and pleasing to the eye than the AC. The AC looks kind of top-heavy and goofy, hard to explain. 2GT I feel the opposite. As much as I want the larger cab, the crew max looks utterly stupid with that ridiculously short bed and loooooong cab. The DC 2GT looks much better than the crew max, but I still don’t want one. I don’t want my tall friends crammed in the back.

Lol sorry, it wasn’t personal. Like someone pointed out earlier about opinions… (I have mine, but it’s not even important in my own household)

I’m still a throwback to 60’s and 70’s trucks. My brain has trouble processing the large cabs with short beds.

Appreciate the info - didn't mean to mislead, was talking about the power horizontal 3pc slider.

I think it's the taller body style, with more creased angles on the DC making you feel that way. The AC and RC have a longer, sleeker appearance which makes them look flatter.

My only single gripe about the AC and RC as well, it's the tail lights. I wish we would've gotten more-modern looking tail lights... but then when I look at the DC, the headlights and tail lights look mismatched because the headlights are curvy and sloping, and the tail lights are chunky and angular.

The 2000-2003 AC looks exactly like the best selling truck of 2000-2003. Carbon copy.

I saw what I 'think was a 2nd Gen the other day in an odd configuration.
It had a really small extra cab and an 8 foot bed . . . . it just looked very unusual.
I've seen a handful of them over the years here in So Cal, and they always strike me as 'odd'.

I don’t like the looks or the functionality of the ac trucks. I almost pulled the trigger on a crewmax in 20 or 21, whichever year the voodoo color dropped. I can’t stand the little bed on the crewmax. I’m glad they now offer the bigger option for them but it will be years before I get one if ever. Once the type s is paid for I’m probably going Supra.

Yeah that’s part of the reason why I’m still really leaning to the Gen 1 DC. I just found a beautiful one 30 min ago with just over 100k miles, exactly like the one in your profile pic, down south. But they want just shy of $15k (sigh) I just can’t rationalize that for a 20 year old truck. And no record of the timing belt being changed.

I paid 15k for mine in august with 115k. Did all the timing stuff immediately afterwards.

Well, I finally found one 2004 Double Cab. Slightly higher miles than I wanted, and a little more than I wanted to pay, but the truck is so clean that I couldn’t pass it up. Frame is in beautiful shape. The paint is nice. And it has a hard bed cover on it. No leaks, everything works smoothly, including the 4 wheel drive. Seems to be a very well-cared for truck.

I do have only one concern, though. Something that I’ve noticed with a couple of the 4.7’s I’ve driven. The oil pressure seems awfully low. Is that normal? No light comes on, even at idle, but the needle is near the bottom. Even at highway speed, approx 2k rpms, it’s just above the first mark.

There was bitching and complaining on here recently about the needles and where they sit, how illogical they are on the 00-04. It's different on the 05-06. Before you get upset about the position, as others have been, read this. Oh, and as I said in that thread, my needle barely budges, even if I gun it at highway speed and I'm at 5k RPM. My truck has 75k miles, it's a young'un.

I suspect the oil pressure gauge may just be stupid on the earlier models, similar to how the ammeter/voltage meter is. Is it possible?

And congrats on your new score. "Higher mileage", what does that mean? 125k-175k would be my ideal mileage range to find with one of these trucks.

Yes, I do notice a slightly longer time for the front to settle down after speed bumps. Instead of just one compression and stopping after of the bump, I’d get an additional spring back up once and then it settles. So that will need to be addressed soon.

I figured as much about the needles, especially after having driven a 72k mile one about a month ago and it was similar. In retrospect, I should’ve maybe bought that one. It also had a clean frame, but there were signs that it really had a hard life (blown out air bags, signs of previous damage to bed with poor body work, etc). He was asking $14k, but I think he would’ve taken $10k. But that is neither here nor there. My boy mentioned maybe throwing on an actual gauge just to see that pressure, but since it’s such a known issue, I won’t pay it much attention.

Mileage on this one is 157k and I picked it up for just over $13k. There are plenty of trucks available with less miles, some even much less, as I already mentioned. But they just don’t seem to be as well cared for, or they have rotting frames. It’s been a frustrating journey, as everyone who owns a 1GT thinks it’s a minimum $13k truck because others are asking that, regardless of miles or condition. It was painful dropping that much on a 20 year old truck, but I was just sick of driving for hours and hours on many different occasions only to find a turd that looked great in pics.

    I’ll post some pics later.

@shifty` by the way, nice signature. I saw Rollins band twice in the early 90’s. First time at Lollapalooza 1 in ‘91. Dude was awesome.

edit: oh and holy crap, under your name, just realized. Lol Bauhaus. We were listening to Love and Rockets yesterday on our travels for the truck. Met Daniel Ash after a show in ‘95.

Thank you. Yes, I’m confident that will be my experience. Driving the 160 mile trip home last night, I was continually impressed with how solid the ride was, and how smoothly it rode. My last truck (2005 F150 5.4 with half the miles) was not nearly as solid, felt like things were beginning to come apart by comparison. You could hear creaks in the dash on even minor bumps and a somewhat sloppier feel in steering and suspension. Not to mention, my OCD-driven fear of the cam phasers and timing chain nightmares on the Tritons resonating in my mind didn’t help. The ride home last night was as concerning as sitting in my living room watching tv. :)

Hey congrats on finally getting into a 1GT! My first appreciable time driving one was my 180-mile drive home from buying it and I remember listening, feeling, thinking about every little noise; didn’t even turn on the radio the whole drive home. Funny, my truck just before was a 2000 F-150 “access cab” with the same motor as yours. My 2001 AC “feels” very similar and I think it’s what I’ve loved most about the 1GTs having long-driven an F-150: it actually is what I always wanted my F-150 to be!

Now I just have to train myself to use the AC rear door handle on the outside and stop reaching for the F-150’s latch on the side of the rear door. :) Probably do that ten times a day.

Don’t forget to update your profile, OP, with your truck info when you upload some pics.

Oh yeah, and although the lot allowed me to pull the cover and verify that the belt wasn’t cracked, a new timing belt kit is in my very near future, as they weren’t able to provide info on when it was last replaced.

    Thanks. Fixed it…

That looks like a very nice truck. I will warn you, yours has the somewhat rare freaky master cylinder/booster. I believe because your truck has traction control which most don't.

Not a big deal unless it fails. Very expensive to replace.

yeah I was a little concerned about that. The truck that prompted me to start this thread had the same issue, if you read from the beginning. It took weeks-months to get it from Toyota and it was $1200 according to the dealership.

I will ask, though. What are the signs of it failing? Because I noticed a very hard brake pedal. It’s not the typical, gradual pressure that is easy to modulate. It’s more like the pedal hits a wall. It will stop hard with hard pressure. But it’s just like there’s no give in the pedal. And is there any way to change over to a more conventional master?

That doesn't sound good. It could be a sign of an issue. Is it stopping ok aside from the hard pedal?

Anything is possible with the right skills and patience. I don't think any member has done it though.
