ICON Vehicle Dynamics BUYER BEWARE!!

Just a heads up if you're thinking about going with an Icon suspension. I bought a stage 8 icon kit and had it installed early 22. Both rear shocks are leaking like sieves. I have less that 10,000 miles on them and nothing crazy has been done with them on. I called their customer service and they told me they were outta warranty and I could ship them to them and pay for rebuilds. I get the 1 year thing, but FFS, only 10,000 miles on a high end remote resi shock? I've emailed them pics a week ago and have heard zip. Be careful where you spend your money. It's all good til it isn't. @Icon_Adrian

Been reading about Icon's [lack of] customer svc for a while now. Not surprised. It's the #1 reason I don't have any Icon on my truck.

 

Damn. Was just about to pull the trigger on the e-shocks (CDEV/IIC) system.

Damn, I've had my system on for about 18 months now and i have definitely put more then 10k on my truck. No leaks whatsoever but now it will be harder to notice because I just installed boots over the shocks. I have the same setup on my 2017. I will have to start inspecting them each oil change, sucks about the customer service considering what I went through to get them.

 

What kinda boots did you put on?

I'm currently talking to Steve at @AccuTune Offroad to rebuild the shocks in the Bulletproof kit I acquired. He's sending a quote soon.

 

Good to know, cancelling my order now. Will stick with Fox or King.

 

That just sucks. First there is the aggravation of the failure, then time to try to get them to do something, time the truck is down, time spent trying to figure out how to get it fixed and time actually getting it fixed, not to mention the money involved.

 

What kind of maintenance have you done since it was installed? If you wheel a lot more than normal then they need to be checked and addressed each time out. I put boots on my rear shocks but don’t ask Icon for any help finding what size is needed. After asking three shops about boots and part numbers it seemed like a Benny Hill episode, never got the part number.

 

I had inquired about learning how to rebuild shocks and was told that it was a strange thing I wanted to do for retirement. Needless to say no more information on when and how to get into learning to rebuild these. Getting answers lately is like pulling teeth from a chicken. Thanks for the post

 

I really wish I knew better back when I purchased and I would have went the King path. I even put the best Icon on my wife’s new 4Runner. Teach me to be loyal when it is a one way street

 

I’ve heard the same about Icon from many people. Repeatedly these folks get their shocks rebuilt and they end up leaking again. Seems if they don’t leak, you’re just one of the lucky ones. Even if they come through and rebuild them under warranty, you’re still paying or going through the labor of installation. Then just worrying that they’ll leak again.

 

The seal system they use just doesn't hold up. That's the main problem.

 

I've never had issues with my Foxes. I'm sure King is worth the hype but I feel as though Fox is underrated. I don't see Toyota putting Kings on the Pros though

 

Fox shocks FYI, we don't work on Icon stuff.

 

That is good advice. The shocks are already off the truck. I found someone to do them locally. My next step is to acquire the know how and tools to do it my self. I'm not in the position to take on another project time wise right now. Thanks for the links!
