@Silver23 would love to see pics once yours is installed. I'm [still] deciding on the kit. One thing that I realized is bugging me is the mpg loss with bigger, heavier tires. If I install this lift, I am considering 34s (275/65/20) since I can get them in non-E load and therefore much less weight...to try to minimize the mpg loss (I realize with the lift and bigger tires there will be some anyway). I do wonder how they will look since it seems like most folks going with 35s on this kit.

Man I am wasting waaaaay to many brain cells on thinking about this stuff and what I want to do lol.

Toyota recommends no larger than 285 65 20. Just curious why go 275 instead of 285? My kit goes on next week and trying to figure out what tires to put on

I bought my truck on 16Dec22 and have been thinking about this lift since I bought it. My main concern was making sure it would still fit in my garage. Right now, I only have about 5.5 inches of clearance between the sharkfin antenna and the top of the garage entrance. That's another reason I decided to go with a 34inch tire (LT275/65/20 Toyo AT III) which I'm getting them installed on Monday. Spoke to my dealer yesterday, they are installing their first TRD lift this week. Hopefully they're more comfortable with the installation process when my truck goes in.

At 275 you can still get standard load tires. As far as I can tell, once you bump up to 285s or above (with 20” rims) you have to go to E load, which adds at least 10lbs per tire.

Which tires do you see with a D load in the 275’s? All I see is E loads

Here's one example (maybe the only one): I'm not sure what Standard Load means in relation to D load, but at 47lbs they weigh the same as the stock Bridgestones (I think) on my 1794.

Did anyone do a regear of their transmission to accommodate the added weight/size of the tire?

Here is my rig w/ 285/65R20 Maxxis Razrs on the OEM lift. I do get a bit of rub on the sway bar at full steering engagement. Very minimal but because of it I am considering a 1" spacer.

man that looks good. 285/65/20 (34.59") is only about .5" taller than 275/65/20 (34.07"). I can't imagine the slightly smaller size would be that noticeable if I decided to do that.

Ok, another question if anyone knows. What does highest setting and middle setting mean? Is the height adjustable on this kit?

@jhtram I am surprised you are getting some minimal scrub I have the same size tires but BFKO2’s and I have zero scrubbing even at full lock.

Me too. Curious, did you have the sway bar installed with the spacers (so it sits below the skid)?

@RJ29 Great looking truck! I have a similar truck hitting the lot in a couple weeks. The dealer already has the TRD lift waiting. Trying to finalize the wheel and tire order now. At +18 offset, how much do your tires "poke" out the side? I am looking for flush or minimal poke. It looks like the stock platinum wheels sit a little inside the fender, without using a spacer. Thanks

Thanks! stocks were too sucked in for me, and I believe the 35’s would rub without a spacer. +18 offset does have some poke.

Same. Very odd that mine rubs. I'll see if I can snap a pic or two of the sway bar and post it. Maybe we can tell what's different.

Just commented back on this thread about a similar variance: https://www.tundras.com/threads/2023-tundra-1794-w-trd-package-lift-tires-question.121432/

@Part-Time Hooker has the same trim as me, 1794 OR, got the TRD Lift Kit, but apparently got sway bar rub with 35x12.5 Nitto Ridge Grappler and dropped down to 285s.

I have the same lift/truck and did 35x12.5 Nitto RGs and no sway bar rub (very slight rub on mud flap, but don't want to remove them so going to trim)

Just seems odd...maybe something being done by the dealer at install when they notice it?

For the sway bar rub, you could ask to have the wheel set back in the wheel well a bit more with caster. There’s room to play on the alignment +/- just a suggestion, I haven’t done mine yet so I’ll see what hurdles come my way.

Hi guys! I wanted to share an update re my TRD lift kit sway bar spacers and end links that I did not have installed when the rest of the kit went in.

My thinking was that I wanted the sway bar under the TRD skidplate for protection. Toyota should have designed it better so that those would fit.

I was happy to have the clean look under the skidplate, however I became aware that this limits the geometry and full articulation of the front coilover.

Since the install I’ve been struck by how harsh the suspension was running, I was required to really lower my tire PSI. I returned to my dealer for the suspension check-up and re-torque they had promised, and they very generously agreed to install the kit’s sway bar spacer and end links as part of the original install cost.

They ordered some additional bolts (not sure yet of part number) for optimal fitment. They provided me with a loaded 1794 as a loaner while this was being done, very nice to compare trims.

Yesterday I picked up my TRD OR and my first impressions were that I have no problems with the sway bar outside the TRD skidplate. Invisible unless you’re under the vehicle. The positioning looks far more natural. I should have had it installed this way from the get-go.

The ride is *significantly improved* even with much higher tire pressure. So this is the way it is supposed to feel!! I do NOT recommend keeping your stock sway bar spacers and end links in order to retain your sway bar under the TRD skidplate.

I suggest either using spacers to drop the skid below the sway bar, or go this route running the sway bar over the skidplate. I want to thank all of you on this thread for your help, @KroppDuster you really helped me understand the impact of retaining the stock sway bar spacer and end links: thank you! Also my dealership and the master tech have been amazing re this process.

I am very happy with the setup now. Next change is installation of OME 2866 variable rear coil spring replacing the spacer (Toyota cheaped out on that IMHO). Congrats to all of you who recently had the lift kit installed, looking great! Cheers, Taiko

So I assume the sway bar has to be removed every time the oil is changed, correct? Since the skid plate has to come off

I believe you’re right cvd2312, definitely a PITA and not the optimal way to change oil and filter by a long shot. I may look into dropping the skidplate instead to avoid that in the future.

I will say that my dealership was able to set things up in this way because everything is OEM. I asked about skidplate spacers but Toyota doesn’t officially make them for this application (at least to my knowledge).

I could potentially find some and bring them in and request they be done in this way, I don’t know what they’d say re how that might impact the lift kit warranty that is in effect.

I don’t think the dealership will have any problem removing the sway bar and skidplate when changing my oil (just had it changed yesterday so it will be a while).

If I don’t change it there however, it would definitely cost extra for that additional labor, with chance of error or damage (even if I do it carefully myself, but that would take me a good while as it’s definitely a pain (for me) to remove and replace all of those components).

Agreed and surprised for that I live in New England and they quoted me the same roughly 15~20hrs.labor @ 3k to put it in,not crazy about the price but 3yr warranty with dealership installation it should be done right but if anything goes wrong they'll eat it.
I think we're paying to much for these compared to a few years ago.

I placed a build in the beginning of February God only knows when she'll get here.

Just found a dealer about 4 hours away offering 30% off the parts and charging $1500 for installation. All in would be around $4300. Now to find a time when I can get over there for 2-3 days.

No need to drop the sway bar for the TRD skid plate. You loosen the two bolts Inthe front and the plate slides out.

This is some good feedback. I had the TRD lift installed as intended with the swar bar under the skid plate. I thought about doing what many decided to do. Kinda glad I didn’t and left it as is. My truck has always been smooth and feels great with the lift. I have over 5-6k on my truck since the install.

I am considering this lift, but does anyone have an actual side by side of the axle to confirm it is longer?
