Carrier bearing drop needed?

Hey, I recently lifted to back of my 01 tundra by about 2.5 inches and am noticing mild driveline vibration while decelerating. Do you think a carrier bearing drop kit would help? I’ve searched but can only seem to find them for 05+ tundras.

ok, upon further research it also appears that I need a driveline spacer. Apparently no one makes it for first gens but a 1992 4Runner driveline spacer will work.

Either that or the center section is no longer aligned. What lift method did you use?

to clarify center section, I’m referring to the pinion angle.

 

It doesnt say if you have a 4x4, but if so, have you greased the driveshaft?

gotcha, I used a 1 inch block as well as an extra leaf for my Deaver pack.

W/4WD, if you haven't greased all zerks up and down your driveline in the last 1-2 years or 5-10k miles, I'd address that first and foremost. If you need more info, LMK and I can link you to it. I think it's also linked from the info purge thread.

 

Here's some takeaway from that video:

You want the angles of the shaft coming out of the diff and the trans/transfer case to be the same. The diff and trns/transfer case should would be at the same angle to accomplish that. And you want the angle under 10 degrees.

It easier with one piece drive shaft, with a 2 piece, its still ideal to have the angles the same at each end, but to do this the diff and trans/t case could be on different planes.

Per my driveline guy, you don't want a 2 piece driveshaft perfectly lined up straight. U- joints work better with some angle in there. Thats what he said, but it makes sense if you have a straight spinning shaft with a break. It's constantly looking for a place to not be straight at the joint as it spins. Keep some angle at the center and you give it that place, potentially reducing vibration.

If straight was the ideal, it would be a one piece shaft, with a longer single section of spin. And easier to whack out of balance. Driveline distance and ground clearance and reducing the length of any one shaft seem to be the driving forces for the designs.
