Right I meant $1200 us is $1600 cdn.
So the quote the guy got for the Tundra head light seems low at $1200 cdn.

those are cam shafts, the pistons appear to still be in the engine. Putting something heavy on top of them is pretty normal, I've done it when I rebuilt the engines in my Miata and S2000 a few years ago. Stops them from rolling away and falling since they're pretty heavy on their own.

Crankshafts are balanced by the large balance weight in the front of the photo. Takes a big weight on v6s since they're inherently unbalanced.

These engines aren't reassembled by the beginner oil techs, they'l have a Toyota or Lexus master tech putting them back together, and they'll go through a few rounds of QA testing before they're put back in the car. Depending on the specific issue, the master tech will have to upload photos of certain spots before the engine is completely reassembled.

Even HID headlights are far less expensive than LED.
Like halogen, HID headlights can have the lamp removed, and additionally the ballast is removable, so if it's just the housing that's busted, you can reuse the lamp and ballast, saving several hundred dollars.
Most LED headlights I've seen are completely integrated, so simply busting a lens or mounting tab means a big bill.
Also, now that LED DRL/running lights have been out a while, I've seen newer vehicles with a LED DRL out, meaning just to fix that is an entire headlight assembly, no replaceable parts.....

I've fixed broken tabs and even cracked bumpers with a cheap stapler welder like:

Anyhow, expensive unserviceable parts that drive the owner towards buying a new car, not fixing old one, makes me outrageous.

Cab off repairs are probably going to be the norm for most makes going forward. Started with diesel trucks, and how is being applied to 1/2 tons.

Manufacturers probably figured out that they actually pay less book labor time for warranty work, and get better repairs if they design cabs to be easy to lift off. Now the mechanic/tech has easy access to get work done, so it should be more likely to be done correctly.

No you were right, this was a similar picture taken at a different angle. Every relationship has a reacher and a settler they say. Which one does that make Hagrid?

Guys! My 2022 tundra 1794 edition with 8k miles just died. Same problems as like the one HBV2017 is reporting. I’m sad and frustrated. I’m also leasing it.

Sorry to hear this Ephraim. What happened? Were you on a long trip and can we ask the build date of your truck?

No long trips with it ever. Never off roading with it. Only use it for daily driving to work (13 miles). Yesterday afternoon I was driving home from work and the car was shaking on the freeway. I made it home safely and parked it. 2 hours passed and when I wanted to run an errand the truck wouldn’t turn on. This morning I had it towed to my dealer and is pending a diagnosis.

Glad you made it home safely. When you went to start it to run your errand did the engine turnover and not start or no dash lights and nothing happened when you pushed the start button?

I was snooping around in the ClubLexus forum the other day and there was a guy with a 2018 LS500 that had his TTv6 engine replaced 2 times. I’ll search for the link and post.I think things have been going on for a while with this motor.

I have a thread going on engine failures/problems. If/when confirmed, please copy and paste the information in the first post and inform us what kind of use the truck seen.

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/3-4-i-force-engine-failures.121107/

To get as much information as possible if known:

    -Mileage that problem/failure happened:

    -What actually happened:

    -Vehicle usage (towing/off-roading/pavement pounder):

    -Vehicle modifications (tune/geared/tires):

This is a good idea. Do you think it would be helpful to track build dates also on your thead? First to see if it ends up being a certain batch of engines around a certain time. Second to track if it stops after a certain build date or continues into 2023 builds.

I'm really hoping this isn't a trend and would like to see owners drive their 3rd gens 300k without many issues.
