3rd Gen Suspension Lift - MEGA THREAD

Reading this while watching motorcycle suspension vids was a good help lol. Thanks for this.

 

Just curious if anybody here has any experience with these. Looking to install these in the rear with the kings and TC setup if they’d be compatible on 22 tundra Trd OR CM with stock load. Or go with ARB2866 progressives for the rear?

 

Does the Trd Pro use a different rear spring? I know the front is 1.1” higher over stock but what about the rear? Thanks

 

I am a little new to this so let me know if I am overthinking it but wouldn't the drop for a 70 lbs diamond back be ~1/8" of an inch since technically you have two 250lb springs sharing the load in the rear? 70/500 lbs = roughly 1/8"? Or does the 250lb spring rate contemplate two springs already?

 

It uses the Fox springs but Toyota claims no additional lift.

 

correct, no change in rear height on the TRD pro, only the front is lifted 1.1in

 

You know...this is a solid question, and you're quite right. I guess the coffee hadn't kicked in when I posted that at 7:50am. lol. A 220/lb spring, as an example, would have a parallel spring rate of 440/lbs when used on the same axle.

To your point, the drop would be an 1/8" vs 1/4".

 

Excellent. One less thing to install. So one just need the two front coil and two rear shock. I just scored four shock, two rear spring and uca. Someone said in another reply uca is same.

 

Also curious about these. The bigger question, is it ok to run these with approximately 2" of lift with King or Icon rear shocks that are only advertised to support UP TO 1" of rear lift?
I need to order taller springs yesterday, but the only rear shocks that support over 1" of lift are the Dobinsons and I plan to do either an Icon 3.0 or King kit front and rear.

 

Hey guys, I have a 1794 4wd without the trd OR package. I was interested in the Icon stage 1 until I saw this. Anyone running these with the black cv? Do I need the icon diff drop or longer cv even tho it's not going 3in?

I was also looking at the RC 2” N3 loaded strut. Would I also need the longer cv on those?? These are cheap so interested in them just for temporary lift.
Why doesnt the westcott one need the trd axles even though they go 3in?

I haven't really done any offroading but looking to start easy like just light trails and what not.

 

I’m running the N3 loaded struts. They’re pretty nice, ride feels stock. Not an off-road setup, but great for light trails etc. plus they’re super affordable. My truck had the black hitachi struts, no issues. Check some of my posts above, that question was addressed.

 

I saw your post asking about when to get longer axles and the answer i see is when you change out the uca.
The Icon stage 1 doesn't change out the uca and I think only 2.25 lift. That note says i would need the trd axles so i'm wondering if anyone is running the stage 1 with no trd package with the black cv. The stage 1 is what i'm really interested in but If i really do need longer axles, then i might just go for the n3 loaded struts.

 

You won’t need anything more then the stage 1 icon kit, no need to change UCA or axles

 

so i should be fine with the black axles right? cuz mine doesn't have the trd offroad package.
I called icon earlier asking if I really need the diff drop or the trd axles for the stage 1 but the lady just read the note and looked for the icon diff drop. Looks like that note is on the other stages also.

 

Yes stage 1 is more or less a stock replacement thst levels the truck. I don’t think the 3rd gen needs the diffy drop, I’m just going off most YT videos out there on install.

 

I got my parts ready to go.

I went Elka 2.0 in the front preset 2.75” to see how the rake is with 2” rear springs, I wanted 2.5 but it comes down to total cost for the lift plus the truck

dobinsons IMS for the rear because they were only $200 more then the 2.0 Elkas but much cheaper then the 2.5 Elka that’s why I mixed and matched shocks

got the TRD lift UCA it’s a good price and nice OEM part, I would have loved TC but it’s priced out for me


I originally wanted to go with the TRD 3” lift so I’m using that 3” front 2” rear as a baseline. I like to have an adjustable front end for rake and a spring not a spacer in the rear so that’s how I came up with this setup. I have OME 2866 springs and ICON bump stops front/rear, my total cost in parts is $3900cnd

 

yeh, that's what I was thinking but I wasn't sure, thought i should ask here. Its more than likely temporary till I figure out what I'm going to do. I just need some clearance for my 35s. I don't wanna do westcott and the icon stage 1 caught my eye.

I have a Trd oem lift, my buddy has a Wescott 3/1. His has the AVS, mine does not. Mine sits noticeably higher in person. He’s running 20x9 on toyo rt 35 and I’m running 18x9 toyo at3 35

look at roof lines and side mirrors.

 

Makes sense. The front is close but the rear is quite noticeable. The TRD kit changes the front springs to a slightly heavier spring. The WD lift is a basically a leveling kit. The TRD lift still leaves a rake for payload in the rear. That’s why the TRD lift uses a 2” spacer in the rear. The WD is only a 1” spacer in the rear.

Were you able to compare ride quality between your truck and his? Very curious.

Secondly, I was researching and almost had the same conclusion as to a good aftermarket setup with Elka. Is there a reason you didn't purchase the lower knuckles from the TRD lift kit?

 

my ride is great! Steering is stiffer than stock (which I like) I got load d tires specifically to help with the ride too. It’s a truck at the end of the day but the TRD kit feels considerably better to me than the westcott. NOT saying anything negative about their lift or design. I just personally prefer the trd kit.

I’ve had a lot of modified vehicles. I wanted to keep as close to oem or oem supported as possible. The trd kit just fit what I wanted to accomplish. Doesn’t make it the perfect ‘one all’ kit. Just checked a lot of boxes for ME.

 

If your buddy is AVS/air ride truck. AVS with Westcott lift is only 2 inch front and 7/8" rear according to westcott. The rear is not a spacer, just a adjustment arm cause airbag. That's why it's lower.

 

With all the suspension lifts and aftermarket wheels in this thread, has anyone successfully had oem TPMS sensors reprogrammed anywhere other than a dealership?

Anyone use OME 2863s and have a slight pogo effect when coming to a stop? Truck feels like it bounces slightly when coming to a stop.
Not sure if my ICON shocks are the issue.
I have a pair of 2866 OME coils I might try, but I prefer the height the 2863 provides.

 

How much weight do you have in the back? It's a heavy spring rate & a constant rate spring to boot. Heavy spring + no weight = Pogo Bounce.

Also...what rear shocks are you running? The right shocks will help control the recoil.
