Pulled the skid plate and plastic covers that go on the side and scrubbed em down with soapy water and a scrub brush. Broke off one screw, going to have to drill that one out.

Now to decide whether to repaint this.

Thank you I just ordered this and will report back when I get it and use it. I also switched the grill to a different grill as well. That’s for the information about the restoring of the trim

I guess I have never really given it any thought, but what exactly does that piece of foam thing do on the skid plate? The first time doing an oil change I thought the previous owner had left it here to soak up some sort of leak, but then I realized it belonged on the plate and haven't thought about it since. Any answers?

I think it tucks up to the radiator to kinda seal the air flow, and making it go thru the rad Vs under or over it(there’s one up top too)

It's not that expensive to buy new, but if you get some Rustoleum "satin" outdoor spray paint (link) it matches the factory look perfectly and you can lay it over rusty stuff if you really want. This is the stuff I've been using on frames for 15-20 years now.

I got a rusty as hell, soil-packed, weeds growing in it, surface rusty skid plate from one of the later-gen guys in my area, and hit it with that. This was the result, and it still looks like this after being outdoor in the rain and sleet of ATL winters: https://www.tundras.com/threads/wha...-gen-tundra-today.2558/page-1440#post-2918238

And you don't want to look up what Toyota charges for that block of foam

Saw a bottle of Mr. Pink in the returns warehouse of the large women jungle @ 1/2 price. Bought it. When it arrives it will sit about uninstalled in the foam cannon, which will not be washing any vehicles for awhile. it's still winter in the new Englands.

All the talk earlier about lubricating stuff reminded me to add some other product to my cart (Not Franks R.H.) that won't go unused.

Got out this weekend and finally wired up the winch (I’d been waiting on the solenoid relocation kit forever.) The main power cable was a little too short to route cleanly, so it’s just draped in the engine bay until I can find an extended one. Threw on a Factor 55 Flatlink for good measure.

Also installed a TRD grille. Was a little hesitant to replace the one I had color matched during the repaint, but really like the way it came out. Got a tri-color heritage badge in a gold colorway to complement the wheels.

A trans drain and fill isn't a bad idea but hard shift from 1 to 2 in 4Lo is normal. Theres just so much load when switching gears that's how it works.

The skid plat on my 2000 is fiberglass. Now that it’s 22 years old it sheds some fibers when removing and makes my arms itch. I wonder if I could spray it with something to lock in the glass fibers

Had a can on the way already and planned to paint it, but it kept getting delayed, so I threw the skid plate in the bed. Yesterday I dropped the truck off with a local Cruiserhead who's going to do the timing belt and water pump (has worked on a lot of 4.7s because of the 100-series LC -- actually had an Aisin TB kit on the shelf), and will also throw new LBJs on. While she's opened up -- and yes I have read this thread -- I wonder if there's a definitive list of what else would be good to knock out? Upper and lower rad hoses look and feel great. Thinking t-stat and gasket, serpentine belt, spark plugs, belt tensioner pulley.....what am I missing?

    How many miles again?

Just make sure the LBJ are OEM, and it's not ideal to re-use bolts. Unless you like seeing your wheel stuffed up into your fender or laying horizontal.

Yes, definitely will do on the OEM parts. I need to remind him about the bolts. Just hit 43,000 miles on the way to drop it off for the TB. Was an older gentleman's hunting/fishing vehicle.

Can't wait to get it back and try out your paint correction advice! Definitely metallic paint. My fear is that it's the two-stage you mentioned and the clear's gone in those spots, but will definitely report back once she's had the major mechanical items sorted -- my first priority.

Man I am glad to hear you say that. I have never had an auto transmission 4WD vehicle, so just assumed it was something wrong. Really appreciate the feedback, love this site!

Just got her back from the shop with new set of BFG K02s. 285/70/17. Leveled the front and had to throw on some 1.25" spacers due to tires rubbing against the upper control arms.

Thanks man! That’s an Addicted Offroad bumper that I had painted to match the truck. I really like the design - it’s beefy enough to be functional, but slim enough that it doesn’t look like overkill on a smaller sized truck. It was definitely worth the wait.

Although isnt that the company that wouldnt send you the bumper as a kit, and also didnt leave the light mount tabs unwelded for you to do yourself? Thats kinda lame. But the bumper is still amazing.

Funny how a company not willing to help out a customer when its no extra work on their part ends up creating negative talk about them in the end. Probably couldve been more acommodating to you

I wasn’t a fan of the plate style, no one makes a “great” looking FB for our trucks. I wasn’t a fan of coastal after I did the rear from them. I settled on to tacticool tubular from them(addicted) And binford5k it.

Sucked it up and dropped her off at the local shop for a remote start in the morning. With the Jeep in the garage it will be nice to have it in the winter since it sits outside most days. And my wife/in-laws went in to give me birthday money for it so I figured now is the best time.

Thanks for clarifying that - I was totally lost.

Overall my experience with Addicted was painless, but I can understand the frustration if you couldn’t get it the way you wanted it. My fabrication skills… don’t exist, so I was just buying off the rack.
