Front CV Axle Recommendations

I purchased the CVs and other parts through Toyota's online store, https://parts.toyota.com/. The Toyota dealer that's a few miles from us is a large, high-volume operation but doesn't participate in the discount program. There's smaller dealer about 20 miles away that does. They had the parts ready to pick up in 24 hours. I picked up the parts there, drove back and returned the cores without any problem.

If you go online, put a part in your basket and enter your zip code it will give you the suggested retail along with a choice of the closest participating dealers. Pick a dealer and you'll see the discounted price as well as in-person pick-up or shipping options (free shipping for orders over $75). I tried all three dealers they listed and all offered the same discount but YMMV.

 

Yup, this is what I do also. They usually give me the three closest choices. I click one, check the price, tap the BACK button in my browser, click the next option, check the price, then rinse/repeat until I find the best price nearby.

 

I did this also. I was lucky and found a dealer that was not listed in the Toyota parts online store that is local to me had them 10 dollars cheaper than any of the ones listed. I guess not all dealers participate in the online purchase.
Strange thing is they do take orders online from their dealership site. But it’s cheaper than if you go in the dealer and try and buy over the counter. So I picked out my parts and selected pickup option. Again this is through the dealers site not the Toyota parts site and again just lucky I had a local dealer that cost less.

 

Yup - I've found this also. Some dealers, like McGeorge (IIRC) have TWO parts websites. One is linked to the Toyota dealership network (here). The other looks similar to the Toyota Parts site (here), but each side has a different discount

Then there's like a third site that doesn't even look legit (here), the 800 number is all zeroes

Confusing, but legit. I phoned them one day (it WAS a bitch to find their number) and they said the phone was zeroed out because they don't want to talk. I always send an email with my questions, and they are very responsive that way.

 

I saw one member who clearly got remans from a rust belt truck. The shafts were cottage-cheese textured. I'm actually surprised they re-used them, I guess it all depends on where the cores come from as to what you get...

 

I have mine in the garage that I took off when I added my RCV’s. I was not having any issues but was concerned with a front locker and 5.29’s on 35”. So far no problems

 

On a 2000-2006 Tundra, or your 2018?

 

2018, I was reading through here following. I have had a 1st Gen, 2nd Gen and my current 2.5 Gen and have had no issue with boots until I bought the RCV’s. That so far has been a journey.

Go ahead, boot me out because I do not currently have my 1st Gen LOL

 

No interest in ejection. I'm only asking so we can have a better understanding of how to relate your experience.

I try to keep dibs on folks on here who are multi-gen owners. I'll always ask, since the info isn't always offered up w/o asking

 

So I was able to get everything in. Have about 100 miles on everything.

The above picture is from the front passenger side. Last dif service was about 3k ago before the cv replacement 100 miles ago

 

That looks like it's probably the axle seal, it could've gotten damaged during CV installation. Especially since it only started to happen after the CV replacement.

 

What is this part called in the Toyota talk.

It’s side specific, and make sure you lube the inner part of the seal before jamming your axle stub back in

 

I think 90311-47013 is the seal for passenger side.

 

dude thanks ! I see on Amazon it says a lot of people buy this part number with that part number.
I know those can be random suggestions but should I be looking at this number also ? Just wondering.
The above part number does look right for my issue. But I’ll be in there.

Be careful to not tap the seal in too far, otherwise your problem will likely persist. Additionally, it may help to throw the seal in the freezer for an hour or so before you install so it goes in easier.

 

This! This seal install sucks you need to measure exactly how deep to drive this seal in not too little and not too far. There's nothing that "sets" it in place

 

I just bought one on eBay from a guy that has 1 left. His must be a little older because they are made in Japan and I see that the new ones are made in Vietnam.

I'm lucky if they sell for list at the three dealers by me. Usually over list so I rarely buy from them.

Even if it comes in authentic-looking packaging, it's likely a counterfeit. Same thing plaguing WallyMart and scAmazon right now. I bought a couple of Nintendo Switch Pro controllers two weeks ago for the kids. Packaging looks so freaking legit looking. But I weighed them compared to the exact same store-bought controller I already had and they loved so much ... the fleaBay ones have a couple of flaws: They weigh 10% less, the battery doesn't have the Nintendo seal on it, and the font is different looking on one of the buttons.

Likewise, people have experienced the same with spark plugs, frequently. One guy even called up NGK and rattled off the lot number, NGK's response was, "Yeah ... sorry, we don't even have that lot number for your region, there's no way it's legitimate".

I've had it happen with appliance parts, twice now, ordering replacement parts for my Electrolux-made Frigidaire refrigerator. Parts came white-boxed, not in the OEM packaging. So I returned and ordered from an actual appliance repair place, totally different part.

fleaBay and scAmazon, and even WallyMart and Sears these days, they don't vert their merchandise. There is no reasonable way for them to do it. Half of it is coming from private-party sellers in China - last report I looked at showed half the sellers on scAmazon (63%) are based in China and fulfill either through Amazon's warehouses, or through a regional depot they setup, usually in a port city on the left or right coast.

You do you ... but you have resources available to buy the parts directly versus needing to resort to one of these counterfeit havens.

 

I hate resurrecting an old thread but since I can't find remans anywhere and don't want to pay big $$$ for new OEM axles I gotta ask.
I am thinking of getting Napa cv axels. I have the Bilstein 6112 coilovers set up to the highest clip for 2" lift, so do I need the long travel axels or will the regular ones do it?

 

The regular ones will do it.

 

Brother you will prob be fine. But get the longer sway bar links. Mine made all kinds of squeaks till I got them. Maxxlinks worked for me.
