As @Tundra234 stated, it's all for looks not functional at all.
Just like the OEM hood scoops that are nothing but a decoration..

I like the looks of that light bar in the buldge, however I would be nervous to cut all that support out of the hood.

I have 3 - 3” holes in mine I drilled to install the sdhq light bar mount in there. Just drove it to colorado and back 100mph, some offroad, lot of snow and ice and freezing rain, and no issues. Also no benefit other than the light bar

Do you mind sharing photos of where you put the holes on the hood? Do you have a light bar installed on the hood bulge?

Hood bulge on my 2017 popped out for the first time today. Not sure if it was the super cold weather, high winds overnight or what. All the bottom clips were broken and pulled off the chrome piece so i didn't lose it on the drive home today.

Did some searching at lunch today, but didn't find much of anything. Are there any aftermarket options? A few non-name brands showed up on Scamazon. Would love to dump the chrome one and since I need a new one anyway, do any of the other OEM colors match the sky gray body color?

Did you remove any bolts to take it off? If not, then your bolt mounts are broken and you would have to replace the bulge anyway. A few years ago there was an issue with them popping loose. Toyota remedied that by upgrading to different clips. As far as a replacement, I would go with the OEM color matched. They run about $220 or so. Most people get theirs from SparksParts or order through their dealer and price match. I'm guessing your truck is Sky Silver?

No bolts removed. Looks like they were broken before I removed the bulge since it came off way too easy and there was dirt on the plastic pieces left inside the hood. Could not see any clean sections on the remaining plastic.

    Confirmed Silver Sky Metallic.

Now I've gone down a research rabbit hole and looking at doing the bulge, surround and grille! I've already "de-chromed" the interior with AJT Design's chrome delete kit (with original Toyota emblem overlay) and shift knob. Need to get the door handle covers, too.

De-chroming is an incredibly satisfying experience. "Look how good this truck looks when the F150 carryover aesthetics are removed!"
