Digital instrument cluster screen went black

Same for me, fully battery reset didn't alleviate the issue which presented on multiple occasions. Glad they are working to resolve. Only owned my truck for 3 months and less than 3,500 miles so far less than 2,000 cycles for me.

 

Can they really take possession of a truck like that? There is nothing in that cluster that I probably can’t figure out with Waze running for speed and live stats on an obd2 connector

 

Something tells me Waze isn't NHTSA approved in place of a speedometer.

 

2023 1794 hybrid at 2350 miles and it’s out. Maybe when I leave at work it will be back on. With the stop of sale I will see if I can sell it at a profit

 

I’m here to join the party. It is pretty frustrating to have a brand new dash cluster go out on you. It’s a safety and regulatory issue not being able to see my speed. Turned it on and it was completely black. At Toyota now getting them to inspect and run diagnostics. They are trying to contact Toyota now. We will see… I don’t have high hopes of a deeper issue. I’ll report back.

 

Went out for lunch 4 hours later and the cluster lit up like a champ. Hope it does not happen again.

 

686 miles...took possession in Dec. First time this morning — all black. I have a HUD so I could drive safely... im letting it sit all day at work and will update. **eye roll**

 

I’m curious if this is mostly 23 owners and mostly hybrid owners. Knock on wood and I shouldn’t post this, but I have 24,000 on my 22 Platinum non hybrid and thank god that hasn’t happened yet

Started right up after sitting for a few hours. Hopefully a one time thing.

 

My TRD pro crapped out tonight. Tried multiple restarts.

Knowing they keep the truck until they fix is is disheartening. They did the same thing at the Dodge dealer when they were fixing my Challenger back in 2021. They had a for two months and gave me a loaner.


I will say though give me a respect for the Town and Country minivan... That thing is pretty sick, even coming from a muscle car guy

That said I made just hold on to the truck for now if they're quarantining.

 

My 2022, non hybrid 1794 has not had this issue. I bought the truck in October of 2022 and only have 3K on the clock so far, but as of yet I have not had this issue.

 

Just got word that my 23 platinum that was scheduled for Jan19th has a new eta of Mar 10.

 

I wonder if they can really quaranteen the vehicle like that. If they demand to do that, I would demand a supra while my truck is being fixed!

 

My 14” has done it once, went white. Shut off turned on and back to normal. Like it glitched and would not come completely on… odd ‘23 Pro, 1k miles. Wonder if tied to cluster some how

 

I feel for all you guys having this problem. Im certain Toyota will take care of everything.

Today my dealer had two beautiful TSS models on the lot and I want to pull the trigger but threads like this just make me hesitant.

I guess Toyota spoiled me from 2005, my first Tundra to my current 2021 Tundra, they have all been bullet proof, I guess small problems like this shouldn't bother me but Toyota ruined me by never leaving me stranded and never leaving me with any warranty claims.

I just expect perfection since that's all I've known from all my tundras.

 

I'm going from a 2013 Tacoma that I am perfectly happy with. Like you said, never left you stranded. Thats big right there.
Its the exact reason why I ordered a Tundra. (waiting on it) 1 year blues for the 2022's stinks (happens to ALL vehicles to a certain extent.) Some major and some minor.
2023 should be better with fixes. I expect a minor hiccup or two. As long as it runs and gets me to the destnation is all the matters.


The engine toyota has been using for years in the Lexus.
Just would be the first turbo car I ever owned. Sort of why I respect the 2021's and before (N.A. v8)
V8's were good motors but they do have a leak problem with the camtowers.
Youtube video of a guy doing the job was good but WOW that was a job for an average car guy.
(Think he is a toyota tech no less too.)

 

Joining the party.. cluster was off this morning (2023 1794 Edition). I made an appointment at the dealer but I'm not expecting them to be able to do anything based on this thread. I just want it documented in their system. Has anyone heard any updates on the bug fix?

 

I can’t see the mileage to record it lol. But add me to the list of blacked out display. 2023 Platinum. Somewhere around 3400kms I think… took possession Dec 30

I don’t know what Toyota did different but I never heard of this till lately. I have a 22 Platinum with 25k on her and it never went blank. It seems this is happening a ton with the 23’s

 

probably newer software bug is my guess

 

To know your speed when blacked out, use your Android phone - Google Maps, set a destination (any destination, not necessarily where you are really headed) and you'll see two signs lower left, one is speed limit for current road you are on and the other would be your speed +-2mph.


Not sure what you iPhone users use.

 

Good advice ryanwgregg, thank you. I noted the mileage (1,800) and cancelled my appointment with the dealer. Just like everyone else, my display was fine later in the same day.

Do you happen to know if the eventual software update will be pushed to me or will I have to take the truck to the dealer?

 

that would be a dealer ECU update, not OTA

 

I have a 23 tundra platinum with 869 miles and the digital instrument screen just went black this morning at the gas station. I drove home and stopped the truck. I returned after 15 mins to start the engine, and the screen came back on. I hope it doesn’t happen again

 

Got a message from my sales person that my 23 platinum that was suppose to be delivered the 19th of Jan is ready for me to do paperwork and get tomorrow... I'll try and keep yall up to date
