I test mounted just the rim and was only able to get about 5-6 turns by hand is why I asked. What is your suspension set up? I’m mounting my wheels tomorrow on 35’s. I already did a bmc and bumper shims. Curious if I’m gonna have to mold/cut the front plastic too.

I’m running about 3.5 inches of lift up front and 1.5 in the back using icon/deaver setup. The front liner was cut years ago when I did a level. I was previously running a 20x9.5 6 offset wheel on 35x11.50r20 and had no rubbing. With this setup, 17x9 0 offset on 35x12.50r17 K02 I have rubbing on the body mount at full lock. I’m going to need a BMC.

Just a curious question what is the deciding factor from going from 20’s to 17’s. Instead of staying with factory size wheel. Or was it because of the wheel they only make it in a 17? I understand why some want the bigger wheel. Just like on my corvette guys run different size wheel. I know the Stryker wheel on that web site are very nice but only come in 17’s.

I wanted to change the look on it. I think their designs give their wheels an appearance of a larger size even though they’re 17s. I’m also noticing a smoother ride with more rubber on the wheel. But yeah, that’s a drastic change going from 20s to 17. Call me crazy but I’ve also noticed almost 2 mpg increase with the new setup even though both were on 35s. My 20” wheels must have been really heavy compared to now.

Yeah I agree on the weight of the wheel John. They look good but curious your reasoning behind the change. And I assume you would not be doing it if the 17’s did not clear the brake rotors. So with the 35’s what gas mileage we’re you getting? Thanks Don.

I knew they were going to clear the brakes. I was more worried about the positioning of the weights when they were balanced. It was the first thing I checked when I picked it up from the shop. I’m getting about 14mpg now.

I bought some cheaper Dorman lugs to use on steel wheels from an 07 fitted with winter ice tires. The Dorman chart for torque specs says 2007-2010 is 97 ft/lbs and that steel wheels 2010 onwards are 154 ft/lbs.
on steel wheels. Anyone with a final word on the correct torque? thanks in advance.

Hi fellow Tundra people. I have a bone stock 2018 Tundra, ready to replace tires. What is the tallest and/or widest tire I can go without needing to trim anything? I would prefer not to trim, but I am open to a leveling kit or a slight lift to clear the tires. Please help, I am driving my wife's car while I do my research. I know, I know, I should have been researching sooner. Oh well. What can anyone tell me that will help me decide.

Start on page 1 of this thread. If you keep the stock limited rims you can go as big at 33.5 without rub. I have a stock limited with 285 60 r20. If I did it again I would get 295 55 r20 to get a little more width. The extra height isn't that noticeable. Improved from stock but not lust worthy.

I should also note I have Michelin Defenders, I tow and prioritize highway performance and hydroplaning resistance. A more aggressive sidewall would enhance the curb appeal for sure.

Thanks for the quick response. Yeah, I read some, but I haven't found what suits me. I'm okay if I don't go wider, taller is a plus. What I really want is a larger profile/sidewall. I had an '84 Toyota that had 8" of sidewall (great for off-road) and I would like to find something that gets me closer to that.

Has anyone ran 275/55/r20’s on a 2 inch level first gen? I’m wanting to run that size without major rubbing or having to run spacers, any thoughts?

How have the Toyo AT3 been working out for you? Did you have to do a BMC to clear them?

You still liking the AT3s? Did you have to do a BMC or other trimming to fit them?

So if I wanted to go with a 35 x 12.5 tire on the factory rims, it's 100% that you'll have to do a bmc? When my 33s wear out I'm looking to do the 35s on my 2021 SR5 with the SX package 18" rims and BDS/Fox 3" suspension lift with BDS UCAs. Seems to have a lot of room with the current 33" setup, although the tires I have now are not very wide (275/70R18)

I assume the rims of the SX pkg are in the realm of +60 offset like the rest of the Toyota rims. If you are gonna put 35s on that offset you might want to consider spacers in the 1.25" range.( @Ckatz53 before the 37s) That will help with some of the clearance issues.on the skid and the steerIng components. remove the front spats and push the fender plastics forward to gain some room up front and/or add bumper shims. Then ask a good alignment shop to push your caster up as high as they can get it to help clear the body mount. But in the end I would expect that it will still be very likely that a BMC will be necessary. All of these trucks have their own personality and the clearances are pretty tight. The more you read into this the more you find everybody has to find their own combo. The good news is none of it is terribly difficult or expensive.

    Hey all,

I picked up a certified used 21' Platinum w/2.5" level kit up front in May. It needs new tires and I want to upgrade the rims while I'm at it.

I have been eyeing the Method 305's in 18x9 +25mm offset, 6" backspacing. What I am trying to determine is if these will have the extra poke I am after. Or if I should bump down to rhe 17x8.5 0 offset, 4.765 backspacing. Ideally, I would like to have the tires flush with the flares or slightly past after installing some Bushwacker flares. I read through several pages of this thread and just can't seem to find any setups with similar specs to verify how the fitment will actually look with the 18s.

Any help to wrap my head around exactly how the specs of the Methods will move the wheel in relation to the factory 20s on it now would be great, or if these won't give me the look I am after what offset/backspacing I should be looking for to get the look I am after.
