Looking to see if I can fit 305/55/20

Hey everyone,

2001 Tundra V6 Access Cab 4x4


I have been looking for wheels and I’m looking for a certain look for my Tundra.(pics attached)

I have called a few wheel and tire companies but no one can help me.

I have no one near me that can fit on wheels to see if/how they fit. I am going to someone to see what they think and can do….

I have updated my front end. I do not have a lift kit or leveling kit. New billstein 5100s gave me more height.

I am trying to avoid leveling kit. I do not want a lift kit.

I am looking to see if I can fit on 305/55/20s. I don’t mind cutting a little, but nothing major.

I will go down in size some if I can get this look.

That look will require a lift kit. No way to clear tires that wide on stock setup. Also gonna require extensive BFH work in them wheel wells. Those are 33" plus tall tires. They are also 12" wide. Both require a lift to clear and a different offset wheel and fender modifications. This is one of those scenarios when you want a thing, but don't want any of the consequences of that thing. Something will have to give.

 

I had to look on the calendar to make sure it wasn't April 1st or something.

Do your thing @Mhagha, just know that this crowd isn't into bro-dozers. Taste is what it is. Handy tip, the search function here blows ass. Use google to search what you want to know and add tundras.com into your search request. Works way better than the one top right here.

 

Not only that advice ^^ but I also see at least one of your pics is from the Custom Offsets website, which is chock full of bro-dozer setups - that is, impractical -street queens' with skinny tires, crazy deep dish/high offset wheels, weird and sometimes dangerous lifts - and normally they give info on how it was achieved, or general specs of the setup, which you can maybe model after.

If you want any of the setups you show above, and insist on not throwing lifted springs in front and AAL lift out back, you'll at need a 3" body lift for clearance, but (ideally) both lift springs/AAL + body lift to get the job done.

Any set of wheels and tires I'm seeing there are going to set you back a good $2,500 alone, not including the need for wheel spacers, potentially.

 

Last i checked, 5100s are a suspension lift.

@Mhagha best you're going to do at stock height is a 31" tire without rubbing.

Most of us with a 2-3" suspension lift (5100s, Eibach Pro truck ,dobinson, OME, etc) are running a "32-33" tire. that's as big as you can functionally get on these trucks without a BFH and a grinder, or a big 'ol drop bracket lift.

Yeah, in between fixing the stupid mistakes people make on their vehicles, like adding massively oversized wheels and tires. But thank you, we call people like you job security. I've been around since 17, not going anywhere anytime soon. Especially now that I have a new internet friend!

Literally, @Mhagha, if you were going to pick one guy on this forum to be a snowflake with, you managed to pick one with more wheel/tire/alignment/lift experience than most others. He's not kidding, he literally installs and fixes wheel/tire/suspension mistakes. Might be ribbing you while doing it, which is normal around here, but the guy is trying to save you grief. Just because you don't get the answer you want doesn't mean you have to argue and cry about it. If you took the time to research this site, you would find your answer. With stock suspension you can fit a tall 31. If you want the mall crawler look with rubber band tires, 295/40r20 or 275/50r20 will fit. That only took me 4 minutes to figure out what tire size YOU should run. My minimum charge is $80, where should I send your invoice?

Before I joined this site (or had my truck) I had a buddy with an 02 that lifted it and did a similar wheel/tire setup. Believe it was 285/55r20s. Had some rough country shock spacer in the front (junk) and then block lift in the back. The tires rubbed the UCA just a tiny bit but only sometimes, as well as the frame rail when turning which rubbed it down to bare metal. They fit but not great but don't think you can do it without lift. Maybe your slight front lift is enough but hard to say.

I don't think it looked terrible but not really my style anymore but to each their own.

I'll personally heckle you if you get less than 60 series tires.

This is the look I’m going for. I don’t mind going down in size to 19” rims. As long as I can get the look I want. And have the correct tire I want. I am not looking for a low profile tire. The picture you posted and what I posted is what I like

Problem is no one really knows about tires that can fit properly when you call online dealers. And if your lucky, maybe at a shop near..

If I would go down to 19” or maybe….18”. What would be the tire size/a that would fit to achieve what I’m going for?

19" will be harder to find tires for. 18" and 20" will be your best bet, 20" may have cheaper tire options. "That look" is gonna rub without a lift or wheel well modification. 2.5" lift up front will clear 33" tires on 18 or 20" rims IF YOU DON'T GO TOO WIDE. have to pick one, wide or tall. If wide is the goal, many mods must be made. Taller is easier than wider. Wide makes them rub the frame, the wheel well, the mud flaps, the UCAs etc. offset changes what it rubs. These trucks have small wheel wells. All of those pictures you posted are of lifted trucks with modified wheels wells and they all still rub 100%.

 

If you know,What would be the size for 18”

I’m not sure if having the TRD off-road package helps out any with space…

 

I have some 20's and 33's that are way too big to fit.

supposedly they came off a sequoia with 3" lift and spacers.

 

Original tire size for these is 30" tall tire by 9-10" wide on a 16" rim. They were pretty snug. TRD suspension is not a lift, but different shock coil combo. I have 30.5" by 10" wide tires on 16x8" rims and they would rub without the 2" lift. They rubbed with the lift and I had to trim the mudflaps.

It’s not the rim diameter, it’s the overall tire diameter. An 18” rim with a 33” tire will have 7.5” of sidewall height. A 20” rim with 33” tires will have only 6.5” of side wall height. Both will take up the same space in the wheel well.

 

What look are you going for? Are there specific wheels you have in mind? These trucks are best suited for 16-17" wheels.
