Yes, I used fuse taps at the interior fuse panel located under the passenger side dash. Ran the wires up the A pillar, under the headliner, and out of the plastic cover that surrounds the base of the mirror. Very easy installation.

This "t's" into your rearview mirror, than you plug in your usb. What does the other end that plugs into your dash cam look like? You should be able to find a usb cable that would plug into your camera.

Will this supply constant power enabling the parking mode function in dashcams? Or, will this just supply power when the truck is on or in ACC mode?

Thats correct. For 3rd Gen Tundras, there's a dashcam 5 pin power hidden in the headliner next to the overhead module (lights/SOS/etc). On trucks without the Dashcam option, that connector is still there. You use this adapter from Dongar to connect to it. I just installed mine yesterday. It isn't yet available on Amazon, but I got mine with 2 day shipping even though the site says it has a 5 day lead time

Looks good, except in the description it says that "auto dimming mirror is required" like that other part for earlier trucks. Seems like the mirror type should be irrelevant. Unless they mean this particular factory connector only happens to be present in trucks that also have the auto dimming mirror? What about those of us with the digital camera mirror?

I have the digital camera mirror on my TRD Pro. I think its just an error on their site, the type of mirror doesn't matter since this dashcam power connector exists in all models of the Tundra and has nothing to do with the mirror.

That's what I was thinking, just a cut and paste error on their part. How did you access the connector? What needs to be removed? Any delicate plastic clips?

super easy! This video has the install guide for the Toyota OEM dashcam, but the removal process for the overhead module is simple, just pull from the front and it pops right off. You don’t need to remove any other clips like he did in the video.

its only powered in ACC mode. The lights in the overhead console recieve constant 12v, so it should be relatively easy to tap that wire and use it for the Dongar cable. I don't really need the parking mode on my dashcam, so I havent dug into it

Thank you for the insight. I guess at the end of the day it’s probably not worth it to constantly drain the battery.

I really wished that some engineer somewhere who owns a tundra comes up with a way to hack into the tundras cameras and invent a “Sentry Mode” like mod.

Haha I could probably take a look at that too. I'm an engineer at Toyota and just got my Tundra delivered this weekend. I worked pretty closely with the Tundra design team over the last few years

I have a Viofo A129 Pro duo dashcam in my Tacoma that I plan to swap over. It has the sentry mode but I don't use it because of battery drainage issues... although I believe it has a low battery cut off to keep from killing it totally. You can buy add-on battery packs that run the cam and recharge themselves whilst driving that will extend how long you can use this mode without draining the truck's battery. But I decided it just wasn't worth the hassle.

I have captured some very interesting stuff out there in the wild. For your viewing pleasure, these from the last year and a half, or so, that I have had this particular cam. The last two named BlueCamaro, you need to watch the full rear clip first to see where this idiot comes from, then the short front clip to show where he goes. The light had been full red for maybe 7 seconds. You can tell when it changed in the rear clip as I began to slow down.

There is a text box when you order from Dongar, you can request it to be wired "hot all the time" or "Switched"... I started with one that was hot all the time, then replaced it with a switched one...

I never got this text box when ordering! glad it came with the switched one by default, but if its that easy for them to swap around, I wonder if its just changing the pinning on the adapter. It seems perfectly reasonable to have one of those 5 pins be live all the time

It is how it is pinned, you can swap two wires, and make it change from switched to hot all the time... I don't have the details, and didn't want to mess with it so thats why I just ordered a 2nd one... quick EASY install.... In one of the early dash cam threads it has specific wiring / Pin details...

My Viofo cam harness wants both switched and unswitched 12v. Not sure why these Dongar adapters can't provide both to the connection to the cam harness, if they both exist in the connector in the Tundra ceiling? In this case I am not sure if it needs both to be live if you don't care about parked security mode.

Hello all! My dongar adapter is on its' way. I need to pick up a USB A --> USBc cord, how long did you guys go with? I feel like 3ft is too long but 6in is too short... 1.5ft long enough?

My new dashcam got waylaid in FedEx due to the ice storm so I haven't installed it yet. Maybe next week if it comes. I am not quite sure what I will need in the way of cables yet. On my Tacoma I placed the cam on the driver's side of the rear view mirror and that is what I am planning for this one so 6" might be enough.

I’m thinking just picking up both 6” and 1.5ft to be on the safe side…

Yup, turns out my cam has a USB-c input, so I need one of those cables, too. I just ordered one from B&H Photo. Looking at the arrangement it didn't look like 6" was going to be enough so I got the 18 incher. Any extra can just be rolled up or hidden in the headliner.

I am also not sure which Dongar I got, but I am guessing "Variant 1" since that is the default on their order page. Does anyone know if that is the ACC or constant +12 V version? Their web page doesn't say.

I don't remember the text box when I ordered, either, but when I went back to look the choices are "Variant 1" and "Variant 2". Any idea which is ACC and which is +12 constant?

I reached out to them last week and was informed that it's ACC only and is not constant. They were pretty insistent on the reply stating that they highly recommend against constant draw to avoid draining the battery.

If you want constant power, your best bet is to go with the hardwire kit with the battery protection shutoff. Or, there appears to be a battery kit where you can run the cord along your head liner and down the A-pilar, then to a location of your choosing to hide the battery. I can track down the kit if you're interested. LMK.
