That's correct, only 2 wires are needed, the picture where it shows three, one is dead-ended. For infomation purposes, the three wire in picture shows black as ground, white as switched with ignition, and red as alwasy on. You only need black and one of the others.

The cost on toyota website for wires and connector is MSRP, but should be a few dollars cheaper at your local dealer.

What so special about the wires to justify $20 each?? What gauge is the wire?

Nothing special about the wires, it's Toyota's mark up. You can get them on eBay, although smaller gauge, for a lot less and you only need 2.

some dash cam require all 3 wires, such as some blackvue models, which require battery, accessory, and ground

Thank you. Do you know what gauge the ones you used were? I have a bunch of tinned copper wire from my boat installs that might work depending on the gauge.

My SR5 defiantly doesn't have an auto dimming mirror. Are the power connections still up there?

Did you use a fuse in this DIY dongle? If so, what amperage and on which wire did you place it? Thanks!

Sorry man, I am not, but, if you order the one above your post from Dongar, you can change the pins from 'switched' to "always on".
It's the one listed as 'optionalconnectortoyota"

Great thread and I appreciate the R&D from this group.

I have a 22 Pro and I’d like to install my Thinkware and hoping I can buy a harness to use the available plug in the headliner. I’d like to take advantage of the switched power to activate parking mode.

Can anyone help point me to the right harness?

Got mine Dongar and Garmin Dash cam in and installed. Super easy! I only pulled the console, didn't need to do anything else. Took about 10 mins to do with half the time doing wire management lol

Sooo....how do I re-pin the Dongar adapter for "always on?" I assume I would need like a re-pin toolkit, poke the hole and move the pin over 1 spot?

I have the same Garmin Dashcam Mini 2, but I opted for the Costant Power Cable from Garmin that comes with a second USB connection so I can add a second camera that faces rearwards. The only issue is that you have to use your OBD-II port for the Garmin cable.

I imagine it can be done without a re-pin toolkit. Just splice into the always on wire that runs to the secondary 5-pin connector in the adapter. Just not sure which of those wires is the always on one.

There may be a locking clip you will have to pop up not necessarily off before you re-pin it. Depends on the connector.

Here is a look at the end of the connector for reference. Black - Ground, White - Ignition/switched, Red - always on

Well…I changed the pin as suggested and got no power. I put it back to original and it works so I don’t know….

To anyone using Maharisc’s or Dongars USB adapter in the headliner, does it cut power while using auto start/stop? My dash cam restarts when the engine restarts.

my camera doesnt shut off during auto start/stop and Im using Maharsic's harness setup for always on. Camera does have a built in battery, so that might help though.

I'm working on something similar to this. I have a 2020, so I don't have that 5 pin harness above the console. I do have a 14 pin connector that bring power to the SOS button and the overhead lights. I'm struggling to find the male and female connectors to make a plug and play harness to tap into this. Any help?

Feel free to tell me to just start a new thread, but what causes folks to go 3rd party vs oem dashcam? Just video quality? Assume they all record in a loop on removable media?

As far as I know, toyota doesn't make an OEM dashcam for a 2020 Tundra. That started with the 22.
