Plug in the numbers: Look at the original tire size you want to compare. Open a new tab or browser window. Input the new tire size. Compare the height/width/diameter of both.

Anything much wider and/or much taller, you're liable to rub.

 

It’s 2.4 inches bigger in diameter, 1.4 inches wider, and bigger in circum, but has less revs/mile, y’all tell me what y’all think, stock is 245:70/16

 

What's the overall diameter? @bmf4069 is access cab, and running 255/85R16 at 32.8" and I haven't heard him complain about excess rubbing.

YSK it's unwise to compare your access cab to double cab, or take advice from double cabs. The suspension geometry of RC/AC trucks is about the same, DC trucks are more like Sequoia. It makes bmf is a great comparison for you, same cab, same 16" tire size, same general details. You may already know this, if so, ignore me.

Which kit did you choose to level the front, and are you running anything for lift out rear (blocks or otherwise)?

The one thing that won't be apples-to-apples with bmf's setup is potentially the backspace on the newer T4R wheels you got. But generally speaking, if you run the numbers on the tire bmf is running (I just posted the numbers up there ^^) and yours comes back smaller in all dimensions, the only thing that may bite you in the ass is him having potentially ~1.5" more lift in front and rear over your setup.

I'm not going to put my rep on the line by saying "won't rub!" I'm not familiar enough with OEM T4R wheels in 16" size (I didn't even know you could get those in 16s), and w/o having backspace info on the wheels to compare that makes it tough. I do find it helpful knowing someone with the same cab type, wheel diameter, etc. as you has something you can at least vaguely compare to, though.

 

I have a supreme suspensions 2 inch level for the front, I would’ve bought some blocks but at the time didn’t think about it, and the only problem is I’m trying to run 20x7 4 runner reps but since the rim is so skinny I’m limited to what tire sizes I can put on, the most popular size aftermarket wise for these rims is the 275/55/r20, but that’s probably the biggest I want to go without adding more lift to it

I'm the wrong guy to ask about updating from 16s to 20s. I think 20" wheels on these trucks looks like ass, but trying to figure out all the variables in that ... I don't want to be responsible for wasting your money. I'd recommend hitting the wheel & tire subforum on here.

Well first off that would make sense, only problem is I’m bought the rims just trynna find a tire size that should be good, some people go with that size of tires and a level and say it rubs only backwards at full lock, I mean I’m not running that big of tires cause it’s only a 2 inch level, just making sure they will fit, and thx for your help and time

 

I'd definitely hit the wheel/tire forum and see what they can tell you. Someone'll probably link you up with this thread, but hopefully have good advice for you also. I just don't want to tell you something you take to heart and find yourself buying tires that you end up needing to replace.

 

Yeah I mean allot of people with A level and that same tire size say it don’t rub, and if it does it should be minor, but one last question, is there a difference with tire cleanerance/fitment between a sr5 and a limited model?

 

Those are just trim packages, not technically different models. Those packages came with different OEM wheel options, but suspension-wise, I don't think you're going to find a difference. The big differences in clearance seem to be more tied to cab type than anything.

I also have 1.5" spacers. It has a slight rub turning left and going through a bump, but only cause my caster isn't set right. I'm betting those 275s would rub w/o spacers.

 

What would they rub on, the upper control arm, or the frame or what?

 

Mine rubs on the inner fender on the back. With wider tires w/o spacers I could see it rubbing the frame. Pinch weld might be ok.

 

What about a 285/50/r20, would that rub any worse than the 275/55/r20? I’m not worried about it rubbing if it’s on full lock and I can trim whatever it is rubbing, I just don’t want it rubbing on a control arm or the frame

 

A 285/50r20 is 11.5" wide and recommends an 8-10" wide wheel. The 20x7's are too narrow.

 

Huh that’s weird but thank you for letting me know, a 4 runner forum listed that size as a tire you could put on it, but off the top of your head is there any 265’s for the 20’s?

 

New to the forum, also interested in the answers to this for my 20" Enkei Wheels on my XSP. Need new tires. Current set is 295/45/r20 and as others have mentioned they don't look good.
