Maybe for rock crawling. But I for sure don't need the kickout. This truck won't be rock crawling, and no tight forested trails around here (generally speaking), and i dont need a big ole step either. Just want a good rocker protector for that "just in case". I've had other trucks with sliders. These all stick out way too far for what I need.

Honestly, if I could get the white knuckle or brute force without the kickout, I'd prob just do it and be done. But that kickout is a big fat no from me.

I guess I'll start looking for a local fabricator that could just do custom.

I'm doing a set of non kickout bolt ONS for the crewmax now. With no kickout they can be angled a good bit more than normal. The first gens frame cause the legs to be real tight to the pinch weld which makes the angle less than my usual standard angle on sliders.

First Gen technically didn't use the nomenclature "Crewmax"... that came about with the 2nd Gen. So just want to make sure --you're talking about the First Gen DoubleCab still here? Cause if you are, consider me very interested, and let's see some pics. :)

I haven't done them for the 1st gen access/double cab yet only the 4 door quadcab/crewmax etc. However if you're local to SC and can drop it off for a few hours I can test the CM/DC plates and see if they'll work on the AC

Here's the pic I took as he was pulling away yesterday.

Looks great on that Crewmax. Something like that would be great.

As for dropping by.... wish I could... but I'm in Southern Utah.

That is a 1st gen double cab. There’s no quad cab or crew max 1st gen. Regular cab, access cab with half doors and the double cab with 4 full doors.

Thanks for the clarification, I knew they weren't technically called the same thing... but Same thing in my mind, as long as no other cab configuration has 4 full doors I consider it a crewmax. The half door is access cab which is what my Tacoma is. They also only came.in "double cab" form as the largest option.

I ship, just need an AC to test it on. I'll come across one eventually local though. Untill then weld on is best I got for the single and AC

Haha. I feel like all this different cab talk is mixing up the convo a little... cause I've got a DC... A 1st Gen DoubleCab.

But ya, if you make a non-kickout version for it, I'm very interested. And I'd take weld on too. I can have them put on here easy enough.

Agreed, I've never ran into a situation where I wish I didn't have it but I have been making more standards recently

Before I had them, I definitely watched my rear tire get sucked into a rock, and scraped the rim all kinds(it’s a truck who cares)
I’ve now watched my kick outs bump me away from many obstacles that I thought I had enough clearance around. And they are nice to stand on it and the tire to do stuff ontop of the camper shell.

I also really enjoy just using them to my advantage when not able to see the other side of the truck if I don't have a passenger, Knowing they're there I can hug things tighter on my side and do exactly as you said and kick the ass end away from whatever it is

I swear I read (maybe in this thread, maybe in the Lunch thread) some folks don't want the kick-out either for looks, shin-whackability, or what. Those are the two reasons that are ringing in my failing memory.

I think it's mostly looks. Some people like the simple high and tight sliders. I can understand that.

Personally, I'm really happy with my White Knuckle sliders. They were expensive but there are so few options for our trucks it's hard to complain. I'm on the shorter side so being able to use them to access the roof is nice.

I don't think they stick out too far.

I’ve built a couple sets. Definitely down to build some for @dirtnsmores

Haven’t done any for a 1st gen Double cab. Only the AC

But after a couple measurements should be very similar
