Ok, I’ve finally had it with the piece of crap factory head unit in my ‘21 Crewmax. I’ve tried to be patient with it, even added a Bluetooth CarPlay unit, but the honeymoon is over. I’ve read that the unit is an AC Delco unit. WTH was Toyota thinking putting that inferior POC in an otherwise perfect truck?
Now, I’m a person that is slow to change, and I love listening to CD’s in my vehicles. I will be replacing the factory unit with a head unit that can play CD’s and have Apple CarPlay capability, (I really am spoiled using Siri for calls).
Units I desire are now few and far between. I’ve got a Pioneer head unit in my FJ Cruiser, and though it does not have CarPlay, I am in heaven when I can play one of the several thousand CD’s from my collection.
I’ve got the Pioneer AVH-3500NEX zeroed in as the unit from BestBuy that can fit in the Tundra. Anyone out there have any experience with it or recommendations?
    Thanks in advance!

I go the Kenwood DMX1057 (I think that's what it is) absolutely love it. Great wireless CarPlay, navigation looks great. Sirius XM works great. You won't have a CD Player tho. Time to leave the CDs behind!

Thanks. I’ve been eyeing the Kenwood heads.

Here are some photos below with the Kenwood. I didn't install it, a pro shop did it in about a day. I looked at YouTube videos of how to install, decided its above my pay grade or the time I want to spend. It is a pretty clean install, and looks pretty much OEM to me. A million times better than stock.

Thanks for sharing. Me like. If you're playing music can you control volume with the knob?

    I feel your pain.

    I got the Pioneer 8600NEX.

If you want to you can read through my installation thread.

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/new...600nex-into-a-2018-sr5-entune-non-jbl.100157/

I gave up on CDs, and now just use iTunes.

However, consider getting a CD changer that you can mount anywhere and then load that up with discs. You should be able to use a good head unit to control that. Heck you might be able to do it with one of these Pioneers.

Good luck. You will LOVE having better sound, CarPlay, and navigation.

Yes, that's one of the features many people like about this unit.

It's between these two for me. Found this, and I'm leaning towards the Kenwood. Going to be awhile before I can fork out the money though.

Yeah, it's a pricey upgrade, especially including labor if you don't install yourself and you add some upgraded speakers (if you're into that). I have the Platinum with JBL and upgraded speakers years ago when I had the stock head unit. This Kenwood really brought everything to life, and the EQ functions are apparently really good (I'm no expert). All in all, it is a really useful nice upgrade.

Had some audiofile specific features, but 98% the same. They were priced exactly the same, so they were very hard to get. When i was shopping it was impossible to find the 1057.

If i had a choice to pick between the two for the same price i'd take the 57, but with my setup (3 way active crossover from a 10ch Helix DSP) the 1037 has been just fine.

I hear ya on the radio. I have several mods I would like to do but the radio is my priority right now. I’m sold on Kenwood but my problem is installation. It seems professional installation is difficult to find. Do you plan on installing it yourself?

I'll definitely be doing my installs. I'm a DIY kind of guy and vehicles have been a hobby of mine for some time. I think it's a job most people with some time and patience can take on, especially with install videos on YouTube to guide you through the process. Just make sure that you use the most secure method of wire connections your skillset allows (also plenty of videos on this specifically). Mine will be soldered and shrink wrapped, but you could get away with less.

As I mentioned, I will do my install. My plan is to do the head unit first, then speakers as needed. Music is life to me (well a good portion of it anyways...haha).

Those are really nice head units. Wish there was a budget option for us smaller wallet people.

    Boisefly did get this right.
I posted a quick review awhile ago about the Boss ACP10. It may not be for the audiophiles in this group but a nice, inexpensive option for those looking to add Apple Car Play with a much larger screen. Sounds much better than the stock head unit.
There is (or at least was a 5 year warranty was through Crutchfield) and not to step on Boisefly's toes as a previous post he made is what sent me down the Boss ACP10 road.
