The hard roll up, isn't that the X4 or X4s? If you like the hard roll up, you should check out the Truxedo Sentry CT. No leaks, fits well.

Evening, everyone. This thread has been great, and I've overall been pretty happy with the TruXedo Pro X15 I got, but coming from a Leer 100 XQ cap on my '19, one thing I'm still getting used to is the dampness in the covered bed with a tonneau vs. a hard cap on damp/dewy mornings. This tonneau seals well from rain, so it's not a matter of leaking necessarily.

What's your take on the bed not being as damp in the mornings with a different tonneau than a roll-up style like the Pro X15? Or is it tough to achieve the drier condition overall with the light weight of a tonneau vs the hard cap? Thanks!

Just a FYI that may help, I have the Retrax Pro Mx and had more leaking than I was happy with the first week or so. I guess the seals and what not just need to settle in because it remains quite dry now, minus a few drops at the tailgate, even through high pressure washes.

I had this on my 2013 Tundra. Very little leakage even in heavy rain. The issue I had with it was that when it went below freezing the aluminum would warp and the cover would not close unless I pressed down on the cover. At first it looked like someone tried to pry the cover open but when the temp went up to the 40s it went back to normal operation. For this reason I went with the RetraxPro XR for my 2023. Hopefully it isn’t an issue but for the extra $600 I get a lifetime warranty instead of just 1 year.

I have the retraxpro xr as well. I've had it installed for about 2 weeks now and it leaks a little bit on the sides above the rear wheel wells. Are you having any leakage as well?

I haven't installed the Pro yet. Still on its way. BTW, did you have to drill out the drain holes to make the tubes fit? The ones in the bed are super tiny.

I did.....a dumb mistake I made was thinking I'd drill from the bottom up to ensure in wasn't drilling into anything. I was a damn itchy mess for about a day with that ground fiberglass on me, lol. I'm an idiot, now you can avoid that mistake LOL.

On my 2013, there were drain holes that you just popped out. Like this

I wonder why they didn't add those to the newer gen even with the composite.

I don't think so. If they are there, they are so covered I didn't see them.

I had the same experience, less leaking after the first few weeks. Pretty happy with it now.

Hoping you guys can help me find a bed cover that fits my needs. I like having a bed cover during the winter to keep the snow out of the bed. However, for the rest of the year I like to have an open bed for hauling stuff or for my dog. On my last truck (3rd gen Tacoma) I had the factory trifold hard cover, which sat on top of the bed rail and didn’t require additional rails to be installed, making it very easy and fast to completely remove.

Most of the covers I see on the market for my new tundra seem to require installing rails that take up bed space when the cover is retracted. I don’t care so much about a low profile look. Are there any trifold, quadfold, or hard roll up covers that don’t require the installation of additional rails?

I can’t speak for others but the MX4 mounts with the existing rails. Real truck site has a video showing installation on a new Tundra

I opted to drill on the side of the bed so that I can still have the factory drain holes for when I wanna wash the bed. Otherwise, the water would just sit there for days. Pardon the puddle of water around the front passenger side. I didn't know until later on that the o-ring washer came off of the drain grommet prior to installing it. Luckily, I found it under my bed mat lol.

BTW, I drilled the holes 2" from the bottom.

Replacing my Toyota OEM tonneau with a Leer shell today. I thought I would like the tonneau better than the cover I had on my 2012, but the need to carry larger items that needed weather protection outweighed the desire for a little less weight. The tonneau was generally water tight except in really hard rain, but couldn’t keep dust out around the tailgate no matter how much I tried to seal it. I did manage to keep it from getting all the way to the front of the bed.

Nice! That is where the drain holes were located in my 2013 so it makes sense to put them there.

Thx. I was in an airport and could not attach the link. It seems to be a straight forward install.

That’s funny, I was in an airport too, lol. I’m looking for a cover that doesn’t require side rails at all.

Weary travelers unite! Actually I think the MX4 can be mounted either way.

LOMAX professional series tonneau cover. Super easy to install and seems nice so far. Easy to take on and off too.

I had the Retrax Pro XR installed and I'm wondering if the exterior tailgate release along the left tail light should work? I hear it release but it doesn't deploy.

When I installed my OEM cover I had to be sure it was far enough forward that the last panel’s down force on the top of tailgate didn’t hold it closed even when it was unlatched.

Just wipe a light coat of silicone spray on the tailgate seal and it works great.
