Do you have more info on your "home made" fix, I'd be really curious to see what you used for your rack.

Can report that the Lomax has remained water tight through car washes and a few rainstorms. Extemely happy with it.

i used some metal plates I found at the local Ace Hardware, drilled holes and cut them in half, you need 5 for each side. So far so good, no issues with the mod.

I think you can see how I dropped the hardware down from the image. Screwed the plate in where the rail was originally located, dropping the mounting point under the hardware clamps used to hold the MX4 and rack combo to the truck (3 on each side). The key was using low profile carriage bolts to attached the MX4 hardware I wasn't able to use as intended. The carriage bolts allow you to tighten down the nut without the bolt turning. Then mount the rail like you would on a "normal" cover install (w/out the rack). BAK may make some sort of relocation brackets but I was needing to get it done... Hope that helps.

Posted this on "What have you done today...", but putting it here also for those that are interested in hard tops.

Put on my new Undercover Elite hard cover yesterday. With the winters we have in the midwest, I could not see having full functionality of a top that rolls or folds up. The ice and snow would just get in the way. Rained (and snowed) after installation and there was no water intrusion. There is a nice gasket running all the way around the cover. I put it on myself, using rope suspended from my garage door...drove under it and set it down right on top. The final adjustment dragged on as I tried to get it just right for the tailgate elevation. I have to press each corner down to engage the latches on either side, but this is due to the stiff gasket. I'm sure it will flatten out over time. I purchased the ABS version which is black and unpainted. Looks good sitting on a black truck. Got a deal through Santana at RealTruck. The only issue, with the delivery process, was the first one arrived beat all to hell. Every side and every seam of the box was busted. I took pictures and then refused delivery. I called RealTruck immediately and sent the pictures after they opened a case. I new one was ordered the next day. When it arrived, the box was in better shape but one of the ends was mangled pretty well. I looked inside to make sure there was no damage and took the chance that the rest of the cover was in solid shape. I unboxed it and performed a full inspection...and I was good to go. The top supposedly supports 500 lbs. The second order added another week of wait time. Took it out for a test drive and it seems quiter in the cabin.

    Went with the Backflip MX4

Very happy so far, seems to be a nice upgrade from the Extang I had on my Tacoma. The flush fit and ability to open it up more than 1/3 is a huge plus. Big test for me will be when it rains.

Was just going to say I got an email with up to $400 off ... was leaning that way myself but I like the lower profile looks of the MX4... watching to see what kind of Black Friday sales are going on... Still annoyed a missed a local dealer selling the factory covers for $850 .... havent been able to find a deal like that since... ugh... just being patient... (BTW if anyone knows of any great sales, let me know! ) =)

    Lots of stuff!
The HD is a brute. I went with the SE on the Tundra but had an HD on my Ridgeline. I like that you can add whatever you like to it and it works. I attached a TracRac to the SE for the Kayaks.

I have been looking at that Rough Country Toneau cover however, does anyone know if this is offered in a 6.5 bed? I can't seem to find it but maybe I am missing something.

Excellent to hear I am installing one next week. Did you get the removable one or the one that folds up against the cab?

Update, now on my 3rd tonneau cover.

1st: Rough Country soft roll up.
Pros: Fit great. Stayed Dry. Only +/- $300.
Cons: Not secure. Velcro sides. Soft vinyl top.

    2nd: BakFlip Revolver MX4.
Pros: Looked great. Easy operation. Decent security.
Cons: Did not fit. Leaked on all 4 corners. The rails are just too short. Bakflip not very helpful. Recommended super glue and shims.

    3rd: WeatherTech alloy tri fold.
Pros: Fits great. Bone Dry. Super easy removal. Decent security.
Cons: Doesn't look as good as the Revolver.

Also... Just saw today. The Softopper has a product for the 2022 Tundra now.

    https://softopper.com/products/softopper-truck-bed-cap-toyota-2022-tundra-for-5-6-ft-bed/

What is the over / under that I order my 4th bad cover this week?!!

Sad to hear that the MX4 did not fit properly. There is one sitting in my garage waiting for my truck arrival. That would suck, especially if they won't refund. I was going to go with the Weathertech but went with the BakFlip instead. Maybe wish I had gone with Weathertech. Should know in another three weeks.

i have the mx4 on my platinum 5.5 bed and it stays dry in the bed. ran it through a touchless car wash last week and there was a t8ny bit of water that got in by the tailgate corners but that is more of a tailgate problem than an mx4 problem i think.

and if i find myself in a situation where i have water coming at the tailgate as hard as it does in a touchless car wash i have bigger problems to deal with than a few drops of water in the bed. ;)

Just installed the MX4 and I like it but looks like it’ll leak nicely at the tailgate. Like the rails aren’t long enough as @Carolina Peej has stated. Not cool.

Is the Toyota brand tonneau cover any good ? The truck I put a deposit on comes with it and can’t take it off . I’d assume at that price is the best lol . Looking for pics of it so I can daydream about it all

Mine was the Bakflip Revolver MX4, the roll up hard cover. Not sure about the tri-fold MX4, but the Revolver just didn't fit.

My mx4 is the trifold. When I’m not under the weather, I plan on messing with the rails to see if I can make it any better. If not, I may have to send back. Lol

    I don't remember seeing a 6.5 option.
I have the 5.5 and it works great for me.

It’s similar to the MX4 but Toyota branded….if not sealed properly at the bed corner’s with the caulk or parked nose down (like on hills) then it may have small leaks in those corners but quite honestly I don’t expect bone dry…especially here in the PNW where we get a good amount of rain/precipitation.

my driveway is a hill and mine stays relatively dry (very small leaks) after days of rain so I am happy.
