If I had a do over on the silver truck, I'd have went with solo over the napa arms I put on. Solo has poly, yes? Plus improved caster?

 

Obviously, discretion is advised. It won't apply to a simple tool like a maul. YMMV (your mileage/morals may vary). Not saying I would do it, just ... saying.

1. You have a DC but I'll be verbose in case others find this later. If you've got an Access Cab or Regular Cab truck, your truck will likely squat an inch or so to the rear running 2885, or worse if you're also 2WD, worse still if 2WD and V6 - if you're reading this and it applies to you, you'll need to make a choice, either go with 2884 instead or you'll need to lift the rear, so consider buying Icon or Toytech or whatever brand you prefer AAL, since lifting or dropping vehicles with blocks is not ideal. If your Double Cab, but you're 2WD, you'll probably have a little squat also, but DC/4WD with that setup should settle to just about level. Obviously, this entire chunk of text will vary if you have (or intend) to add a camper, armor, or other added weight. You didn't list your drivetrain, or whether you have and/or will add extra weight front and back, so ... take it or leave it.

2. Save your hard earned dollars. This Eibach Pro 5.25485K kit is just SPC UCAs resold by Eibach, but 30% cheaper. Mevotech also resells, but I'm not sure if bushings are same. Save yourself $300 buying Eibach's. Or save yourself $500 buying Mevotech and hope the bushings are the same. 1stGenOffroad may be able to get them for you. I'm not sure if Josh knows this info already or not.

3. Go with OEM LCA so you're only doing this once, hopefully the last point will save enough to offset some of the cost. The OEM already lasted you this long. Don't you want to pay a little more to get there? It's extra insurance and should be added longevity. You get what you pay for.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I should of mentioned parts are already bought and sitting in my garage and yup V8 4x4. Undercover tonneau most the time with a few sandbags in the winter is my payload. An occasional trip for mulch or what ever.

Shifty you make a good point about the OEM lower arms. Im gonna return the Moog. Pony up for OEM.

 

Supposedly if you use the right lubricant, they should stay quiet

 

Not mine, zerk tapped and greased with Energy Suspension #5 super tacky grease. I now have zerks everywhere there is poly. I'll sneak up on you.

 

I will say Solo is full of shit with the "use copper anti-seize and we don't have zerks installed because it's so good". Everywhere I used to have copper anti-sieze that met real dust turned to abrasive mud. Scored the inner bolt (steel) sleeves on my bushings and nothing should be getting in there...

 

Bolt worked well on the maul once I found a good size. It was actually stainless. Hah. Maul mods.

Gotta figure out a plan for seasoning. It’s a big pile.

 

I’ve always found that loose piling is best for seasoning, not a nice tight stack, you want some airflow. I usually leave it in a big messy unstacked heap, but you could loosely stack it too, just not too tight.
It’s some hardwood right? Might be ready next year, hardwood takes a while.

My OCD and the amount of rain we get here are pushing towards some sort of organized stacking.

The tree was a honey locust. Sounds like it should be seasoned 1-2 years. We are burning a sister tree which apparently fell 2 years ago in an ice storm based on what the neighbors tell us. The top layer is good but the stuff at the bottom does not want to burn. Definitely needs something better than a stack under the deck.

Yeah, couple years is probably better if you can, been a while since I’ve had anything other than soft wood to deal with. If there’s space and airflow it can dry in a stack and look more organized

 

I’m debating between custom woodshed vs metal racks which would be more exposed but might fit under the deck. Plan to demo said deck at some point. Hmmm

 

There's your answer, I think. If you plan to demo the deck, and you can afford to build a shed today, go with the shed.

If not, I see plenty of Chinese companies on scAmazon selling 3'x5' sheds in the low $100s range. One unit is under $100 from "Cover-it". I found them hunting for "metal shed" on there. Could be a good interim solution.

if going metal for under deck. We would for sure rebuild a deck post demo so they wouldn't be wasted, but getting the ground level under a low overhang will be a PIA and storing wood close to the house is also not ideal. But it's the most protected spot without significant effort.

I want a storage shed (for my excessive wheels/tires as well as garden tools and rarely used stuff) which could potentially be a combo storage/firewood shed but I'm bracing for impact on a guy bidding the work, I suspect it'll be a painful price tag I won't want to pay.

 

My parents ended up grabbing me a rack off scAmazon for some annual-event gift (birthday?), it's basically the far left one in the 2nd pic below. Then I bought this cover for it. They sell both in 8ft versions if more space is required. I don't normally like buying shitware like this, but lumber was 3x as much, no racks made domestically, everyone selling in the US was sourcing from China... the rack has held up for 3 years now, and the cover for 2.5, which is more than I expected. Dad's got two of their 8 footers and one 4 footer.

Looks like the sequoia is suffering from the wiper cowl leak. Figure it would show itself sooner or later. Had it on the to do list at some point after having to do my tundra. Just havent got around to it. Just took priority now

 

I bought it used from AL_TUNDY last November for $700. Been sitting in my garage and needs a new owner.

 

If you need any info, gimme a shout. Been there. Done that. You'll want to have a couple of extra fasteners on hand for the cowl (and not the ones you need to reseal/replace). Can point you to part #s if you need it.

Tundras done for a bit. New frame for the 1998 will be here this week (last one Toyota had in stock) just waiting on the shocks to show up before that frame swap

 

Man. I’ve got several big truck projects that need doing, but that ‘year and a half we spent in Tahiti’ when we all got Covid this year, requires I abstain from most of my vices for the remainder of the year. I plan to live vicariously through you guys (and save up to splurge next summer when it’s too hot to wheel: all the stuff I have to pay others to do).
